$500.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | Easy to pull down and rebulid - stiff. | | Weaknesses: | Unlike others below - none really. | | Similar Products Used: | RS Judy | | Bike Setup: | XC dualie | | Bottom Line: | I've had these since new in '99 - that's four years of flogging, and I've only now blown a cartridge. In that time I've run Lizard Skin boots - that get whipped off and cleaned regularly, and pulled the forx down for a bath every 40hrs or so - per spec. They *always* come out clean. The comment below about the spring retaining cap being a tight fit is sopt on - I shaved mine. I also added brass washers to the lower bolts - replacing the hollow one with a solid one - and run 15mm of motor oil in each leg for wetbath lube.
I expect to get the cartridge fixed - and ride on these for some years yet. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$400.00 | | Purchased At: | Special deal | | Strengths: | Friggin' rules. Tracks with no flex. Deep plush travel. I love it. | | Weaknesses: | Stanchions are so beefy and rad they can be difficult to mount to an overhead car rack. | | Similar Products Used: | I think I have ridden practically every fork out there. I guess I hang out in too many bike shops. | | Bike Setup: | On a Schwinn Sweet spot dialed out to the max. I love it. | | Bottom Line: | Man, I know there's already 50 plus reviews on this fork, and I actually read them all. Endless problems, blown seals...man. I had to write this because this fork has treated me SO well. First of all, it rides nicer than anything out there. No, it's not the lightest, but if you want a lighter fork you start to sacrifice things like stiffness and burliness. I want a buff reliable fork and I got one. For the weight this thing rides incredibly fat.
As per everyone's problems I'm bummed. My fork has been serviced once in two years. I have ridden it all over Utah in the dirt and grime and dust and cactus. I have ridden all over Oregon and the decomposed granite and mud and gank to no end. Hell, I drove from Oregon to Colorado and all over Utah with the bike on top of my car in the rain and the dust storms. The seals have held. The cartridge has never done me wrong even when bombing all over Slickrock for 3 days and countless other abuses. I have NEVER felt a cartridge in any fork that felt so bad ass as this one. Basically it's been perfect, I have scarcely serviced it, and I have ridden it for thousands of miles. I must be the luckiest mo-fo out there. Bottom line is I love this fork. Now I'm freaked, I hope I haven't mojo'd myself in any bad way.
Man, I gotta give it 5 flamin' chilis 'cuz it rules like no other fork I've known. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Muddy conditions (most of the time here) require cleaning and greasing every couple of rides. Oversize stanchions prevent use of boots from other brands. Seals occasionally pop out of lower legs during rides, making matters even worse. Bushing and stanchion wear result. Measured travel is always a bit less than 90mm advertised. Shaving a bit of material off the outer diameter of the plastic spring seats made travel much smoother; seemed like they were almost a press fit originally.
On the plus side, these are really stiff forks laterally, steering precision compares to Cannondale headshock. Good match to Ellsworth rear travel. No cartridge problems as reported by other reviewers. But sealing problems outweigh pluses to me; would recommend only if you live in a dry climate. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

It was light and fairly smooth, but never bottomed. In fact, it bobbed the least of any fork I have had under hard pedaling. The only problem was that it required constant greasing of the stanction tubes, if you do not do this it seems to me that the fork gets a little sticky and performance goes down. The Customer Service department is so-so b/c it took them almost two weeks to get me riding again for a simple cartridge that blew after 500 mi. of riding. The forks now have 700 mi. on them and I am trying Marazocchi Z1 forks, which are heavier, but hopefully will require less maintenance. It is a good fork, but I can't guaranty the quality. My forks are still working with no other problems to date and you may see me with them on my bike again. Smooth Action. No energy robbing bob. | | Weaknesses: | So far so good. Innards remain clean. | | Similar Products Used: | Mag 20, 21 Judy XC, DH Manitou SXR | | Bike Setup: | Chuck CRFS | | Bottom Line: | I can't ask for much more. It stays smooth and quiet at slow speeds. Between 15 and 25mph it shines. Taking the stairsteps down the Amasa Back jeep trail last weekend, everything felt like a happy little rails to trails ride. No ramping or excess diving. I have the dampening screwed in about half way with the reservoir using 5 weight oil. Just recently, I dropped the outer sliders off and all was still clean, glossy, and lubed. The upper seals seem to be doing a good job, but Colorado riding doesn't generally stress seals. I do wipe off the upper stanchions routinely. Lizard Fork skins don't quite wrap around the oversize uppers or they would be permanently on despite the wipers. Maybe the rear shock lizard skins have a wider diameter that would work. The only other single crown high performance choice out there right now seems to be the Z1 Bam, but I'd like to avoid the weight on my already marginally weighty, but awesome Chuck. In addition, I'm not too excited about the slow speed overplushness of the otherwise bulletproof Z1. I am nervous about SC90 reviews that keep revisiting blown cartridges and poor customer service. Hasn't happened yet, hopefully a little preventive maintenance and already knowing how to rebuild cartridges from my old custom Judy will keep me fairly self sufficient. At least I can limp home on the coil springs if needed. The shop from which I bought it hasn't heard any trouble, which makes me happy. Riding with anxiety about my equipment's reliability is definitely a bummer. Give me the summer to wring it out some more...the high mileage death rides are yet to come.Right now I'd give it 4 chilis for it's unique one off looks, performance, and serviceability. The lost chili is because I'm making myself anxious waiting for it to die. | Overall Rating: |

