Favoriate Trail:South Rim
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $400.00
Strengths:The geometry is perfect for tight, tech riding. But its not too twitchy when you get up to speed. Lowish bottom bracket rips turns. Its light, compliant, and nothing rides like steel!
Weaknesses:None. Some people are complaining about the paint chipping, but its a mountian bike. Its going to get chipped and dinged. Just touch up the chips so it doesn't rust.
Similar Products Used:Too many to list
Bike Setup:Marzocchi Marathon S, XT/XTR, Easton carbon risers, Mavic 517's, Hugi's, Ritchey stuff,and WTB Motoraptor 2.4" tires
Bottom Line:Nothing fancy to look at, but its the best ride I have owned. And even as a shop manager/buyer, I haven't found anything else yet that I would rather ride.

Favoriate Trail:The Long
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $400.00
Purchased At:Speed Goat
Strengths:I put on a Kelly rigid front fork and the bikes Climbs like a dream, Even when I'm way off a fireroad or track the bike has enough bend to go over anything, Fast and quick on the road or on the trail... It is a one bike wonder. I've put my road bike to bed as well as my full suspention
Weaknesses:I havn't found any yet.. Maybe the paintjob but Gunner runs a special with Waterford and gives you 3 choices to upgrade for free... I did so with the Waterford Dark Silver
Similar Products Used:Specialized S-works, Univega Ultima, Trek Fuel etc etc
Bike Setup:I broke down my s-works and put mostly XTR with a mix of XT and put on a Sram 9.0 front d and shifter. I also put a rigid Kelly front fork on for fire road and snowmobile path adventures. Right now I have Acrobat tires but usually use a simi slick...
Bottom Line:This is by far the best value and bike I've ever been on.

The bike rides like a dream and it blends into the background perfectly so that people don't tend to knowtice it until they see me fly by..

Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Hearns Cycling & Fittness
Strengths:Great ride. Not everyone has one.
Weaknesses:No clearcoat.
Similar Products Used:Only cheap steel and good aluminum.
Bike Setup:Marzochi 100mm, XT/LX
Bottom Line:Aside from the ride and the value of this bike, which are both GREAT, I like the fact that not everyone has this bike. In fact when I show up to ride with a group I am pretty confident in two things 1) no one will have the same bike as me & 2) When the ride is over I will not be left wanting what someone else was riding. In our current "walmarting" trend, it's nice to find somthing unique. Gunnars are cool!

Strengths:Sturdy frame, at a 21 inch frame it has a reasonable weight (24 pounds built up), smooth assembaly, and nice feel.
Similar Products Used:Gunnar makes a nice single speed (Ruffian) that I enjoyed.
Bike Setup:LX/XT
Bottom Line:Sweet, Kosher assembaly, godam

Favoriate Trail:Real long ones
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $695.00
Purchased At:Friendly Bike Greens boro NC
Strengths:A REAL BARGAIN
Weaknesses:Maybe the paint Maybe not otherwise this bike is cherry
Similar Products Used:Litespeed Ocoeeeeee weeeee weeeee
Bike Setup:Race rocket, Rock Shox Sid race, Cane Creek Wheels XT controls, Avid arch supreme brakes Various home made goodies and a Cane Creek Seatpost for my back
Bottom Line:Straight out of the box I entered a 60 mile Mtb race. The bike climbs like a rocket. The ride is like buttah. I am the racer that Matt aludes to in the beginning of this review. The Litespeed was very slow to change direction fom side to side. It reqired quite a bit of control input. The Gunnar While not as agile as a Zaskar or a Yeti is just perfect for me.It is the perfect combination of handling , fast but not too fast. Yeah, steel is real. BONUS>>you should see the looks you get from some of the FREDS at the trail head. Yeah bro, it really is steel no it doesn't weigh a ton yes a battleship is also made of steel. Thanks to Les, Kristen, Matt and all the rest of the folks at Friendly Bike in Greensboro. Throw em a bone when you come to ride the kick butt trails in NC

Date Reviewed: July 31, 2001
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $695.00
Purchased At:Friendly Bike
Strengths:Steel Ride, low BB, stable handling. I love riding epics and not getting a sore back.
Weaknesses:Paint is basic, chearcoat would help a lot. Mine is chipped from lose babyheads I kick up with my cranks.
Similar Products Used:Fisher hardtails, Aluminum bikes, Tange Steel bikes
Bike Setup:Its the Ruffian, the singlespeed version of the Rock Hound. Phil Wood/Hayes/Avid disk brake on Mars elite, etc.
BMX chain tensioners, Surly 1x1 rear hub, handbuilt wheels
Bottom Line:I have raced it really hard since getting it in january. Very smooth, nice handling. Mine was about 4.4 lbs, sweet welds. I think its an exceptional value to get a US made steel frame for this price, as well as all the custom upgrade options available normally found on bikes twice as much. I like it so much I plan to get another one with an eccentric bottom braket so i can run a rear disk as well.

As an aside, one of the local racers broke his litespeed. Since litespeed consolidated, the service is crap. Six weeks to fix. So he would have been out for the season. Gunnar/Waterford worked with me and the customer had a snow yellow Rock Hound frame in his hands in a week. He likes the ride better, he is selling his litespeed when it comes back, which will more than cover the cost of his frame.

Bottom Line:i can climb all day on this bike, it is very light, very responsive, i dream of riding it and sometimes find myself just staring at it while doing my post ride cleaning. this is definetely among the sweetest bikes around right now. the price is definately right. i think i spent about $15OO building it up. bar none best money i ever spent
