$150.00 | | Purchased At: | huckfest | | Strengths: | Stiff, black n mean. | | Weaknesses: | Too stiff, so it brakes spokes. | | Similar Products Used: | Mavic 321 | | Bike Setup: | Cove Peeler DH bike, Manitou Sherman fork, Maxxis Minion tyres. | | Bottom Line: | Buy em if you want something really rigid, but remember to bring those extra spokes when you're at a huckfest. It took me half a season to brake the first spoke, but now despite expert trueing they brake every week. Then again, maybe my expert is a bozo and you're not 90kg heavy like me. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$55.00 | | Purchased At: | Cambria Bicycle Emporium | | Strengths: | The strengths of these wheels lies in the fact they are heavy and made for young bucks who like to fly off of stuff. These rims are overkill for me. I ride X- country and I keep my wheels on the ground. | | Weaknesses: | The looks. I was in the market for a wider rim (not taller)to upgrade my bike and I listened to the salesman tell me how tuff these wheels were. Word of caution, never (if You can) purchase somthing unless you can see it in person. The other weakness is that these rims DO NOT work well with V- brakes. the sides should be machined. The squeeling brakes is the main reason I am dumping These rims. On the trail I never had to yell on your left! | | Similar Products Used: | none | | Bike Setup: | Stock 1997 Fisher Hoo-koo-e-koo | | Bottom Line: | I couldnt say how much of a beating these rims could take, but what I can say is that they are heavy look well made and straight as a dime. If you have V- brakes Dont waste your money. I have considered having the side walls machined, but will probably sell them on E-bay and cut my losses. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Essex Date Reviewed: August 7, 2004 | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Strengths: | It is strong in the sense it wont bend in half | | Weaknesses: | easy to flat sidewalls. within one week of riding in alps i had over 10 flat spots on the rim running 30+psi. I also had 10+ pinch flats in space of two weeks running these rims. Others i rode with ran same tyres and mavic rims and got maybe one flat over the same two week period. They crack where they are pinned together. Do not stay true for long | | Similar Products Used: | mavic 321, 521, trail pimps | | Bike Setup: | 2004 medium v10, dorado dh, chris king, xtr, raceface, hope | | Bottom Line: | You will sturgle to snap these rims or make them fold, but the sidewalls are crap, they flat, they cause flat tyres, they crack where they are pinned together. go buy some mavic. Everyone i met in the alps agree with me, atomlab are not woth it. The aircorp hubs are pretty unreliable too. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$52.00 | | Purchased At: | go-ride | | Strengths: | These look sweet! Pretty strong Not nearly as heavy as the Trail Pimps Extra wide for those of us who like fat tires Did I mention they're gorgeous? | | Weaknesses: | Not as strong as the DHR's or the Trail Pimps ('pimps are indestructable...) The sidewall conducts heat very poorly, resulting in melted brake shoes. If you ride rim brakes, get a pair of Sun Mammoths. A little bit heavy, flat spots are possible, but not probable as long as you don't totally over do it. I wouldn't drop them off of more than about 5 feet to flat. | | Similar Products Used: | Sun Mammoth (new setup on the way -- thanks to unrealcycles.com), Araya 820 (the arayas were the biggest mistake of my life, but I was broke), Atomic DHR and Trailpimp, Planet X BFR, Halo Combat SAS | | Bike Setup: | Gack TrailMod, Manitou Dorado SC, Hadley 20mm front/SS rear hubs, Sun Mammoth Rims, IRC Kujo DH, Chris King NoThreadSet, Profile Pro Crankset, Profile XXL BMX Stem, Profile Imperial Chainring, Primo Super Tenderizer Pedals, Poverty Sofa Seat/Post, Magura HS-33 Brakes | | Bottom Line: | These are great rims. If you want a little more out of this style wheel and don't mind spending a little more cash, go with the DHR's. They're very similar, but a lot stronger. I built a bike for a friend and put these on there. He had me ride it for a couple weeks to get any kinks worked out and I really enjoyed these rims.