I have been riding this fork snce it was first introduced and have had NONE of the problems that I have read about in the other reviews. I can hardly wait for the UL90's to come out they are supposed to peal a HALF POUND OFF the SC 90 weight!!! That along with my Mora-Ti Crank wil bring my El Fuego down to 22.25 lbs!!! Not bad full a dually with over 3 inches of travel. White Bros has ALWAYS been excellent to deal with (with me anyways). I purchased this fork to equal out the ride of my full suspension bike. I had installed a FSTI palmer model to make an attempt to match the 4 of rear travel on my bike. The manitou didn't have the claimed travel, so i ordered a SC90 because the claimed weight of the fork was 3.4 pounds (from White Brothers) with 90 mm of travel. I got the fork in, pulled it out of the box, and thought the fork felt heavy. I promptly weighed it on a accurate digital scale. The fork weighed 4.3 pounds!!! I then was told that the weight was measured with a cut steerer tube (they didn't say the length ) and no oil in the fork!! Who rides their bike with no oil in the damn fork? Needless to say, i sent the fork back the next day. Which company is worse: White Brothers for fibbing about the weight, or Manitou for fibbing about claimed travel? | Overall Rating: |

I have been riding this fork for 6 months, 4 times a week. My trails are steep techinal, fast singletrack. I switched from a Marzoke Atom bomb which I loved and is a great fork. The first thing I noticed was how for a 4 travel fork, this baby is stiff as hell. Its also lighter than the atom bomb. The extra 1 travel makes all the diffrence in the rough stuff. This fork is so stiff and stable. The first time I took it apart I noticed how simple the design is. Like my 97 Judy SL, but on Steriods. This thing is beefie and light. I would recomend it to any cross crountry rider. | Overall Rating: |

bought one for $500! back in june. put it on LTS-1000. my 250# works this thing and it(or God) has saved me on multiple occassions. i think i could also dig that 130mmZoke w/the 20mm axle. i used the included hd springs and the butter stuff extensively. no spring preload. top caps have loosened before. i just check them before each ride and keep them real snug(w/ fingers). thing looks hellacool too. 5 bones. | Overall Rating: |

I was so stoked when I mounted this fork on my full suspension Ellsworth and the plushness alone was awesome. Then I went for a ride and only after an hour the dam thing started leaking oil out of the bottom drop out on the disc mount side. I got right on the phone to the mailorder company I purchased it from and explained my situation. I sent the fork to them and they fixed the leaking problem(without a bike for a week!!!!!) Today went out for a short ride and the piece of shit blew the top seal on the right fork leg exposing the inner fork leg to all the dirt and mud!! I'm so pissed, even though the fork was working well, the quality of this fork sucks the big one. I will be on the phone tomorrow to WB to voice my concern and ship the piece back to them. I'm only 160 pounds and was only riding flat single track when these two incidents occured. Buy a Bomber and leave the WB SC90 in the trash unless you enjoy a product that will leave you bikeless until you make the right fork purchase. I'm giving the piece of shit two chilies, one for looks and the other before you actually go on your ride. | Overall Rating: |
