$100.00 | | Purchased At: | Ebay | | Strengths: | This fork is great once it's dialed in. It's pretty light. Tracks great, is ALMOST as smooth as butter. Rebound adjustment is nice. It looks cool. | | Weaknesses: | It took me a while to get dialed in but since it has been adjusted I couldn't be more happy with it for the price that I paid. | | Similar Products Used: | Marzocchi, SID, tried my buddy's fox (sweet). | | Bike Setup: | Set up for XC racing: 2005 Trek 8500 frame 2002 Psylo Race Avic BB7 disc brakes Bontrager Race Lite bars XT Shifters Chris King headset XT (F&R)derailleurs XT crankset Eggbeater SL pedals Mavic Crossmax SL wheelset Panaracer fire xc pro (tubeless) | | Bottom Line: | Awesome fork for the price that you can get it at now. This is my favorite fork that I've ever owned. It is not on par with FOX, but it is a 2001 remember and for what it is it performs better than I expected it to. I bought this fork to hold me off until I could afford a FOX F80x but now that I've got it dialed in I think I'm going to keep it for a bit longer now.
Value - 5 chilis because of the price it can be found for now. Overall - 4 just because it's not the best out there but it's pretty dang good. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$349.00 | | Purchased At: | Cambria | | Strengths: | Light 5" travel fork Air allows wide range of rider weights without needing to buy springs Good damping response No air leaks | | Weaknesses: | Rebound adjustment doesn't allow fast enough rebound More difficult to work on than Marzocchi | | Similar Products Used: | 2003 Z1 FR 2001 SID | | Bike Setup: | 1999 Diamondback XR4 with lots of upgrades Hope M4 Disc brake w/ 185mm rotor (front only) | | Bottom Line: | This review is for the 2002 Psylo Race non-Tullio. It is a very good shock and replaced an 85mm travel SID on my DBR. The weight difference is really minor but the performance improvement was significant. After 2 years I was getting oil blow-by on the XXX seals (note, it was not leaking air or oil from the "pure" system, but the oil-bath lubrication was pushing out of the seals on big hits. I stripped it down, cleaned and refilled it today and was impressed with how little wear was apparant on the internal components. I've ridden about 1000 miles on this shock without an oil-change, which is about 3 times as far as I go on my Marz. The only parts that needed to be replaced were the oil seals and I replaced those with Enduro's. Now that this bike is my spare, I'm guessing it will be at least 2 more years before I need to do anything to the shock again.
I really think that the people who've had leaks must have dirt in their valves and/or something wasn't tight on the shock, mine has never lost any air that I've noticed, even when it sat for 4 months over the winter it still had 160lbs in both chambers. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$500.00 | | Purchased At: | Helens | | Strengths: | 20mm tullio Q.R. is fast. Very adjustable. | | Weaknesses: | The fork cannot achieve 125mm travel, it is impossible while assembled. Plastic threads and knobs. Slightly flexy. Oil leakage on front disc rotor. Pressure loss. Lots of care. Repair takes about 2.5 - 3 weeks from shipping to receiving. Everyone that you talk to at Rock Shox will have a different idea, solution and opinion. | | Similar Products Used: | zoke z1 2001 20mm thru axle | | Bike Setup: | 2001 Santa Cruz Bullit,XTR,Hayes,Race Face | | Bottom Line: | This fork physically cannot get 125mm of travel while assembled. This is false advertising. If you dont believe me put a zip tie on one leg. Push it down, go 4 a hard ride. Measure the distance from seal to crown. Sure, if you release all the air. Or on a SL take the spring out of the crown mechanically it will have 125mm, but how the hell can you ride a fork like that. If you like to tinker its perfect. If you want 4" of travel, great. If you dont mind losing your fork for 2.5 - 3 weeks and also pay for the shipping you are in luck. The bottom line is to convert to u-turn, ditch the air. And before assembling very carefully cut out, in thin slices the green elastomer hidden in the spring ( you must uncrimp a spring otherise). This company is no bueno, its my first and last purchase with these fools. Once converted to the spring (more $) i'm much happier but not satisfied. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

On some of the earlier units the pure dampner seals leak oil. | | Similar Products Used: | Manitou Mars and Manitou Black Elite | | Bike Setup: | Weyless single pivot, Hope Mini Disks, XT/XTR mix | | Bottom Line: | I bought this on sale at Supergo. This is an excellent front shock. Great adjustability, good travel very little stiction. I'm 5'11" 190# and have yet to bottom out this shock. At first the shock would bob somewhat using RS setup but, then with a little ajustment to the postive air spring no problem! Mine is the white version with no canti mounts (disk brake only). Installing the Hope Mini Disks to the fork could not have been easier. This fork is perfect for a Dual suspension frame with a rear air shock (mine has a RS SID XC) the two air shock complement each other. Any one using this setup for cross country or even free ride would be satisfied with its performance. If you purchase one check for signs that the pure dampner is leaking oil first before you buy it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

You better like shock oil cause it's gonna get messy when you service it! | | Bike Setup: | ScottUSA Team Racing, fork run in 100 mm setting. | | Bottom Line: | I mostly do xc but also some serious jumping and urban freeriding and this fork can do it all. Its light enough for the xc and strong enough for the more abusive riding. And the adjustability! I love that fact that I'm able to easily tune the fork for all my riding. If I'm gonna go jumping I just bump up the positive pressure and increase compression damping. For xc, just remove some positive air pressure and decrease compression. Plus, when properly set, it feels virtually bottomless. I have yet to feel the need for the 125mm mode, 100mm soaks up everything.

The only problem that I have with this shock is that I feel that I have less control because it's so high (longer travel). I ran into a couple of trees my first time using it. Maybe it takes a little getting used to.

from Colorado Date Reviewed: June 26, 2001 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | Performance... this shock never bottoms out on me and feels super plush | | Weaknesses: | Two days ago I blew out the climb it control compression damping. I was climbing so I had the compression up maybe 2/3 came over a roller and when I came down from maybe 1.5 feet of air I felt the fork kind of let go internaly and after that there was no damping left, the fork started topping out and was very soft. | | Bottom Line: | Great performance, I just hope that this will be a quick fix and is not a reaccuring problem. This fork has taken some really hard hits in the previous three months with the climb it control quite low. But be careful when it is turned up because mine blew out on a tiny hit. A fork that costs this much should handle this circumstance, or Rock Shox should at least warn the user not to do this. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