They're fast and pretty tough, but if you're a total psycho, go with the TrailPimps. I weigh 135 and have jumped these repeatedly off of about 5' drops to flat cement and they've held up extremely well. In the month I rode them, they never came out of true. These are decent climbers -- you don't feel the weight too badly unless you're riding up a mountain. If you do urban assault, dirt jump, or other moderately aggressive riding, these are some really great rims.
If you're doing XC, these might be too heavy for you. If you use rim brakes, go with the Sun Mammoths; they have better surface area and maintain a cooler braking surface, so they don't eat your pads alive (if you ride Maguras like I do, you appreciate that, as pads are not cheap). | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$50.00 | | Purchased At: | Chainreactioncycles.com | | Strengths: | These are almost overkill for street/urban. Though as Hell. They can take anything beating that you can offer as long as you keep some air in you tubes. I have even head of DH's that have finished a whole DH-section with a flat tire, and the rims pulled it trough. The best looking rim out there. | | Weaknesses: | I can't find any weakness. Perhaps a bit heavy. | | Similar Products Used: | Mavic D321 | | Bike Setup: | Brusier frame, Psylo fork, Aircorp 26" wheels, Deore M555 discs, Atomlab steam, Raceface bar, Raceface bashguard, Chaindog, Wellgo pedals, Intense tires, Nokian DH tubes, Tioga saddle... | | Bottom Line: | Buy this rims right now if you want a long lasting rim for anything but xc. Do their work..(for a limited time | | Weaknesses: | The Atom labs slogan is tough as hell..I don't agree, I think that the seams should be welded becausa my rear aircorp ream just started to open there. The fron one staied true for 2 weeks, after a dirt jump crash it just turned untrue and impossible to completly fix it | | Similar Products Used: | Mavics, ritchey, I'm turning to double tracks | | Bike Setup: | .243 racing, dj1 24-seven | | Bottom Line: | if you are more like a 4x racer these are the rims for you!Light, enough tough for the job, but if your are more urban style and an hardtail pride maniac these are not your deal! $75.00 | | Purchased At: | Half Link Bike Shop | | Strengths: | Looks great when new, easy to mount tires. | | Weaknesses: | Weak material, non-welded seams | | Similar Products Used: | Atom Lab DHR, Mavic 521, Sun Doublewide | | Bike Setup: | Subterranean DH, Shiver, Sram, Hope for hubs and brakes. | | Bottom Line: | I was pretty disappointed with this rim, I liked the looks of it, and the Trailpimps on other bikes seem to hold (though they're just too heavy). I went with the 24" Aircorp on the back to save wieght, 'cause I couldn't get a 24" DHR. I'm running the 26" DHR up front, and it's much more impressive. The Aircorp's been on only 8 months, been to races, Whistler, Shore and it's beat!! There's five flat spots, and the seam is split on one side. I wouldn't go Aircorp again, but check the DHR... | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$55.00 | | Purchased At: | BSC | | Strengths: | looks tits, stiff as hell, not retartedly expensive (but not real cheap either), fairly strong | | Weaknesses: | it's not THAT strong.... i have the 24" version, and after 3 weeks of riding, it's pretty banged up. it has several flatspots and a buckle, and it's already been trued/retensioned once. yes, i make sure it has proper tension all the time. | | Similar Products Used: | Singletracks, Trailpimps - owned Mammoths, Rhyno Lites, 5/321s etc etc - ridden | | Bike Setup: | DMR Trailstar, DMR Sidekick fork, Trailpimp/Deore 24" front, Aircorp/Deore 24" rear, Truvativ cranks, Aireal guide. | | Bottom Line: | my aircorp rim wasn't quite what i'd hoped. i've *only* been dirtjumping it, and i do pretty small jumps (10ft or so gaps) and i haven't ever cased them THAT hard that they should be this whacked. they're still very much rideable, but i don't see them lasting much longer unfortunately. i'm definitely willing to try a TrailPimp on the rear though.
this rim is probably fine for most things, i just can't understand how i knocked it around so much. maybe i was just unlucky. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
