    Favoriate Trail:dirt jumps
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:givin to me from friend
Strengths:I do mostly dirt jumping and urban assault with a few drops and the psylo works very well. Its got lots of adjustability-rebound, climb-it control(compression), u-turn travel adjust, and lockout. These are really fun to play with and actually make a difference in ride quality. The fork is really smooth and quiet and it doesnt make any thuds or squeaks, even when it bottoms out.
Weaknesses:The psylo is in desperate need of preload adjustment to stiffen the suspension or it needs stiffer aprings. I only weigh 105 lbs but it is still easy to bottom out the fork on small jumps or drops. The rebound adjuster is impossible to turn with hands(do I need a special tool?).
Similar Products Used:just looked at and compressed other forks at the shop
Bike Setup:2000 Specialized BigHit, Shimano, Sun Rims, Maxxis tires
Bottom Line:its a really smooth fork with lots of adjustments and great looks. I would reccommend this fork to aggressive trail riders and for light freeride and dirtjumping, but you will probably need stiffer springs if you are heavy or go really big on jumps or drops.

Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Price Paid: $300.00
Strengths:It worked for a few months...
Weaknesses:till the internals fell apart and Rock Shox took months to get it back to me.
Similar Products Used:my first suspention fork, came on my brodie
    Bike Setup:Brodie, hayes, Marzocchi
Bottom Line:I got my Brodie bike, was very happy with everything for the first month or so. Then out of nowhere the internals started to creak and act up. I sent it back and something inside was broken and they were cool enough to say it was a manufacturing defect so it only cost me shipping. The major downside is that it took for ever for me to get it back, so meanwhile I got a Marzocchi z2 and its just so much better that the psylo went on my beater ride. I have had no problems with it since but the most action it sees now is to get to school.
It is a nice fork but Rock Shox slow turnaround makes it NOT worth it.

Bottom Line:i wasnt really sure what to think of these forks when i first got them. i end up blowing the rebound on my stance flows and need a fork to replace them. so i got them for a guy for 80 buck then had a 20mm axle too. they came with x firm spring which where perfect for urban i havnt bottomed them out yet and i weight 250. i like these forks so much that i am not putting my stance flows back on my bike. these things weight like a 1.5 punds less then the stances. the only thing wrong with them is that there not very stiiff i can see the bottom of the fork move a little but not too bad. ill give it 5 flames for value and overall

    Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:Smooth out of the box. Relatively inexpensive. U-turn works well. Pure damping and lockout work well and are easy to adjust while riding.
Weaknesses:Dust wipers are poor quality, no oil seals, exceptionally fast bushing wear. No preload adjust. (I'm too light for med springs and too heavy for light springs).
    Similar Products Used:old Mag's and Judy's, Marzocchi Z5 and X-Fly, Mars C
    Bike Setup:Sugar 2
Bottom Line:worked well for the 1st few rides, then bushing play developed after ~20 hrs riding. Exceptionally difficult to change bushings-- nobody local will work on any Rock Shox anymore and their service sucks. Great performance if you plan to buy a new shock every year. I'm never buying a Rock Shox again.

Strengths:These forks are super dooper, the Climb-IT control is awesome allowing you to change from 80-125mm travel while just riding along, they suit my XC bike brilliantly, i ride XC about once a month and these forks are just amazing, awesome small bump sensitivity, and quite good hard hit sensitivity( i have bottomed them out a couple of times though) They work better with V's rather than discs as they are quite flexy with discs.
Weaknesses:flexy when using discs, crown bonding isn't amazing

Bottom Line:I haven't heard of this happening before, but on my Psylo SL, the steerer tube loosed up, and would let the fork spin when I hit a rock or bump. The steerer didn't pull out of the fork, it just would move, and other than that it was functionally sound. I fixed it by drilling a hole through the steerer & crown, and running a small bolt though the steerer. Since the bolt only stops the steerer from twisting, it has held up just fine. I just wanted to let anyone know how to fix this problem if it ever occurs to anyone else. I like the fork otherwise, and it has performed very well. I got mine cheap to replace a 2002 Psylo XC that failed. The SL is a good fork, but there are better forks(marzocchi) availible for the same retail price.

Weaknesses:I blew the compression and the rebound on this fork within 600 miles (1000 KMs) of riding. This fork might be better for lighter riders.

There was also a bushing issue with some of these forks, but Rock Shox has made a free upgrade available to correct this problem.

    Bike Setup:2001 GT i-Drive 2.0. stock
Bottom Line:This fork has potential to be a very decent fork. The first thing i would recommend is making sure you get the right springs for your weight put inside the fork. The fork came stock with the light springs. I'm about 200lbs. and just bunnyhopping and pushing down on the front of the fork i was able to bottom it out. It amazes me that a veteran company, also the very first company to start manufacuring forks can't seem to get it right. I mean a bushing problem. C'mon man it seems like they don't even give these forks any sufficent R&D time or proper testing. Rockshox has it's light cross country forks and then they have their freeride and downhill forks. C'mon guys you have to make stuff that's gonna hold up to the abuse the fork is intended for. No wonder they went out of business. Now maybe SRAM can pick up the pieces and start making some reliable forks.

