    Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:came on my vp free
    Strengths:none
Weaknesses:rear axle press fitted into hub. Too tight and upon removal blew up. hopeless design. Very tough to remove wheel from bike and just as hard to put on.
Similar Products Used:lots and never encountered such a goofy design
    Bike Setup:SC VP free, DHX 5, 888
Bottom Line:real disappointment was the service. Started out really well. I was on my way to Moab when the hub came apart in my hands as I was stuffing my buke into a box. In a panic I phoned WTB whereupon a very nice man at guaranteed he'd send the necessary parts to a shop of my choice in Moab. I juried the hub back toegther. The parts never showed up. The hub disintegrated in the on Poison Spider Mesa in the last hour of the "whole enchilada" seven hour epic. I had to run out to town. Despite all the assurances the parts would be sent it never happened. I tried and tried to reach WTB to figure out what went wrong. Nothing. They really blew it. I had to buy a used wheel from a wrench at the PSB shop. Probaly the only 150mm axle in all of Moab. Almost wrecked my holiday. Never again WTB. you are off my xmas list.

    Strengths:I had one snake bite.
Still didn't break the rim totally.
Weaknesses:1)The hub suck's, it came broke (frielofe run without the wheel) , so they gave me a new wheel.
but now, after 6 months the hub again, kindda broke, it get's stuck or loos from a time to time.
stuff the shouldn't happen to a hub.
also: the rims tend to dent pretty easily.
i have bunch of dents, the rim is very soft.
Similar Products Used:Xt hubs, formula Hubs, ritchey mavic rims.
Bike Setup:888, 5th element, sram cassete, sram gear.
FSA crank, e13th chainguide + bash guard.
    Iron Horse Sunday Team 2005.
Bottom Line:I think it's light weight wheel,
the rims can be good for 6 months.
The hubs though are not trustable.

    Price Paid: $80.00
    Purchased At:one phat hook-up
Strengths:Super burly wheel that looks cool and does what it's supposed to.
Weaknesses:It's tough to get a tire on it.
Bike Setup:'03 Kona Stinky with Jr. T up front and an MRP. I only have this rim in up front, but as I recently broke my back rim I will be getting a new on for the rear soon.
Bottom Line:This is a super strong rim, that can take all the abuse I throw at it. It's true that it's a little hard to get a tire on the rim, but that shouldn't stop you from getting these rims.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $285.00
    Purchased At:WTB
Strengths:Stiff, sleek, fast, and burly. All these words describe the Laserdisc DH wheelset. I just picked up a pair of these for my Kona Dudu, and I have to say that these wheels are the best of the best. Screw Mavic and all their Frenchie ideas, I say stick with WTB and get the right products for the job. Ones that work.
    Weaknesses:None.
Similar Products Used:Sun Singlewides, Doublewides, Rhynolites.
Bike Setup:2001 Kona Dudu -- Z.3 QR20+ -- XTR cranks -- Mr Dirt guide -- Gremeca Hydraulic disc brakes -- WTB Weirwolf 2.5 tires -- WTB Power V DH saddle -- etc.
Bottom Line:The bottom line is this: If you want a wheelset that isn't gonna break on the trail or break the bank at home, get this wheelset. I can ride these wheels anywhere without having to worry about anything going wrong. Plus, if anything *does* go wrong, I know that my friends at WTB will be right there to help me fix the problem. Bottom line: BUY THESE WHEELS.

Submitted by Justin a Weekend Warrior from Boone, NC USA
    Date Reviewed: February 25, 2002
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Purchased At:Bike ways
    Strengths:Stiff and strong. Black.
Weaknesses:Double butted spokes on a DH wheelset? Not the best place to save weight for that kind of riding. I switched to some longer brass nipplies up front to gain some additional stiffnes.
Similar Products Used:mavics, rigidas, suns, others....
Bike Setup:Surly insigator with manitou supernova and hayes hydaulics.
Bottom Line:These wheels are beefy and well built, but for the money you could build up a good set of sun mammoths on similar hubs or something, that would be just as burly, and probably cheaper. And, the tires are not that hard to get on and off. Just take your time and deflate the tube. Trust me, I work at a bike shop. It's not that hard.

    Favoriate Trail:Porcupine Rim Moab
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $500.00
    Purchased At:PTP
Strengths:Quite Strong, good looking and fairly light weight. They take 3-6 foot drops quite well. Rear wheel went out of true a little after doing a 6 foot drop but nothing to cry about.
Weaknesses:Powder coating scratches easily. Tires are quite difficult to put on and to take off. After going through 4 tire levers i decided to get some DH Tire levers. This made life a whole hell of a lot easier.
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Bullit, Mrp With race face north shore cranks,xt derailleur, Hayes Hydralic disk brakes with 8 inch rotor up front and six in the rear. Wtb Laser disk dh, of course, and wtb moto 2.4s, Plus a marzocchi monster T
Bottom Line:Well the bottom line is If you want a fairly light and really strong wheel set for light freeriding or dh this is an excelent choice. But if you decide to purchase this wheel set then my suggestion to you would be to purchase some intense dh tire levers. Trust me it will make your life quite easier.

    Date Reviewed: September 13, 2001
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Purchased At:Build kit
    Strengths:Strong
Weaknesses:WAY too difficult to put the tires on/off.
Similar Products Used:umm, i've had lots of rims.
Bike Setup:Bullit, Super x FreeRide build kit.
Bottom Line:Well, you can't get WTB tires on the WTB rims. I talked to WTB about this, and they said that this was to prevent the tire from coming off during a professional race. This is BS, because it is SO difficult that i actually tore the kevlar bead from one of their tires trying to mount it. The rims are slightly larger in diameter and the tire's bead is slightly smaller, and WTB want's it that way.

After talking to customer service, WTB has stopped returning my calls/emails, and has not resolved this problem. Their customer service sucks, and so to their rims if you can't mount tires on them.

I have been riding on them (with different tires) and they seem to be holding up fine. But i'd be very worried if i had a flat on the trail and needed to change the tire.

If you own these, buy some metal tire levers.

    Weaknesses:Getting tires on / off

    Date Reviewed: August 11, 2001
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $450.00
    Purchased At:go-ride
    Strengths:The rim is strong
    Weaknesses:Heavy
    The hubs are horrible
    Similar Products Used:atomic trailpimp wheels
Bottom Line:After 6 months of using it only on weekend the hubs died. When I was removing the 20mm axle the hub fell apart in pieces. The bearings fell of and I had to rebuild a 'sealed hub'. The rims are pretty strong, they are identically to 321´s. For the price you could get something better like an Atomic wheelset.

    Favoriate Trail:Demo
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $10.00
    Strengths:Black, nice looking, smooth
    Weaknesses:Weak!
    Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:SantaCruz bullit, freeride kit, Marzocchi Z1 Qr20
Bottom Line:These wheels come stock with the freeride kit from Santa Cruz. I bent the rear wheel on a first ride, just easy cross-country stuff. The head mechanic at an LBS couldn't even get them back to true laterally or radially. The build of the wheels is very suspect. I'm not a heavy rider, I think these rims should hold up better being a DH rim.
