Description:SYSTEM 12 comes from the very reliable System 8. The 4 pistons with different diameters enlarged to 15.5 mm and 18 mm, assure an awesome braking and a precise modulation; the pads, with lowered profile, allow the outfit of the special lightened brake discs of stainless steel with narrow braking track available in 200 mm diameter. The M/C comes with an enlarged reservoir to hold a big quantity of fluid and its transparent material allows the visual check of the fluid level. Front or Rear in Red only.

Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $250.00
Strengths:Great Power, and modulation. Super easy to bleed
Weaknesses:a bit heavy for xc, not at all for DH/AM. UNEXISTENT original spare parts, pads and hoses available from goodridge.
Tricky setup.
Similar Products Used:juicy 7, magura marta
Bike Setup:giant NRS RS, reba team / sid dual air rear, sram x0 shifters and rear, xtr FD, raceface deus crank, fsa xc115 stem, thomson seatpost, fizik arione, profile design solar bar and carbon bar ends, grimeca 12 brakes.
Bottom Line:
Once you asume there is no way to find pads (lately found goodridge and they rock) or other spares and you have to make them or overpricely buy them, this brakes are just the best, MONSTER power and great modulated, bleeding very easy. I wont retire them unless complete faliure, they just stop my 240 lb as easy as i was a jockey.

If you want beast strong stop, go with this, if you are a weight freak try something else.

Date Reviewed: November 2, 2005
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $125.00
Purchased At:universalcycles
Strengths:Very good stopping power and no fading when compared to Hayes, Hope and the others. Very easy to bleed the older shimano XT brakes seem to be a direct copy of the system 8's. The 12's are a little better. They have better modulation and power, as well as a larger pad and pistons.
Weaknesses:Hard to find parts for like adaptors, shimano parts work though. Grimeca support doesnt exist. Can usually get pads through EBC.
Similar Products Used:Hayes, Hope, Magura Gustav, System 8. (for back)
Bike Setup:DHR.
Bottom Line:These brakes are probably the best system out there. Not as much power as Gustavs, but they are stupid easy to bleed. Just twist off the top cap to the very large resevoir, open the bottom bleed valve and just keep adding oil as they drain. Takes five minutes and can be done in the parking lot, no syringes, no mess.
