It has thick layer to protect our head from gettting hospital bill for head injury. The visor position was well attached and does not block the view. | | Weaknesses: | I hate to stick back the pads! the glue spoils the day! wasting my time sticking the pad and Roc-loc strap even when I'm still riding on my bike thats horrible! | | Similar Products Used: | Bell Nemesis Pro, Giro Terrero, E2. | | Bike Setup: | Specialised FSR Comp, RS JUDY Race, XT mix XTR, XT Disc, Mavic's. | | Bottom Line: | The helmet really rocks, handsome looks and hardcore protection and also cools your head down.
I bought it cuz it inherit genes from its grandpa whose name was SWITCHBLADE ! If you dont want to look like euro rodie looks but wanna look like MX rider, then this is the helmet for u!

$75.00 | | Purchased At: | D'Aniello's Amity Cycle 203-387-6734 | | Strengths: | This is a 2000 model and was discounted from $100 to $75. Great fit! Tried on the $40 Giro Gila first in SM/MED and it was loose fitting. This Hammerhead in SM/MED fit perfectly w/o extra pads. So, make sure you try more than one style on.
Good construction. Adjustability of the ROC LOC 2 system is great. The removable visor is a nice feature. Hope is stays in place. Like the looks of this helmet, not overly big, nice ivory color.
It's so light in weight and vented so well I hardly know its on!!! I'm use to off-road full-face motocross helmets and on-road motorcycle helmets that weigh A LOT more and have almost no ventilation. This is a "cool feather" by comparison. | | Weaknesses: | Cost, was planning on spending only $40. Seems visor might get pulled loose/off by branches. | | Similar Products Used: | Compared fit to Giro Gila. | | Bike Setup: | Iron Horse ATB 20 (First non-motorized bike in 30 years! Entry level, bought used) | | Bottom Line: | I recommend it.
Good fitting, good looking, light, cool, and PROTECTIVE so there's no good reason NOT to wear the helmet everytime riding.
Score 4 instead of 5 for both categories since I have no other bike helmet experience.

$90.00 | | Strengths: | Fits great. Durable off the bike and on. Roc Loc holds the helmet in place better than other brands I've used. Super cool and ventilating. I can ride hard for 20 miles in 80 degree temps, take the helmet off and my hair is still dry on top. I haven't had the problem with the visor coming off that others have reported. Can be used with or without the visor. The visor also adjusts up and down. | | Weaknesses: | Kind of expensive, although the Hammerhead is now discontinued so you might be able to get it cheap online or in the bargain bid of your local store. Inside pads come loose (true for most helmets I've known) but can be reattached using a glue gun. The squared-off looking back shape is a little different than the normal pointy back design. Some people might not like this. Makes no difference to me. | | Similar Products Used: | Three different models of Bell Image, dating back to 1989. | | Bike Setup: | road, commuter, mountain | | Bottom Line: | Great helmet. Excellent fit. Cool and airy. Durable.
A discontinued model that they should have kept. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I got it for 60 bucks at Supergo which is a steal for this helmet. It fits my head perfectly which is hard to find a helmet that does because I have a large head (7 3/4). It has great ventilation, even though it only has 18 vents because the vents are huge. The Roc Loc is awesome and keeps the helmet right in place. The problems people are talking about with the visors must be about older models because this years model has a secure snap on, adjustable visor. It is easy to take off and stays right in place. Also it is stylish for all you people that worry about that kind of thing. For cross country riding this is an awesome helmet. Even at slow speeds I can feel the wind through the vents. The pads help wick sweat away from my face, too, so it's not dripping into my eyes while I ride.
I have 2 major complaints with this helmet, though. First, the visor is awful. I have an older helmet with a little velcro patch in the center (the new ones have that adjustable visor), and it frequently falls down in my face while riding -- usually at the most inopportune times. For the most part, I just leave the damn thing off and ride without it. The other big problem is one that's been addressed here by virtually everyone: the glue holding down the velcro pads and the Roc Loc comes undone. Others have made great suggestions about how to fix it, but the problem shouldn't happen at all. Overall, a 3 chili pepper rating. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Seems like the marketing is the only real difference, the materials are the same and the 2000's look like the flow is even close. Ok, the Roc-Loc is different, but they will all work about the same when you ram your head into a tree. Mine is the new version (different colors, patterns). Much different then what I had originally looked at about 3 months ago. I haven't experienced any of the pad problems discussed below, but it might be too soon to tell. Looks great (kinda a tattoo pattern, for what it matters), and fits my head well. I don't even know I am wearing it.
Look for people trying to unload last year's helmets on the web, you could get one for $59.99 or cheaper if you are lucky, and it will work just as good as a $159.99 model.

I rode with my Hammerhead for a few months. Two weeks ago, it gave its inanimate life for me, cracking in an accident. The accident sheared off the visor, separated my AC joint, and shredded the pins that held my rider number to my Camelback. I had to shake my head to keep myself from passing out after the crash. I wish I had the same quality of protection for my shoulder as I did for my head! I had no neckache, and only a mild headache that went away in a few hours. Giro's replacement program is OK: a net $60 credit toward the purchase of a new Giro helmet. The credit varies with the cost of the helmet you have.Other than that, I think the looks are great. I had the Roc Loc to the point where the helmet popped onto my head, and I could shake it around without the neck straps and the helmet would barely move. Ventilation is first rate. When I go to replace it, my choices will be the Hammerhead and the Exodus. | Overall Rating: |

Just bought the thingy....It´s great!!! A helmet, is a good helmet, when it can perform the disappearing act, this helmet does that with excellence. The rocloc system really works, and your able to do all sorts of adjustments, in order to get the thing to glue to your head. Further more it has an awesome design, good proctection....and so on. Whats to say.......buy the thing!!! | Overall Rating: |

This Giro Hammerhead helmet is far superior then my 3 year old Giro Holeshot helmet. The hammerhead has more vents which means more air flow. Its lighter thus less fatique. And it sticks to my head like glue (even when I went head over heals trying to do an impossible dropoff. Just one thing though it looks kind of boxy from the rear, being that's the view others will get as you pass them by. Give it 4 of those red little hot things.

What kind of crap review is that one?!? (I am refering to the review that is below this one). Some people have too much time on thier hands. I have a Giro Switchblade (see the review when they post the product) which is basically a hammerhead when you take the face guard. It is a great helmet and fits me like a glove. I would say--spend the extra $$$ and get the switchblade. If you aren't crashing, you aren't trying hard enough. Get a helmet that will give you peace of mind and put it to good use. | Overall Rating: |
