Description:Wellgo WPD 103

Submitted by Paul a from LaVerne Ca US
Date Reviewed: October 11, 2002
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $60.00
Purchased At:Pasadena
Strengths:Rugged Construction
Weaknesses:Can't clip in, can't clip out!
Bike Setup:Dual suspension Giant Warp
Bottom Line:Submit a review? I can't believe I'm willing to waste my precious time! Just like the other guy, I had to cut away massive amounts of my shoes just to clip in. Also, the so called tension adjustment is set as low as I could get it and I STILL can't get in. I paid 60 bucks for garbage! "Go Shimano or go home."

Favoriate Trail:any
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:Ebay
Strengths:Not.
Weaknesses:It was vary hard to get in them. My first pair of clipless. After trying a friends clipless I saw the issue. the part you clip in to does not pivot forward or back. I took them apart and modified the pedals to pivot. know i clip right in. Its to bad that I paid good money and still had to modify it to make it work somewhat.
Bottom Line:Bottom line> If I knew ahead I would not purchase these. I did try my friends (Shimano M-646) they will be my next purchase.

Favoriate Trail:YES
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:supergo
Strengths:Maybe better than nothing at all. Seemed pretty rugged.
Weaknesses:If you got in you weren't getting out. If all the folks that don't like the Kore GASS tried these they might change their minds.
Similar Products Used:Specialized full cage clipless.
Bike Setup:OLD KHS. Steel is real!
Bottom Line:These pedals just don't measure up when it comes to others out there. The price was good, but could've bought a couple cases of beer instead! There is no up and down float in them which made them almost impossible to get in and out of. Specialized were much better and more what I would expect from a clipless platform pedal.

Date Reviewed: September 23, 1999
Duration Product Used:
less than 1 month
Strengths:
Easy to stay on pedal when not clipped in (bombing a downhill), nice removeable rear cage, replaceable traction pins, reasonable price.
Weaknesses:
Front part of binding sits too low, cannot easily clip in toe first because the platform gets in way.
Similar Products Used:
toe straps
Bike Setup:
Trek 6500, Rock Shox Judy C
Bottom Line:The pedal worked well over technical sections when I was unclipped. It also held me in while climbing. The biggest complaint is that the front part of the binding sits lower than the rear and without carving loads of tread out of my shoes I had to clip in rear-first! I first thought they put it together wrong at the factory - but looking at the pictures showed they are all like that. I had to carve out about 3 inches forward of my cleat and 3 inches wide out of the sole of my Rockhopper shoes in order to barely be able to clip in toe first! I was not impressed. I e-mailed Wellgo (in Taiwan) and they never responded. I can use the pedal - but I can't clip in without a struggle. I should have coughed up another $20 and got the Shimano 636's. The 636 binding sits high enough to get your toe in first without destroying the soles of your new shoes! By the way - I ordered the Wellgo 804 from Supergo and they were out - so they sent me the 103, which is supposed to be an upgrade...?? The tech person at Supergo said that it is common to have to carve up your soles in order to clip in on some platform pedals.
