Strengths:This frame is rock solid from the welds to the pivots and the rear derailleur hanger... Just to give you an idea, I actually rode about 15 miles with BOTH of the hanger bolts completely gone (I have since gotten replacements and tightened them with some lock-tite!) and I didn't even notice until after I had gotten home. The bike is suprisingly nimble, and rolls well especially in the downhill where it truly inspires. The componentry on this bike is above it's price range, with the 185mm avid discs, the WTB rims, the Manitou suspension parts, and shimano XT everything else being the highlights.
Weaknesses:The Weyless seatpost, stem, and handlebars (the handlebars especially are too wide...) work great, but I could not get them to stop squeaking.
Similar Products Used:Specialized FSR
Bike Setup:Weyless XP frame, WTB stem, handlebars, rims, saddle, and seatpost, Chris King Headset, Avid mechanical discs, Truvativ cranks, weyless pedals, XT derailleurs, Manitou minute/swinger...
Bottom Line:As mentioned in the weaknesses I've since replaced the stem, handlebars (Where I got a 22 inch with much less rise), and seatpost with WTB gear, which isn't really a noticeable upgrade but now it's sqeak free. I also had some problems with the minute fork about a month after I got the bike, which I got fixed from manitou rather quickly (except I didn't get my headset race back@ but it gave me a good excuse to get a king...) One other note, the WTB mutanos are great tires with loads of grip, but I still would replace them for something a little lighter and with less rolling resistance... Too bad they don't make it anymore.

Strengths:simple single pivot design, no flex, 12mm rear end super stiff.
Weaknesses:spv 4 way coil sucks, sucks, did I say SUCKS!!
Similar Products Used:Yeti ASX great bike but it too had Manipoo shock which also SUCKS!!
Bike Setup:Pike 140 coil, king headset, sram X9 kit, shimano lx (07) crankset, hope hubs on singletrack rims, Fox DHX air 5.0 shock, Kenda Nevegals 2.3, thompson cockpit, avid 8" brakes.
Bottom Line:When my brother and I first invested in this rig it weighed a hefty 43lbs and now after some serious improvements it is down to 35.5lbs and is a fun trail/free ride bike. I will be putting a larger fork later on this year. A Marzocchi 66SL 1 ATA 140/180 and the bike will be complete................ahhh. This bike comes alive with an air can especially the Fox dhx air and a lighter strong for too. I have ridden some epic rides on this burly bike some rides exceeding 50miles with 4000ft elevation gain. I am a large fellow at 230lbs and 6ft 6in tall. The Weyless 67 is too small so it is cramped but it is a fun descender and rails the corners fabulously when it is dialed in. Now remember folks put a fox shock on it and an air fork with a 20mm axle and this bike comes ALIVE!!

Purchased At:Supergo/Performance
Strengths:Lighter than other bikes in the price range.
Weaknesses:Cable routing could be better. I have had to wrap up my lines to prevent chaffing but still not helping much. The 5th element that came with it, well I had it serviced, now it leaks a little after each ride.
Similar Products Used:GT avalanche, 90's Specialized Super V
Bike Setup:Weyless XP, Shimano LX crank, LX Front derailer, LX rear derailer, XT 12-34 Cassette, LX rapid fire shifter, Hayes Nine Hydro's with 6" rotors, Deore/Sun Single track rims, Manitor R7 100mm fork and the stock 5th element.
Bottom Line:My 2nd full suspension bike, big difference going from Spring/Air shock to full air suspension. Most of the heavy bumps are gone. I'm a Clyde at 6' 220lbs but I manage pretty well. The bike climbs really well, suprising a lot of other guys on more expensive bikes. Going downhill is a bit scary sometimes, have to tighten rear end before going down or it gets a bit jumpy. But overall I am very impressed. Have read many reviews and after riding mine for 2 1/2 years I'd say I'm very happy with it. I bought the frame and built up my own bike. Would/Could have been cheaper to buy one prebuilt but thats no fun, as I get someone elses picks for components. Gets 4 chillies for overall as I'm not comfy with the cable routing.

Strengths:5 in. travel, durable, cheap, climbs well, dwonhills well.
Weaknesses:paint chips easily,
Similar Products Used:none, i have ridden other dual suspension bikes, but never owned one.
Bike Setup:Shimano XT, Avid disks, basic componetry.
Bottom Line:This is the best bike i have ever ridden. i have had very little trouble with it. It descends very well and climbs easily. The five inches give it a very soft ride and allow for more drops and what not. Fairly light for a trailbike, around 30 lbs. This bike is good for anyone looking for some extra travel in a durable bike, great for anyone who wants a real trailbike.

