Strengths:Very light and comfortable, the padding rarely comes off and lasts forever. The visor is great not only for the sun, but it also does a great job at keeping the rain from hitting your eyes.
Weaknesses:Umm.....

Date Reviewed: April 8, 2003
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:It is a helmet and has more foam than holes.
Weaknesses:Fit is not so good for me. Not as comfortable as Giro
Similar Products Used:Giro
Bike Setup:training wheels
Bottom Line:Well, I was riding down the road and was hit by a freight train and killed. Seems I did not read the warnings and continued to use this after a crash because it looked ok. The foam had been crushed and it lost its ability to asorb impact. Of course, it wouldn't have helped with the train anyway.
USed for years, it is ok. It is a bike helmet. pads are better than Giro junk which falls apart quickly. A bear to adjust. The fact that it is not as aerodynamic as others cost me the Tour De France 2 years in a row.

Weaknesses:Not enough working air vents, your head gets hot after a while.
Visor gets in way
Similar Products Used:Bell - something....... i can't quite remeber
Bike Setup:99 GT Arrowhead
Bottom Line:this helmet will protect you if you stack, but you will have a very hot head by the end of a long ride

Date Reviewed: March 28, 2000
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:1.price
2.tough built
Weaknesses:1.ventilation is not adequate
2.visor interferes with your sight
Bike Setup:mongoose switchback
Bottom Line:considering that the only way to get some air flowing through the vents is to bend your head down and then not being able to see anything because of the visor it's aiiiiight. Although i have to admit that i've used it for quite a while and it took a lot of abuse and still is in working shape

Date Reviewed: March 18, 2000
Favoriate Trail:anything with lots tech. and xc
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:still wearable after 3 years
Weaknesses:Really weak shell, dosent look good, hot, not quite stylin
Similar Products Used:CCM (what a joke)
Bike Setup:tange frame, race race cranks, stx rc and xtr wheelset
Bottom Line:This helmet can take a lot of punishment, i hit a tree head first on a downhill and the helmet didn't crack (my neck still hurt pretty bad though). The outer shell is weak though and will become brittle in the cold and soft in the heat. Its a good helment for recreational riders or downhillers who don't want full face helmet.

Favoriate Trail:Loch Raven
Duration Product Used:6 months
Strengths:Protestion
Price
Weaknesses:Looks big on my head
My head gets hot after an hour of riding
Bottom Line:This helmet has saved my life. I was riding on a slight downhill trail that was unfamilar and caught some air off a mound. The trail makes a sharp right about 15 feet after the mound. In mid-air I paniced and put on my brakes. When I hit the ground I was sent flying head first into a bed of rocks.
The side of my helmet (near the temple) hit a good size rock. After regaining my sight 5 minutes later, I thanked God that I had that helmet on. My helmet has about a half-dollar size dent on the side of it. Aside from looking big on my head and it getting a little to hot, I have to give it 5 flamers. It server its purpose, it kept my big head from being cracked open.

Strengths:

Weaknesses:
Bad ventilatioin-especially on long rides
straps
Similar Products Used:
Bell evo2
Giro exodus
Giro hammerhead
Bike Setup:
does it mater?
Bottom Line:This was an ok helet for me. I'm 15 and this was my first mountain bike helmet, but since i,ve crashed on it 4 times (last one my head hit a tree at about 20mph). It can survive a crash and work again, but it doesn't deliver the ventilation and comfort of my new Evo2 which was only 50 bucks!

Submitted by Brett a Weekend Warrior from Denton TX
Date Reviewed: June 30, 1999
Duration Product Used:
3 months
Bottom Line:Good price serves the purpose of a helmet. My big complaint is it gets a little toasty here in TX. I end up using part of my water just to keep my head cool and that's a waste of water. Especally in hot summer days around here. But hey it serves the purpose and saved my butt once when I flipped over the handle bars down a really steep hill.

Strengths:
Saves your head from being destroyed
Weaknesses:
The velcro holding the back brace always comes off.
The visor is terrible.
Inside padding is pretty useless
Bottom Line:I really dont like this helmet too much. I bought it because of the price, but for something you have to wear all day it is worth going out and spending a few extra bucks.

Bottom Line:

My chemistry teacher had this decent-looking helmet kicking around his classroom for months. My friend and I were in after school one day when he offered me the helmet. a quick inspection and a what the hell later, I was cruisin with this slick piece of gear. The vents are OK, but when I get sweatin` it gets a little toasty. The straps slipped and the visor keeps coming off. (a little duct tape solves this problem nicely). My brother can`t wait to get his greasy little hands on it when I get a better brain bucket. It has its quirks, but doesn`t everything you wear for several hundred hours?

Bottom Line:

This helmet is okay i guess. It fits snugly and confortably on my head. And its fairly cheap. But I don't like the way the straps dig into my chin/neck, even after adjusting them. The ventalation is poor, my head always sweats when i ride. Overall its a pretty good helmet, if i had my time back, I would have bought the Louis Garneau Alien instead.

