Favorite Trail:24 Hours in the Old Pueblo Race Track
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $650.00
    Purchased At:Sun N' Spokes
Strengths:Nice and rigid frame, good tires, good wheels.
    Weaknesses:Crankset is not very strong.
    Similar Products Used:Kona Unit 2-9
Bike Setup:Reba Race Forks, Shimano clipless pedals, and Sette bar ends, but everything else stock.
Bottom Line:I'm not a very big person, I only way about 130 with my gear, but I was just going and broke two bolts, snapped the chainring in half, and bent the arms the chainring are bolted to and didn't even hit a rock going up a hill halfway through the ride and had to walk the whole way . Now i'm going to get the FSA single speed crankset. But love the bike other than that.

    Favorite Trail:canal trails
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $700.00
    Purchased At:fast bicycle, san jose
Strengths:the frame!!! rigid and lite w/ enough flex to dampen the ouchies
Weaknesses:the crank set is just ok, bb is just ok, headset is garbage, but what was i expecting from a $700 dollar bike
    Similar Products Used:specialized and giant
Bike Setup:stock except for easton monkeylite xc carbon rizer bars
Bottom Line:this is a great bike for the money and totally upgradable. If you didnt want to have to upgrade this bike then you should have just bought the frame and components seperately but then youd end up spending a fortune counting grams. In summary, it gets you on the road with a pretty good bike at a pretty great price. After investing a little money time and tlc you will have an awesome performer with a light and comfortable frame!

    Date Reviewed: April 2, 2007
    Favorite Trail:Plains of Abrahams
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Purchased At:1500
Strengths:Loosk Nice. Rides Nice. It is nice. The fit is awesome, the fork is a dream and I love the BB7 brakes.
Weaknesses:Weight of frame. It is no Easton Ultralite, but it is steel, and it's a super-deal.
Bike Setup:RockShox Reba Team / FSA Carbon / Truvatic Stylo / Avid BB7 / Shimano LX Wheelset
Bottom Line:The guys at Revolutions Cyles here in Seattle were the best to work with. I looked at A LOT of stock SS bikes. The Redline was certainly the best deal. I started with the idea of the stock bike with a Reba fork. I am not ready for a SS rigid, maybe someday. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to upgrade parts for racing. When all was said I done I have a fast rolling, good looking, one-of-a-kind bike. The stock bike w or w/o suspension would be an awesome weekend warrior bike.

** With just two rides, and one of them a race, I'm hooked-on-phonics for SS MTBs. Fix it and foget it.

Similar Products Used:its my only SS mountain but i have a sweet soma prestige road bike i converted.
Bike Setup:all stock except shimano pedals and panaracer XC tires.
Bottom Line:sweet bike. cheap price tag and it smokes even the guys with gears.

nice and simple and it puts all my other bikes to shame.

    Favorite Trail:Allaire
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $600.00
    Purchased At:Padi's Pedal Power
Strengths:A lot of bike for the money, light frame, nice geometry, decent component selection, cool paint job
Weaknesses:Headset could be better, cranks are flexy
Similar Products Used:Nishiki Cascade, Giant Anthem
Bike Setup:Stock except for Shimano 647 pedals, WTB Weirwolf 2.5 or Mutanoraptor 2.4 up front depending on my mood, WTB grips, Rocket Race saddle, Avid 7 V brakes
Bottom Line:This bike is a great way to get into the single speed market. I considered the regular steel Monocog but the Flight was speced closer to what I would have upgraded to anyway. The bike is light and responsive. The part spec is a great starting point since things like saddles, tires, etc tend to be personal choices. The only parts I will upgrade soon because I am truly not happy with them are the headset and the cranks. The price truly can't be beat, sure its not a botique bike or a flashy name but you can pour your saving into dialing the bike in.

    Date Reviewed: August 23, 2006
    Favorite Trail:San Juan
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $450.00
    Purchased At:Performance Bike
Strengths:Light, stiff, handles great and is fun to ride...also builds a serious set of legs when it's your only mtn. bike
    Weaknesses:Wheels only lasted 4 rides.
    Similar Products Used:None needed
Bike Setup:Easton EA70 Stem, Easton Carbon DH bars, King head set, Avid BB7's, King hubs on Mavic 819's, XT cranks, Race Face rock ring....I'm running out of parts to change...maybe a fork next.
Bottom Line:Sweet bike, It's the only mtn I bike have and the only one I need right now. After you learn how to ride it, it's fun to pass geared suspension bikes up and downhill sometimes. Or if you have a geared suspension bike you should at least try a SS once..

    Similar Products Used:First single speed
Bike Setup:Stock plus Avid BB7 mech. disc brakes, Surly tuggnut chain tensioner/bottle opener, salsa grips, mallet c pedals
Bottom Line:This bike is a breath of fresh air after hauling around a 38 pound all mountain prophet. It is way rigid and took some getting used too but soo much fun! Take twice a day and watch your legs grow!