Bottom Line:I just wanted to add that my fork is pretty much the same as the 2002 psylo sl, the differences are that it doesn't have u-turn adjustability. I wouldn't really need the u-turn feature anyway because I never change my travel. I'd rather flip my stem negative rise for better climbing, and still have my preload adjuster [the '02 u-turns don't have preload control]. Actually the only thing I like of the '02 psylos are the brakeboss-less lower leg castings. Ooooh so nice! Maybe I can retrofit some new lowers :)

Bottom Line:When I first got the fork, last year [i am reviewing again] the fork was surprisingly VERY smooth out of the box. This is because the bushings were loose. Every ride a few months after the purchase the bushings became very loose, and the fork would shudder under hard braking. I sent the fork back to the RockShox distributor for Canada [Cycle Lambert] and they warrantied the fork for me. They gave me a new crown, new stanchions, new seals, new bushings, new oil and new dampers. Basically half a new fork. The only downside is that it had a 1.5 month turnaround time, I was aching to ride again!

But I suppose it was worth it. The fork is much more solid and is still very smooth in it's travel stroke. Fore-aft flexing is gone, if not very minimal. I give two thumbs up to this fork and five stars now that I have all new internals + crown and stanchions!

People who should look into this fork are riders with freeride type of styles or even aggressive xc. I have my raceface stem flipped negative rise and it works absolutely perfect with the lock-out on this fork during long climbs. A definite recommendation.

    Similar Products Used:Mag 10, Zokes
Bottom Line:I bought my 2001's new but didnt set them up until a few months ago. I bought the retro kit which allows external travel adjustment like the 2002. Admittedly I havent had a lot of time with them but they seem really strong. I weigh 250 and trash stuff just by looking at it. I have a couple hundred Km's on them and they are fine. They do have slight play in the stanchions out of the box. This play gets worse the more travel you dial in but it doesnt affect the travel of the fork or the ride at all. The lock out on mine works but it is possible for me to compress the fork while the lockout is on by putting some moderate pressure on the fork. Im a big guy though so this doesnt surprise me. My Z1's are a much more plush and active fork but not designed for x country. I really like these forks. Ill post when I have a bunch of Kms on them and see if they hold up.

Bottom Line:This is a great fork. It came on my Bullit as an OEM piece. It's got a compression lockout that works, but I never use it. I ride about 3 times a week and I bomb the downhills pretty good, using every bit of the 5 inch travel. I've punished this fork for 7+ months and have had none of the problems that others seemed to have had.

I did have one problem with it but I'm going to have to blame the LBS. I weighed 220 lbs when I got the Bullit but the standard spring in the fork is only rated for riders up to 180 lbs. To set the proper sag the LBS cranked up the preload. The spring lasted about 2 months before breaking. The LBS replaced the spring for one that fits my weight and the fork's been fine ever since. If they had just done that in the first place (they did put the proper spring on the rear shock) I would not have had the problem.

I ride hard and I don't really spend the time maintaining my bike like I should but the Psylo works awesome. I would definately buy another one of these.

Strengths:Lock out works well. convient on the fly adjustment.it has five inches of travel and it bottems rareley.the lock out can be used as compression dampening also .
Weaknesses:S*tty bushings. this fork had loose bushings the day i put it together. the slop has progresed slowly but here in november it is still rideable. when it snows i will send it in.it is a single sided sprung 5" travel fork, that is just dumb.it has poor dampening adjustment and ok preload.
Similar Products Used:Judy T2 it was ok at the time
Zoke 99 z2 alloy great fork. did everything and anything on it.
Bike Setup:scwhinn 01 sixer.ryno lites tioga treads. the stock fork.
Bottom Line:its a five inch travel fork.single sided, that is dumb it needs to be double sprung with double preload adjustments. it is no match for the z1 which is in my future.

Weaknesses:the bushings went after a few weaks so rock shox replaced them for me and sent me 2002 versions of them which was nice

    Strengths:-Smoothe travel stroke--Sucks-up big hits
    -Ajustability--Works well in crappy weather
    -Look mean!--Lockout
Weaknesses:Almost have to disassemble to change travel, could be stiffer
    Similar Products Used:Bombers, Manitous . . .
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Chameleon, Race Face stuff, King, XT, Psylo(duh)
Bottom Line:So far I'm very pleased with this fork. I've ridden for about a total of 5 hours on it (I know, not alot) and it seems to be a high preformer from RS. I took out in the pouring rain for a ride, ran it through the mud, the guck, a creek, and beat it around. and it still felt smoothe, and the seals kept the crap out. so far, so good :o)

    Will update as needed!!

Bottom Line:this is a follow up on an earlier review. the folks in holland repaired my rs psylo. the pure damper doesn't loose any oil anymore but there is still alot of bushing play, now i'm waiting for the new 2002 bushings which are way longer so bushingplay will be over soon.
i do like the fork cause when you're riding along on your favourite trail you'll not notice the play. it works perfectly.
