It was not designed for 5-10 foot dropoffs. It IS poorly damped and non-adjustable. It will bottom out. $30.00 | | Purchased At: | two wheeler dealer | | Strengths: | 1 1/8 threadless steerer tube, is softer than a rigid fork, is 10 years old and still holds me up. | | Weaknesses: | little adjustment, very flexy, bright yellow paint, | | Bike Setup: | trek 820 steel frame, mavic 221 rims shimano hubs, avid single digit 7 V-brake, setup single speed | | Bottom Line: | i wanted to try the whole single speed thing out. it is flat where i live so it is very easy and alot less hassle than a geared bike. i still ride both though. i found a frame in the trash in good shape and needed a fork to finish my project. my local shop had a RS indy SL hanging on the wall in the back room. they sold it to me for 30 bux. i ride pretty hard, and i push my equipment past the point of the average weekend rider. the trails around my home a very rooty and alot of stress is put into this fork. if i were to crash because of this fork, i will know that it was unable to handle what i was doing. anyone that rides as hard as i don on a product such as this should take into consideration the level of punishment it can withstand. i know this fork is older technology but if you are looking for a cheap fork that softens up the front end just enough to take the edge off, then this fork will be fine. if you ride hard, jump, or push the limits of a 10 yearold product then you will be sorry. in the end, know what is under you, and respect what it can do. dont be stupid and expect more than it was designed for. i tried a fully rigid 29er and could not take the stiffness. so when i built my single speed i just wanted a little cush. this fork gave me what i expected. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

This is also probably the reason why my fork is slightly out of alignment.
I simply don't understand how such a big company like rock shox can stop the production of such an ordinary piece of rubber which is 15.5 cm long and that has a diameter of 1.8cm. Is it because they ran out of yellow rubber?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? IT'S A MYSTERY!!!!!

12 inches of travel and undestructible seals and legs??? Just don't ride that fork if you jump from the house roof or race on railroad track every week.
These forks are VERY good for newcomers in the mountain bike world. I was very pleased with mine and i used it for it's intended use: Light mountain riding. When you're ready for more serious riding, simply get a fork that will give you satisfaction for what you want to do.

No real complants till the fork legs started weaving all over the place and the frok fill up with sludge-yes sludge after one ride. Then after about two months of riding I wore right through the stanchion tubecovering and soon through the hole stanchion tube!!! since this shock only has one spring in it (it's in the left-and only in the left) and was paired with a cheap hub the fork kind of well bent to the right. I bunny hopped a small log and the fork blew apart when I landed. The caps flew out and gave me a nice welt on my chest while the rest of the internal components fell out of the fork.