Had to get the shock rebuilt after one year of riding because it blew a seal, then only about 2 months later, I sheared the swingarm just ahead of the drive side dropout by doing a 2.5 ft drop. Bottom Line:Although this frame comes with an answer swinger 4way coil I still feel that the frame would come alive with a Fox DHXair. About 90% of the kit has been changed but the bike still rocks. It weighs in around 38lbs so it is a heavy hitting descender. I love this bike it is a blast to ride.

Duration Product Used:1 Year

Purchased At:supergo westminster
Strengths:A great bike for the money; parts alone will cost more than the entire bike. I really like the geometry of the bike, and fork. Handles technical climbs well, and rails single track on the down hill. Its really a good trail bike.
Weaknesses:The wheels aren't so hot (WTB speed disc). I just noticed that the front wheel was not laced properly, and is rubbing my brake caliper. The skewers and seatpost collar will be replaced as well.
Bike Setup:Pretty much stock except for Juicy 5 brakes, a shorter stem (80 mil. which made a huge* difference in the ride), ODI ruffians, and Kenda Nevegal 2.3s.
Bottom Line:After having ridden this bike hard for the last year I have to say its holding up well. I live in Denver and ride the front range alot...this means alot of technical climbing and descending. I've also ridden the bike on most of the trails in Fruita and Grand Junction, as well as a few in Moab, and would describe my riding style as aggressive trail riding. I was a little hesitant to buy a house brand, but the price was way better than anything else that compared spec wise, no pun intended.

This bike really fits in nicely in the trail category. It pedals well uphill; I don't notice any bob unless I'm out of the seat hammering. It handles the techy climbs well, and I've made sections that I've seen xc guys will walk.

I'm definately a fan of lowering the fork for the climb and raising it back up and dropping the seat for the descents. Going down is super fun on this bike, and when slacked out it handles the bumps well. It's fairly nimble and tracks well in the turns. This bike will give you perma grin on fast flowy single track.

Resort riding should probably be left for the big bikes, but I've taken a few larger drops with it as well. The only time I've been concerned about the bike is after hearing the *ping* of the bike bottoming out on a 5 foot drop to flat (which I knew would be close to the limit of the bike). But that's the only time I've bottomed it out, and I like to jump :)

I changed out the stem for a shorter one, and I think this was the best move I could have made. It went from akward xc streched out, to comfy trail bike. The bike became much more stable at speed, and although it became a little less stable on the climbs, it really made the feel of the cock pit alot better. I also changed out the Avid mechs for Juicy 5's which I really like alot. I liked and was happy with the adjustablity of the mechs, I just got a smoking deal on the 5's and couldn't pass on the upgrade.

There are a some things that I would like to change out however, mostly the wheels. Then the headset, skewers and seat post collar, but overall its a great value for the money. The Minute one is a good fork, but occasionally feels kinda spikey on the speed bumps, and a buddy has blown the seals on his twice. I'd like to try a Marzocchi All Mountain 1 on the bike, but can't really justify the cost.

I haven't had any major problems with the bike which is saying alot as I've really ridden it hard in the year I've had it. Its a great trail bike for a rider on a budget and if you're like me you'll slowly replace the weak links as they break. Too bad Supergo isn't selling them any more, guess you'll have to spend the extra cash for a Heckler...

ps. The hanger is $30 if you think you're gonna bend it.

Strengths:Great frame, excellent price, brakes are strong, descents are plush, and best of all, it climbs like a beast.
Weaknesses:Brakes squeak a little (after cleaning them), and paint chips off easier if you get the powder coated model.
Similar Products Used:Trek 820 Singletrack series.
Bike Setup:Stock, except for new shimano clipless pedals.
Bottom Line:My uncle is a huge mountain biker, so when I moved out to California, I asked if he had any preferences for a nice full suspension mountain bike. After awhile I got a reply and he preferred the Weyless XP. I asked him how much, he said $1,249 for the complete bike. I couldn't pick my jaw off the floor once i saw the bike, (and the price tag too.) So after I spent the money, i took it out on the trails it handles well, takes drops, is light weight, which i liked because my trek was above 40lbs. Most of all I liked how it climbed. Most people told me that full suspensions don't climb that well, and well I believed them, until i took this thing up a 8-9% grade and there was no bobbing. Sorry for going on and on, well the bottom line is buy it, try it, and love it.

Strengths:Pretty good components for the money- Deore/ Deore XT drivetrain, Manitou SPV Shock and Fork(Swinger 3-way,Minute 1:00) Truvative ISIS Crankset, Avid Mech discs, etc.
Weaknesses:Crappy WTB speeddisc wheelset. Replaced with DEORE XT Disc/ Rhino Lite Wheelset... much better.

