(10 mile walk home.) Bought a Topeak Mtn morph the next day had haven't looked back...I've had that pump for almost 2 years now. (it's fantastic) For god's sake buy something with a metal barrel. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$15.00 | | Purchased At: | Bike Nashbar | | Strengths: | Cost rebiuld kit available Good mounting kit | | Weaknesses: | Pin in handle assembly | | Similar Products Used: | Cheap hand pumps Nice air compresser | | Bike Setup: | '91 Bridgestone CB-1 with most componets | | Bottom Line: | Great light pump for fixing those flats. The only problem is that the pivot pin that hold the handle on and allows the handle to rotate can work out. That gets a little annoying when the pumping gets a little harder. Just need to keep an eye on it but overall a great pump. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$20.00 | | Purchased At: | Sports Authority | | Strengths: | This pump is light weight and fairly durable. It attaches nicely to the bike frame, tucked out of the way under my water bottle cage. It inflates relatively well with alittle patience. Works on both presta and shrader valves. | | Weaknesses: | The only real weakness found is in the handle design. It rattles loose on choppy terrain and collects vast amounts of sand, dirt and water that eventually finds its way into the barrel. THERE IS A SOLUTION! READ BOTTOM LINE | | Similar Products Used: | cheap pumps | | Bike Setup: | 2002 Specialized A1 Rockhopper FSRxc, modified quite abit | | Bottom Line: | A good pump that will get you out of a jam if you are stuck out in the middle of nowhere. The key to this device is keeping it clean from riding debris. After losing one pump to dirt, sand and water, I decided to somehow fix the problem because I still thought the item was great. All you have to do is take black electrical tape and wrap from the top of the handle down to the main cylinder. Similar to putting a grip on a tennis racket. This keeps the handle from shakig loose and it prevents dirt and water from entering the barrel. When you have a tire problem just unwrap, inflate and you are back on the trail. If you are careful, you can reuse the tape you just took off (hang it from your handlebar while using the pump.) All in all this is a good pump and its fairly inexpensive, plus light weight. No one likes being stuck, I had to walk 6 miles one day because I didnt have it. YIKES | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

If you want something with a little bit of quality at an ok price this pump is fine. Better off getting something a little stronger and made of aluminum or something other than plastic. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$20.00 | | Strengths: | Light Weight, Rebuildable | | Weaknesses: | ? | | Similar Products Used: | None | | Bottom Line: | I am very happy with this pump. I mounted it on my seat tube using the included bracket. This location was convienent, but exposed the pump to plenty of mud and sand. I used the pump several times when I had flat tires, and it worked well. Yesterday, I took the pump apart, and found that it was full of dirt. This did not seem to impair performance, so it must be a robust design. I cleaned it and relubed it, and it is ready for another season. Good user-servicable product.

from Flatland, TX Date Reviewed: July 10, 2000 | | Favoriate Trail: | anything | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | Easy to use, nice grip, pumps like a charm. | | Weaknesses: | Handle assembly. | | Similar Products Used: | None | | Bottom Line: | I really like this pump, except......I've used it for about a year. The only problem I've found is that the handle unscrews itself from the pump shaft. This most recently happened while I was in the middle of a rainstorm in the Mountains and needed to fix a flat. Ouch! However, even without the handle, I was able to pump the tire without the handle and mud my way home. I went stright to a bike shop to replace the pump and found that the new versions of this pump have some kind of adhesive seemingly to prevent this from occurring. I have contacted Blackburn to invoke the lifetime warranty. I'll repost if I encounter any trouble in that regard. All in all, I think with the fix they have made this is a super, affordable pump. 3 chilis overall for mine, I think the new, improved ones deserve a four. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The lip on the cap is far too thin as it broke on me the third time I used it. I would have been pissed royally if this left me stranded and I had to walk back several miles to the trailhead. Luckily, I used the cap from my old BlackBurn (plunger had died after 4 years!), so no point in returning for the same model. Stick with the Mammoth, although it is more expensive, the value of it comes through like a champ! I give it one chili as you can't put zero. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Pump must be mounted handle up, but other than that, ZERO problems. I LOOKS kind of cheap, but works like a pump costing much more. Now that I have the money, I got the MMP-1 a) cause it looks cooler b) aluminum should be even stronger c) I REALLY like this company after trying the Kamikazi | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Thia pump is super sweet! I got it as a gift, and I love the a) Light weight, b) strength, and most of all the pivoting handle, which makes pumping more efficient than all my friends' pumps. I just wish it hand dual action pumping, but it's not a big enough deal to take any points off. | Overall Rating: |

This pump seems to be a great value for the money. A friend of mine had a more expensive Cannondale mini pump with a pressure gauge and tech shit like that. It broke. Of course he didnt know that until he had pumped 417 times only to find all the air blowing out the side. Anyway, the only problem I've had is water getting inside it during the rain. Also, the first time I tried to use it, it bent my presta valve beyond repair. Of course, that tube was not long for this world anyway. Eventually I figured out that you have to put one hand behing the pump, by the valve, while the other pumps. This is worse than some mini pumps which are held at an angle to the valve so that you only need one hand. | Overall Rating: |

Just bought the Kamikaze at a local Outdoor Store because it was right next to the MMP-1 Mammoth Mountain Pump. It looked almost identical, was 10$ cheaper and still had a lifetime warranty. It pumps like crazy, but I have had one recurring problem - if pull back on the stroke too far the handle yanks the end cap out of the main tube. No doubt this is due to the nylon construction (rather than the aluminum in the MMP-1). If I am careful not to pull back so far it's no problem, but if you're in a hurry, you'll end up screwing it back together. I probably won't take the trouble to return it and I'm too cheap to fork out another $10. I'll just wait 'til it's totally hosed and then invoke the warranty. Too many good points to give it a bad rating, if not for the aggravation factor I'd give her five chilis. | Overall Rating: |
