    Strengths:Light, good adjustability.
Weaknesses:None if used for purpose they were designed for.
    Similar Products Used:Maz X-fly 80
    Bike Setup:04' K2 Razorback 4.0
Bottom Line:This is for the 03/04 model(i was told they haven't changed much). The forks came with the bike and to start with i tried to use them for everything the bike was capable of but learnt pretty quickly that they are not to be used for "anything and everything"type riding. Now i only use them for not to rough XC racing and am getting some Maz EXR's for general riding around.

    Strengths:Very light, easy to adjust
    Weaknesses:Flex

Bike Setup:GT I-drive Team, full XTR, easton mg60 stem and carbond ct2 bar, syncros post and fi'zi:k saddle, Hugi240 hubs laced to Sun 0deg rims, ...
Bottom Line:I was a little sceptical about the Sid, but it came with the bike, so I thought I'ld give it a try. It really flexes, especially in corners and under braking. But it doesn't really bother me. It's a lot plusher than I had expected. I have set it with 12mm of sag (12mm sag is XC setting according to manual, 9mm is race setting) It sucks up the bigger hits, and still absorbs small vibrations (could be the mix of 2.0 tires, 28 spoke front wheel, carbon bar and sid fork)

Conclusion: I really like the ride, but am concerned about maintenance and lifespan (since it's really light)

I will post another review in a few months...

Bottom Line:Alright 6 months later and I'm back to tell ya this fork is awesome. I weigh 175 lbs, and this fork performs the best in XC mode. I beat the hell out of it and all I noticed was the thing gets a little squeaky, not that a little liquid teflon couldn't fix though. I like this fork and I'm simply waiting for another good day to ride.

Bottom Line:Welp, I really like the lightness of this fork. I bought it used from a friend who raced it 12 times. It is a little bit flexy when Im braking, but it isn't squirrely downhills. Overall, I like the fork. Of course it isn't super duper plush, it's an air fork, but it is good enough. It pays to get it overhauled once a year, and maintained in between. I find that the lightness really compliments the titanium ride, and the maneuverability over obstacles and when I'm tired is unmatched. If you are a heavy rider, forget it pal.

It's pricey but very worth it. I didn't however pay the 600 beans for it, so I'm really happy I got one brand new for half that. Similar Products Used:Judy XC, Judy SL, SID 100 and some more...
Bike Setup:Litespeed Pishah, Full XTR and RaceFace stuff.
Bottom Line:Most people I see complaining about this fork are usually using it for styles of riding for which it was not designed for. I'm sure many bought it thinking it was the top of the like race model and that should be good enough for anything. Wrong! Its light, and it has short travel to reduce bobing. Its meant for pure racing, not super plushness, heavy riders, or big jumpers. If your style of riding is anything other then buy a RS fork that is specifically designed for your style. That is after all why they make specific model forks for nearly every style of riding. As far as quality goes, mine has worked flawlessly. The chambers do not loose any pressure. I check them every 1-2 weeks and it is always right. Only rarely is it more than a few PSI's off when I check. Oh yeah, I'm a 165lbs rider if that helps.

I ignored this the first time it happended. I then rode the bike and noticed a clicking type noise after the shock moves about 10mm. I checked RockShox web site and the pressure drop problem seems to indicate blown seals. Oh, too bad, no one in town, has the seals, the special oil, or the special cartridge removal tool.

Bottom Line:It is a very light front suspension (2.5 lbs). My bike weights at 21.56 lbs (including pedals).

The only problem I have encountered so far is adjustment of air pressure in both + and - air chambers. The manual that comes with the suspension gives wrong pressure guide. It took me 2 weeks to realize it was wrong (a lot of hard work has been put into it to find out the exact pressure). I weight 75kg, according to the manual the pressure in the positive chamber should be arounf 130 lb/in. This was wrong and resulted in excessive sagging (50% of the travel). I got the correct presure from Rockshox's web site. The correct presure for my weight should be around 150 lb/in. This time the suspension feels much better.