Weak frame; I broke it...twice. I sheared the non driveside dropout off of the swingarm at the point where the seat stay and chainstay meet, and now I cracked the frame at the front of the rear shock mount. Supergo didn't ask any questions and just replaced the swingarm at no charge. The new swingarm has a gusset where I broke it, so perhaps this was a common problem. I'm taking the bike in tomorrow to see what they say about the cracked frame. Hopefully they will happily replace it under warranty like they did the swingarm. I'm definitely a clydesdale, but not into jumps and big drops. I've never taken this bike off of anything much bigger than an 18" drop, so I'm a bit disappointed by the failures.
Similar Products Used:None- saw thge price and the component specs and couldn't pass it up.
Bike Setup:Deore/ Deore XT drivetrain, Manitou SPV Shock and Fork(Swinger 3-way,Minute 1:00) Truvative ISIS Crankset, Avid Mech discs, etc.
Bottom Line:Clydesdales and wet weather riders beware;

The WTB hubs are definitely laxking in the bearing seal dept and while I ride agressively, I'm not a jumper, so I don't feel the frame should have suffered two failures. Even with the cost of the wheel upgrade, the bike is still a pretty good value, if you won't be too hard on it.

The front and rear hubs lasted a little more than 3 months for 5 day/ week riding in fairly wet/ muddy conditions before the bearings got noisy. I tacod the front wheel before I was able to kill the wheelset completely.

I whish more bike mfg's would follow the example. Its a perfect trail bike. I love showing up for rides with guys with big name bikes and watching their suspension bob on the climbs. I love passing them on the DH even more, especially after they talk for hours about how great their new VPP whatever that cost them 1800 for the frame alone. They never talk about my bike at the trailhead, but when the rides over, I always get asked how much I paid for it..... Why is that?

Bottom Line:I love this bike aside form all the creaking the pivot makes. No one else comments on it, so maybe just my bike? Supergo said creaking due to dirt, they relubed pivot twice and creaking was less, but came back in full after 2 rides. They then said to tear apart and relube every 30 days! Creaking only happens when really getting on the pedals (read uphill), but I am getting used to it. Other than that the bike is great, handles like a dream and I have yet to find the bottom of the suspension. SPV chamber in rear shock so small, it is hard to get the right amount of air in it. Avid breaks work like nothing else, but I am coming from V breaks. They make a little noise, but generally only when they get really hot. It might sound like I am down on the bike, but I'm not just tring to be unbiased.

Strengths:Great single pivot frame with a 5th element air shock. Welds are nice, beefy rear dropout/derailer hanger. Good geometry. Not too heavy. GREAT price.
Weaknesses:paint chips easily - I chipped mine taking it out of the box. But they do send along a little bottle of touch up paint.

Bottom Line:I really like this XP frame. I set it up with mid-level parts and tried to stick to a budget. The price on this frame is unbelievable with the 5th element shock. After dialing in the rear shock for my weight and riding style it rides pretty much bob free and still super plush over bumps and hits.
I have always like the Santa Cruz Heckler and this bike seems to be its lower priced twin. Not to heavy to pedal all day on the trail, but not afraid of the rougher bigger stuff.
I think this bike is for anyone who wants a great value. A great frame if you don't care if your bike is from a custom shop or high end/ high dollar bike company. A good XC bike if you build it up light or an "all mountain" or trail bike if you build it up a bit stronger.
The geometry of this frame is spot on and it handles very well in sweeping single track as well as bombing down hills. It climbs very well due to the 5th element shock.
Supergo has been easy to deal with in customer service. Two phone calls got me a replacement shock mounting bolt kit and a rear dropout.
The frame has held up very well and rides great. The Easton RAD tubing is light and strong and the rear swing arm is stiff and tracks true. 5 stars in value (best value of the year) and overall outstanding rating.
If you are thinking about this frame but not sure then let my review convince you.

Strengths:I purchased the frame only from Supergo. Fifth element air shock has great adjustability.Five inches of rear travel is great for riding around pisgah. The frame is very stout;massive head tube junction;good welds. Ease of setup with the 5th element.
Weaknesses:The only weakness I've found is the paint.Flakes real easy, but nothing that black touch-up won't cure. My frame came with v-brake mounts, but not really a weakness.