Bottom Line:

Bell vertigo saved my life yesterday! Went first trial ride with friends and lost control at first down hill. I cannoned off the bike upon impact and ramed the ground, head on. Stood up, lost my glasses, brusied my knees and elbows but luckily, head is ok (except a little concussion and slight neck sprain). My poor front rim has been disfigured. Turned into an S-shaped junk metal with twisted spokes. I believe the impact was estimated at least 100 G.Vertigo helmet DOES protect as well as it looks (although it resembles the old Oasis with an added visor)...... I give it four chillis.

Bottom Line:

I brought this green silver and black helmet in a sale in Edmonton, Canada because it was cheap.
The fit seems a bit tight and it gives me a headache !
But as it only cost me $25 (less than a tenner) it leaves me with lots of money for head ache tablets.

A damn good piece of head equipment. It looks a lot better then the cratoni helmet I used to have, the vents actually work. It fits snug aroung my head protecting what little brain I have left from my crazy riding style. This is a helmet that I would definatly reconmend to all riders.

Got one for $69AUS, which is pretty good, and I'm very satisfied. It is made well, fits perfectly, and I don't seem to have the ventilation probs of many others here. Nice colours, and I like the visor too. Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaa! :)

Bottom Line:

I would definitely reccommend this helmet to anyone. I've seen a lot of complaints about the ventilation on the helmet but so far I haven't noticed in the 2 years I have had it. The colors are great, it fits perfectly on my head, doesn't move around and has saved my head numerous times. The best feature of the Bell Vertigo Pro is the price! I paid about $39 Canadian (which is about $1 American now-a-days :)) for mine and it has done it's duty and done it well.

Date Reviewed: August 1, 1998
Bottom Line:

Haven't crashed so seriously on my head to say if this is a safe helmet, but I guess that's what the certifications are for! Helmet looks ok, but I'm kinda tired of the way this helmet looks now, hehe, starting to long for the Bell EVO2 or some of the Giro's! But anyway, this helmet is reasonably priced and fits quite well, no slippage, and no rattling on bumpy single-track. Only complaint I have about this helmet is that it doesn't really keep your head cool. Ventillation is inadequate.

Submitted by Steve a cross-country rider from PA
Date Reviewed: July 31, 1998
Bottom Line:

I wish I would have gotten the same helmet all of these other people are talkin about. My Vertigo Pro is an annoying piece of junk. The visor is driving me nuts. The pathetic little plactic pin that is supposed to keep the thing down in the front never stays in the hole it's supposed to. All I get done doin is pullin it back down into position and back into the hole. The vecro for the padding slides around and exposes the glue that is supposed to hold it. I rip my hair out every time I take the thing off. The ventilation is nonexistant to say the least. The only good thing this helmet has goin for itself is the price and the colors don't look like a bad acid trip like alot of others do.

Date Reviewed: July 13, 1998
Bottom Line:

Bought this helmet for $39.95 in NYC. Great value for money and great fit. The only problem is that you must glue the straps after you found your fit because they tend to slip during rides. I'll give it a 4 because the ventilation lacks, but I must add the extra star for the price!

Submitted by Mark a weekend warrior from Nova Scotia, Canada
Date Reviewed: June 27, 1998
Bottom Line:

The reinforcement of helmet laws in my province have forced me to buy a helmet. I went to many of the local shops and found that there were a lot of very cheap helmets (around $20) which looked aweful, and there were a lot of expensive ones ($70+) that still didn't look that great. I finally settled on the Vertigo Pro helmet by Bell because I liked it's looks, the visor, and it fitted me great. The price was the best part, though, at only $39 plus tax.
I would definately recommend this helmet to anyone, and I think that the new color scheme for this helmet (for 1998) is pretty awesome too...

This helmet fits me well and is comfortable. While I am riding I don't even know it's on my head.
Maybe that is just because I am busy watching out for tress though. I would buy this helmet again and
weighing in at $39.95 it didn't break my bank account. Minus one for minimal
ventilation though...4 stars.

Bottom Line:

This is one of the lower end helmets on the Bell line. I don't really like it that much. I just don't like the Bell padding system. I can't get a good fit with it. This is a good helmet if you are using it for just riding around town and not really too aggressivly. It is very economical. It serves its purpose.

I think this helmwt is great. I have ridden on this helmet for years. I think it is great helmet and would recomend anyone to wear it. I have worn this helmet in all conditons snow, rain, sleet, and once durng a tornado (scarest thing ever). I haven't ever wrecked on the helmet. But I will be getting a new helmet soon so this one will hit the scrap pile soon. I think the ventiliation is sucks hard but overall a good fitting helmet. I would recomend it.

This is a great helmet for $70
what can i say??
i think it looks great
offers fairly good ventilation
rounded padding so your head doesnt move the pads when
you put it on - a nice touch
great helmet but the service i got from bell was less than enthusiastic
i fell off my bike in a huge way, lande d on my head
and broke the helmet. I dont mind that, i didnt feel a thing, it protected
my head like it was supposed to, but two months has passed since
i sent it back to bell for a half price crash replacement
phone calls did nothing.
poor effort mr bell, bu great helmet nonetheless!!!
