As noted in other reviews, weather sealing is mediocre due to poor design (the round top of the boot needs to seal over a triangular slider). Action deteriorates quickly in the wet, and requires constant disassembly and re-greasing. But the final straw was the seatpost bending about 10 degrees to the rear without any major crashes. So I used some "stretch" electrical tape. (not regular electrical tape) Look for it at the hardware store. It stretches like a rubber band but sticks to it's self. Anyway I sealed it up around the top. I also attached a small tube about a 1/2 inch long in front of the bellow at the bottom for air intake, due to the boot sucking in.

The post performs flawlessley throughout the summer untill it starts to rain. The problem with my post being the boot tension was too loose meaning after the first couple of hits it would drop down on the outer tube exposing the facets on its internal shaft which runs through the rows of needle bearings to the trail crude."Hey presto" one seized post.I dismantled it to find a very simplistic internal shaft running on a single elastomer.Certainly not rocket science and consequently no justification for its over-inflated price tag.That said and done I throughly cleaned and lubed the bearings and reassembled the post.Now the REALLY technical bit.I installed one simple zip tie at the base of the boot which in-turn keeps the boot up against the bottom of the seat clamp resulting in virtually no crap entering the bearings at all.As anyone who kwows anything about HEADHOCK products will be aware, it is absolutely priority #1 to keep the boot secured and in good condition over this bearing system.It would also help a lot of people out there if they were to used a funny little thing called "COMMON SENSE".Not a brilliant post but certainly better than it has been portrayed as here.

I swapped out the heavy elastomer for an old judy Type II set up (MCU/Spring) and it is not only lighter, but performs even better.
And guess what? no side to side play! the post and the post head is one piece! What a novel idea!
FELLOW CYCLISTS, IF YOU HAVE A CODA SUS-POST 99 OR OLDER, RETURN THEM TO AN ATHORIZE CANNONDALE SHOP AND COMPLAIN ABOUT IT. THE C-REP WILL MOST LIKELY OFFER TO TRADE UP FOR THE 2000 MODEL. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT, UNLESS YOU DON'T WANT TO SPEND ANY MORE MONEY TOWARDS CANNONDALE.

The design is different with the bearings and all, but the performance is just as bad as the old ones. Mine suffered from stiction and seemed to rebound when it wanted to. I tried it for about 3 months and finally gave up and sold the thing. I bought a USE xcr (Way lighter and much better) I chose it over the Rock Shox because it was a tad lighter but BOTH the the USE and the Rock Shox are better! If you don't race and aren't concerned about weight, buy which ever is cheaper between the USE and Rock Shox because they both perform very well. Whatever you do, DON'T BUY the CODA! I had heard that this year's Coda's were supposed to be improved over previous years, but they're not! Mine developed side -to side- play very early on and just quit working on me after a few months! I brought it back to the shop numerous times and finally I was given the option of getting a new Coda for 50% off or a $35 store credit on another brand. I chose the store credit towards another brand and I bought the Rock Shox. It's better built, lighter, and soaks up everything. Trust me,now or trust me later, it's your money and you've been warned. Don't pay attention to those wearing their Cannondale glasses while reviewing this product because they're fools. The Coda post is bad! I bought a new '99 model straight out of the box for 0nly $50 and it was still a big PILE! Way too much stiction and rebound doesn't work. I thought I bought a dud, so I exchanged it for another one. This PILE was EVEN WORSE!!! I'd hit a bump and it would bottom out, or the post would STAY compressed or POGO no matter how I adjusted it. I weigh 165lbs. so weight wasn't the probblem. POOR design and quality was. STAY AWAY, even at $50 bucks it wasn't worth it. I brought it back and exchanged it for a Rock Shox. ( WAY BETTER) I was HAPPY to pay the additional $50 for the Rock Shox post. If you're in the market for a teliscopic post go Rock Shox Or some other brand, but STAY AWAY from this Coda Garbage! Silky smooth travel, and helped with the ruts and roots of the Pac. NW trails. Kind of a heavy rider 175lbs, so wanted something to soak up the bumps, and i'm completely satisfied. Does not happen with a rigid post.
Took the bike on an epic ride recently (70klm trip) off road and we got caught in the rain. Within half-hour the post had stopped working all together. Muddy water had seeped down through the boot cover and siezed the needle bearings. This gave me the excuse not to use it ever again!