    Favorite Trail:Sonora Pass
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $375.00
    Purchased At:MTBR!
    Strengths:Lightweight, simple, rugged.
    Weaknesses:Paint scheme.
    Similar Products Used:Nada
Bike Setup:18 and 16 teeth, Deep V velocity rims, mixed hubs, Candy pedals, C'dale bar, bar ends.
Bottom Line:Love it. I'm new to SS but what a way to get into it. The dimensions are just right for the varied terrain in the eastern Sierra's and I hardly miss any suspension even with the alum frame. It's more agile and as aggressive as my Scalpel and goes anywhere. Had some issues with the rear cog being crossthreaded, but since the repair it's juuust right. Can't rate the stock parts, but outstanding with the stuff that came with it. Overall great deal and such a good ride and feel, I'm just upgrading/personalizing some parts and keeping the rest of the beast for racing! Lot's of flaming turds. Semper Fi.

    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $420.00
Strengths:Strong frame, great wheels and tires, brakes offer more than enough stopping power.
    Weaknesses:The rider
Similar Products Used:Salsa Juan Solo, Gary Fisher Rig
Bike Setup:'04 Minute 2:00 (100mm), Chris King headset
Bottom Line:This bike is one of the funnest bikes I've ever ridden. It goes where you point it, it's fast and has very little noticable frame flex. Be careful if you decide to put a suspension fork on it. 100mm looks like it's going to be the max before you wind up with a wandering front end on the climbs. All in all it's well worth the money for anyone considering buying one.

    Date Reviewed: October 13, 2005
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $599.00
    Purchased At:bicyclebowout.com
Strengths:Super light and well made, good XC geometry and gearing 32x16, simple quality V-brakes
Weaknesses:Non-quick release seat clamp and it would be nice if you could remove the decals but they are clear coated.
Bike Setup:03'talas up front, 50 mm stem, 27" riser bars, WTB seat and eggbeaters
Bottom Line:I'd spun a freinds single speed and liked it enough to buy one but didn't want to spend a lot of coin. What a blast this bike has been! Super light and fast! The 17 with a short cockpit fits me perfect(I'm 5'7"). Climbs really well and I've been suprisingly impressed with the V-brakes which do the job just fine.

Buy one, you won't regret it.

    Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:Zion Cyclery - They Rock!!
Strengths:Where can you get a single speeder for under 23 pounds for $ 500 or so. Solid set up.
Weaknesses:Back triangle is tight, you can't convert it to multi speed.
Similar Products Used:none - all other bikes are multi speed. First single speeder.
Bike Setup:right out of the box. I only put my egg beater peddles on, and a bottle holder.
Bottom Line:I got a great deal after the season. Redline was getting ready for the new models. Zion cyclery got me one for cheep. Everything I see out there is heavier & more expensive. To get this weight your going to have to spend a good buck. I'm planning on racing this ride at least once before the season is over.

It's definitely fun and a pure feel.

    Favorite Trail:Wilder Ranch
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $600.00
    Purchased At:Joselyn's Bike in Monterey
Strengths:Great solid all around bike with decent componets all for a reasonable price. Perfect bike for the occassional singlespeeder.
Weaknesses:Handlebars were too narrow and the 110mm rear hub is not compatable with anything else.
Similar Products Used:Only full suspension bikes. Santa Cruz Blur and Haro Werks.
Bike Setup:2005 Redline Bike with Rock Shocks Duke SL Fork, wider bars and shimano clipless pedals.
Bottom Line:This bike is great for someone who wants to dabble in singlespeeding but doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a second bike. I'm 5'11" and went with the 17" frame which was a bit small until I changed to the wider bars and moved the seat back a touch. The Avid brakes, Kenda tires, and Ritchey componets are a nice touch. I personally like the slim seat but am used to them from my road bikes.

    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $600.00
    Purchased At:Tuffy's
Strengths:Very Light, and easy to control. It is a sturdy low maintinance bike. The gearing is great for most single track coarses. It has good components. Overall it is a great bike.
Weaknesses:The saddle is not the most comfortable. You will need to put a front suspension fork on yourself because it only comes in a rigid. It only comes in a 19" which is bad, but it is the biggest 19" i have sat on. I am 6'4" and i fit.
Similar Products Used:this is my first single speed. I will definitly buy more, and recomend this bike to others.
Bike Setup:My bike is standard from the warehouse.
Bottom Line:Great bike! Definitly worth the money, or atleast a good look.

    Date Reviewed: April 3, 2004
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $600.00
    Purchased At:Adventure Bicycle Company
Strengths:I wanted a good mountain style bike to be able to go riding with my sons. I started doing some research and found that in order to get a good mountain bike and not a wanna be you have to spend $1500-2000. A friend told me to look into singlespeeds. I looked at several company's versions. I finally settled on the Redline monoclog and went to the Bike shop to order a 19" frame version. The salesperson told that they had just came out with an aluminum version which came with upgraded components. It was $200.00 more than I planned on spending, but I went for it anyway, sight unseen. I am really happy I did!!! It is more than I was looking for.
Weaknesses:One and only one, the seat. After one day of riding I went back to the bike shop and traded for a WTB Comfort V. Other than the seat the bike is perfect!!
Similar Products Used:None, except at bike shops, which were Cannondale, Bianchi and Specialized.
Bike Setup:Stock, except for WTB saddle.
Bottom Line:I believe I made the right choice for me. Within budget, VERY LIGHT! Comfortable, fun to ride. The build quality. GREAT SINGLESPEED and yes it is a real mountain bike. Oh yeah, did I mention it is really light!!!