There is another trick to it when adjusting the pressure. You MUST release all the air in the - air chamber first and pump air into the + chamber to the correct pressure then adjust the -.

Now the suspension is great, haveing the right sag of around 20-25% of the full travel.

It is an awseome shock. I wouldn't try a NORBA track without it. I love this thing. It just simply beats anything that everyone else has out of the water. The weight makes such a difference that your bike feels so light that it seems as if you have no front suspension at all. But when you get rolling, it is one of the most responsive shocks I have ever ridden. THIS THING ROCKS!!! I wish I could give it a 6- pepper rating for both categories!

I spend a lot of doe on this one, but now I know every cent was worth it. I cannot imagine there is a better airsuspension in the world. It is one of the lightest anyway.
It is almost as smooth as my old judy, more than one pound lighter.
So if your looking for a cross country race fork the SL and not the SID race should be weapon of choice. It is not really that much heavier (come on: it light like a fether) but comes with lockout! It is a great feature, whenever you're climbing or sprinting.
If you are heavy you might have broblems, since it is not all that strong. On sprints you hear the brakes scratching on the rims, also in some curves, but I had that problem with my other fork, too, and I only weight less than 130 lbs, so it's okay for me!

Go to your bike store and at least try it; cause it's worth at least a try :)

Bottom Line:REVIEW FOR SID SL 01'

I have the pleasure of owning two independent fabrications Deluxes.
I have been ridding for 5 years now and have tried alot of products. Last year my dream bike that I worked so hard to build was stolen. It was a Litespeed Telleco. Good old Allstate came threw for me and with the money I got I built up a brand new custom Independent Fabrication....
I went with an IF cause I already owned an IF single speed and loved it. The Single speed was set up with xtr lever,v-brakes and cranks, with king headset and hubs and a z2 atom 80. This bike is 3 years old and I love training on it.....
The new IF I build was geared and I tryied to make up for the weight of the discs by going with the lightest fork with a lockout, on the marked the Sid SL.

Great fork, it is plush and light weight and got my bike to the 23.5lbs with disc....The first think I noticed on the ride was on a descent at Gambrill, through a rock garden, I picked a path and hit it...the bike did not hold it's course. I thought it make be the bike but and the fact that it was new and I am not use to it....
Several rides later the problem continued. Now you can say that it could be the light king wheelset, or the frame or the way I ride....any you maybe right. But my single speed is almost the exact same set up except for disc brakes and gears...When I ride it I can simple point and shoot and the fork never goes estray....
So I liked this fork when I used it, it was responsive, easy to tune and very light weight. I changed over to a z2 xfly 01'...it is .5 lbs heavier but for my riding style I like it alot better...
Rockshock maked a great for but for my 170lb body, it is a little too bounce....
    see you on the trails

real weight is 2 lbs 11.5 ounces or 1236 grams or 3 1/2 ounces more than rock shox claims but with a cut steer tube im sure you can get it down to within the the 2 1/2 pound range if you have a very short headtube but over all it looks like a very good race for for 2001 from the ride in a parking lot and looks and price it gets a 4 stars for now

Strengths:First, I apologize, this review is really about the 2001 Rockshock Sid SL: It's smoother than the rest, (thanks to negative air spring), lockoutable with a quick adjust on compression and damping controls, bombproof suposedly
Weaknesses:It doesnt beat out a Headshock Ultra fatty as king of real world front Suspension effectiveness. I love the rail like ride of a Headshock.

Bottom Line:I work at a bikeshop, so im used to being around all types of bikes and equipment. It takes alot to amaze me. This shock had me in awe when I first pushed down on the front of the bike. I can see the shock compressing, but I cant feel it....except for a point of stiction before it moves. I just about drag people over to give the shock a push. If Stiction exists in its travel I cant feel it. It kicks all the competitions ass, yes, even Marzochis.