Bottom Line:This bike will take a beating and want to be ridden even harder. I've got the bike set up for aggressive all mountain-light freeride style riding. the fifth element shock impresses me more everytime I ride. I've taken the bike off of several 6-7 foot drops and the bike just soaks them up. The fireroad climbs to our favorite trails are made very easy with the stable platform shock and the lock out on the fork. technical climbs are a blast as well. Just stay seated and keep pedalling. For $399 there isn't a better frame out there! This frame should probably sell for around 7-8 hundred bucks. If you want to make the jump to full suspension, and have probably the best all around bike out on the trail, then I highly recommend giving the xp a serious look. Otherwise, spend stupid money for a boutique brand.

Strengths:very good price for componentry.fork is very good though it shlould have some more rebound damping power.avid mechanics are very, very good, though i've come from riding ratty side pulls for years.the bike is a breeze to wheelie, just so easy to lift the front end.the XT rear derrailuer has not skipped a beat.has a quality chain with what looks like a master link, cool.i like the seat, it fits real nice and feels great.bike has taken three foot drops with a problem, haven't stepped it up yet though.
Weaknesses:mine came with the progressive 5the element which is alright, not very plush for low speed riding (but can decrease air pressure for more plush).the mutanoraptors are alright tires, not the best for high speed desert cornering, but 2.24 size is cool makes descents more comfortable.wish they had not put rear side pull brake stays on the frame, who's gonna go back to that 'sheet'.as others have said the name is ridiculous, solved that with very thin HPDE ziptied to the down tube to cover name as well as protect frame from tire kick-up debris.the avid brake levers have a tendency to rattle at high speed, maybe nit picky here.oh and big down side is the derrailuer hanger, or lack of one i should write.these bikes don't have the normal little replaceable do-dad, there is a chunk of the frame down there that is replaceable but the cost of it must be at least $100, if we could find parts when the issue comes.what will probably happen if i crash and smack the derrailuer is that the derrailuer will be destroyed, the frame part really isn't gonna budge.this may be costly in the future, knock on wood for me i guess.the front derrailuer cable runs at a funny part of the top tube making the use of the top tube for clamping the bike in a work stand impossible, have to use the seat tube to clamp bike.

Bike Setup:shimano M424 clip ins with the plastic cage.switched front brake lever to right hand and rear brake to left (eg dirtbikes).kevlar inserts to try to stop thorn punctures.110 mm stem, gives me more room than the stock 90mm that comes stock on the 16 inch size.sigma sport BC800 (freakin great computer alround).
Bottom Line:this is really a pretty nice bike.it was the way i was raised i guess, but spending $3000 on a BICYCLE is just out of the question.here i get the suspension i'm seeking and good disc brakes, i'm stylin.i mean goin fast is all about brakes anyway.i've taken a couple 10 mile rides with it and it has worked very well.climbing hills is about the same as on my last bike, 3 inch rear travel.climbing is all about knowing how to climb.i really like the bike, i'm kind of a proletariat rider anyway.my suggestion will be to wait for the 2005 model, it may have some sweet upgrades and then you can get the 2004 model for a better deal than we got.definitely 5 chilis for the value for the buck but only three chilis because of the nasty rear derrailuer hanger design and situation

Strengths:Great value. Excellent climber.
Weaknesses:None that I can tell yet.
Bike Setup:Marchozzi MZ Comp fork, 5th element air shock, Avid discs, WTB wheels/Deore hubs, Drivetrain, shifters, etc from my old Trek 4500.
Bottom Line:This is my first FS Bike and I'm loving it. It climbs as well as my old hardtail, and is easily controllable on downhills. Definitely the best bang for the buck, especially when the shock alone retails for $350! So far it's handled some serious jumps/drops with no problems at all. Looks like it will hold up to a lot of abuse. I got the flat black finish, and it looks nice, but already shows signs of wear from my bike rack. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to upgrade to a FS bike on a budget.

Bottom Line:paid $499 frame and 5th element and seatpost. saw it advertised later @ $329.00 called and they credited me the difference. built the bike from my gt. broke the frame after 5 years of pounding. it climbs like my bullit only its 11 lbs lighter. nice orange color too.it descends well and is a well built clone of a heckler with a bullit shock mounting position.the 5 x 5 bike seems to be the wave of the future and this hits the mark dead center. i have taken this down some nasty east coast boulder runs and loose rocky trails. its never felt squirrley and it climbs as well as my gt ever did. and i loved that bike. this is the best deal going on the internet and the company has great customer service. the seatpost was frozen and had no tilt.they sent me a new one and a prepaid return slip for the broken part. for the money the bike is a winner and it rides like one too.whether your looking for a first full suspension bike or have ridden for ever on high end bikes this is a great value.

Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:Supergo
Strengths:Frame strength, 5th element shock, stealth looks (in all black)
Weaknesses:5th element, swingarm position
Bike Setup:Marzocchi Pro w/EXR, XT hubs, SingleTrack rims, LX crankset, Weyless CNC'd stem, Weyless DH40 risers, Avid Discs (203F/160R), WTB Rocket V, Thomson Elite, Crank Bros Mallet, IRC Trailbear 2.5, XT drivetrain
Bottom Line:Incredible bike for the money; I bought the frame and 5th element for $399 and then built it up myself for $1000. Weyless/WTB cockpit moved over from the KHS frame I snapped in Mammoth. I don't see that happening w/ this frameset.
The shock is awesome, but needed a new valve core before it started working well. 50 cents at Autozone -- no biggie. It climbs better than my Gary Fisher hardtail and the descents are PLUUSHH. Love the fork, too. EXR is much better than a full lockout, and I now proudly own two bikes w/Marzocchi's on them because they are bulletproof. I am a Clydesdale, and will gladly sacrifice some adjustability (Godzilla-smashing-stuff riding style would probably cover it anyway) for gear that will perform AND last. This is a Heckler in bum's clothing, and I catch my buddies on Blurs sneaking envious looks all the time...
I used a v-brake 130 deg noodle to clean up the rear der cable routing, and flipped the shock so I could reach the valves more easily (called Progressive - they said up/down/forward/back didn't matter as long as shock didn't hit frame). Other big plus on the bike is the 2.5 Trailbear on the front: it BARELY fits in the fork, but it crushes every other tire I've used. It will hold me all by itself (I only have it on the front; 2.3 Epic on the rear) on steep dust-over-hardpack that leaves my buddies skidding both ends.
Other weakness is swingarm posit: hard to reach adjust screws on front der, and there seems to be a lot of chain slap. 90 deg screwdriver fixed first problem, and second could be solved w/ tensioner if I wasn't so cheap.
Overall, I am extremely pleased w/ this product (as I have been w/ all the Weyless stuff I've gotten over the years) and give it full props. Bulletproof construction, high-end design w/ very substantial savings over Heckler. I'd love a boutique bike, too, but if I really wanted to help my image I'd lose weight, first. First one up and down gets the coldest beer, whatever you ride. Weekly ride is 4.25 mi/2500' up and then back down on some very technical lines, and this bike does both with aplomb.

Strengths:Price!
Weaknesses:Seatpost and stem

Bike Setup:Stock, replaced stem and seatpost w/Thomson, WTB gel seat, Sppedplay 'Frog' pedals and Stans No-Tube kit
Bottom Line:I've been riding full suspension bikes since 1990, putting up w/ all their idiosyncrcrasies, in order to blast downhill. The SPV technology has finally pushed the bicycle into the realm of off-road motorcycle handling capabilties in tight technical single track downhills. The XP is always predictable and on some sections that I used to stand to ride, I now stay seated. Like some of the other reviewers, I'm a Clydesdale (6'3"-215lbs.)and the bike was a good fit right out of the box (except for the stem). After hundreds of miles on this bike, I'd recommend it to any recreational rider who likes epic (3hr.+) single track rides. In fact, a couple of my buddies are going to replace thier bikes w/ XP's.

Bottom Line:This bike is awesome, wouldn't trade it for anything, seems as if this bike is endlessly modifiable. This bike can handle anything, even make it into somewhat of a DH type bike if you want to with the right parts for it. Weyless really outdid themselves this time.

Strengths:The frame design is really trick and performs even better than it looks. 5" of travel front and rear - hardly any bob going up moderate inclines, soaks up big drops, jumps no problem. Weyless has really done a fantastic job combining solid geometry/design with quality Easton tubing to come up with a great frame. My first time out with it at my favorite trail I took it off a six foot drop and it performed better than expected. I was really impressed as I am a pretty big rider - 215 lbs, and no bottoming out at all. Avid disc brakes work flawlessly.
Weaknesses:Not many but... I was told by the mechanic that you need to be gentle with the damping adjustment knob on the bottom of the fork - mine busted off while adjusting it - either I don't know my own strength or it was defective? Still waiting to hear from Manitou. Some adjustment already needed on the derailleurs, not shifting as smooth on some gears - not a big deal but just wanted to be as helpful as possible. Other than that, no major weaknesses that I can spot.

Bottom Line:If you want a great "all mountain" bike without having to refinance your house again, then this bike is for you. Like everyone else has said - Great buy - period. If this bike had a different name on the frame you'd be paying a lot more for this kind of performance. Just suck it up and shell out the $1300. Instead of a brand name you can have money in the bank.
