I looked at A LOT of stock SS bikes. The Redline was certainly the best deal. I started with the idea of the stock bike with a Reba fork. I am not ready for a SS rigid, maybe someday. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to upgrade parts for racing. When all was said I done I have a fast rolling, good looking, one-of-a-kind bike. The stock bike w or w/o suspension would be an awesome weekend warrior bike.

The only parts I will upgrade soon because I am truly not happy with them are the headset and the cranks. I'm new to SS but what a way to get into it. The dimensions are just right for the varied terrain in the eastern Sierra's and I hardly miss any suspension even with the alum frame. It's more agile and as aggressive as my Scalpel and goes anywhere. Had some issues with the rear cog being crossthreaded, but since the repair it's juuust right. Can't rate the stock parts, but outstanding with the stuff that came with it. Overall great deal and such a good ride and feel, I'm just upgrading/personalizing some parts and keeping the rest of the beast for racing! Lot's of flaming turds. What a blast this bike has been! Super light and fast! The 17 with a short cockpit fits me perfect(I'm 5'7"). Climbs really well and I've been suprisingly impressed with the V-brakes which do the job just fine.

Redline was getting ready for the new models. Zion cyclery got me one for cheep. Everything I see out there is heavier & more expensive. To get this weight your going to have to spend a good buck. I'm planning on racing this ride at least once before the season is over.
It's definitely fun and a pure feel.

I'm 5'11" and went with the 17" frame which was a bit small until I changed to the wider bars and moved the seat back a touch. The Avid brakes, Kenda tires, and Ritchey componets are a nice touch. I personally like the slim seat but am used to them from my road bikes.

I started doing some research and found that in order to get a good mountain bike and not a wanna be you have to spend $1500-2000. A friend told me to look into singlespeeds. I looked at several company's versions. I finally settled on the Redline monoclog and went to the Bike shop to order a 19" frame version. The salesperson told that they had just came out with an aluminum version which came with upgraded components. It was $200.00 more than I planned on spending, but I went for it anyway, sight unseen. I am really happy I did!!! It is more than I was looking for. | | Weaknesses: | One and only one, the seat. After one day of riding I went back to the bike shop and traded for a WTB Comfort V.
