    Date Reviewed: June 11, 2007
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Light, good grip (no need to buy seperate grip), act as end caps and grip locks, small, look good, comfortable.
    Weaknesses:Price
Similar Products Used:EL cheapo aluminum/metal bar ends.
Bike Setup:Titec Hellbent handlebars, SRAM X.9 Gripshift, Dangerboy Levers, SRAM grips.
Bottom Line:Very nice. The ends themseves are made of rubber so you don't need to buy a seperate grip or worry about grips sliding around and ripping. Because they are all rubber, they are very cushy, not hard and fatiguing like a metal bar end.

They go on the end of the handlebars so they act like a cap and also like grip locks so nothing can slide off.

They are very small yet ergonomically shaped. They seem to fit perfectly in your hands. They are very , very, very comfy.

They are very pricey compared to cheaper regular bar ends, but if your riding a $1000+ bike, what's $50 or so to add extreme comfort.

I recommend these to all riders looking for bar ends. Don't settle for whatever is on your local bike shop shelf.

4 flamming peppers in value cause of the higher price, but overall 5 since nothing compares. At $50 it's not like your paying $150 for them, like some carbon bottle cages you can buy. That's just out of this world nuts. I'll stick to my $10 plastic cateye cages. Any color to match your bike, plastic so its flexible to fit your bottle, and scratch proof.

Strengths:(I have Ergo Control 2) Improved handling, easy installation, very comfortable to use
Weaknesses:They make my wide handlebar a little wider
    Similar Products Used:Run-of-the-mill barends
Bike Setup:Klein Palomino Race Disc with Thomson Stem and, of course, these great barends
Bottom Line:I finally gave up on being "cool" and ordered these barends. I've been looking at them forever and the only thing I regret is not buying them sooner. And, they don't really look that goofy . . . :-)

Strengths:Nicest barends since the Syncros Steerhorns.
Weaknesses:Sort of pricey. Apparently the free market is not working to lower the price of this product through competition.
Bottom Line:Despite the ridiculous number of bar ends that clamp to the bar and stick way out front (which aren't too popular any more), darn near no one has figured out that bar ends that allow your palms to sit right on the ends of the handlebar are way more comfortable. Seems pretty obvious to me, but the only people to figure this out are Syncros (the 'steerhorns' barends from the late '80s), Singletrack Solutions (neat little cheap plastic barends that weight nothing and work pretty well, all you need), and Cane Creek. The Syncros Steerhorns are so antique that you don't even see them on eBay (mine got so old that I actually wore through the aluminum tubing in the palm area), leaving Cane Creek pretty much the only people making this totally obvious product. They're sort of pricey ($35 compared to like $8 for the 'singletrack solutions'), but have a nice plush rubber coating and (another no-brainer) serve as the outer lockring for lock-on grips. Cane Creek must make a ton of dough on these things -- why hasn't Nashbar come out with a molded plastic knockoff yet?

    Weaknesses:None that I have noticed
Bottom Line:Great item, I am very happy with them. Great for resting my hands while I'm cruising, and awesome for pulling the bike back and forth when I am sprinting or climbing. They are just another reason for you to get some ODI lock on grips if you don't have them already.

Bottom Line:I am new to grip shifting and was having trouble when hopping over obstacles. The trouble was than when I tilted bike forward dang thing was shifting. With these bad boys not only am I not shifting but am able to get more leverage. I use these all the time now. They are not just cool looking decorations.

Bike Setup:Fisher Mt Tam 29'r,, stock

Bike Setup:Yeti ARC...best damn hardtail ever produced
Bottom Line:A bar end is a bar end is a bar end, right? Wrong. What sets the Canes apart is that your weight is distributed in the center line of the handlebar, creating more leverage and more importantly, leverage. It's a simple engineering design which took about a million years in the bike industry to figure out. All the others have your hands extended in front of the handlebar which counteracts all the advantages of the Canes. Bit expensive for a bar end though...

Bottom Line:I read where these are good for changing hand positions on long rides while keeping a good grip.they are very grippy and I use them about 50/50 now because I can still shift my GS and maintain the comfort of the hands being to the side and not forward.I can do light braking this way too but not full stop braking yet.I get a lot of stares on the trails and to the trails due to their unique shape and position on the bars.this has been the best upgrade on my bike in a while.it has made riding when my hands and wrists are tired from work much more enjoyable.they grip when wet ,with or without gloves and just perform up to their reputation.these are worth the price paid and more

Similar Products Used:Zefal, a German barend with a three-sided shape. This is the most comfortable barend I have ever used.
    Bike Setup:Cannondale F1000SL
Bottom Line:These barends are more or less lateral extensions of the handlebar, so they do not bring the hands much over the handlebar the way some other barends do. In spite of this, they fit the hand so perfectly that all else is forgiven. I do however find that I have to change hand position ever couple of minutes to avoid numbness.

Bottom Line:I really like these bar ends and have had no problems with them over the past couple years. They feel indestructible. Additionally, they are compact enough that they don't catch trees or branches on the side of the trail, yet they add alot of comfort and hand positions, particularly on big, long climbs. The only downsides are the weight and the cost (buy yours on-line, where you can find them for significantly cheaper).

Strengths:The Product gives you great control on the climb. Your hands stay on the bar not above the bar. This gives you straighter lines on the climb. THEY ARE RUBBER ON THE OUTSIDE!
Weaknesses:The weaknesses of the product is when you install it you have to cut the grips. If you have carbon bars you have to make sure not to cut the carbon.Take away from main grip.
    Similar Products Used:nothing like it
Bike Setup:Giant NRS 1 Easton Monkey Light bar
Bottom Line:If you have not tried this product its a must buy. I never used bar ends, so the was no problem using these. If you have used the traditional bar ends, as I call them now, they might take getting use to. They are great to beacuse they are rubber on the outside.

When your climbing there is good balance and straight lines. I feel you have alot of control with these bar ends. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THESE.

Similar Products Used:SingleTrack Solution ST Lite, numerous other cheap bar ends.
Bike Setup:Specialized Enduro Pro w/ Time Z Pedals, Answer Protaper Carbon Handlebar and continential survival pro tires for the rear.
Bottom Line:These are very comfortable. It fits perfectly into my hands. I have riser handlebar but I still like bar ends on them (rider preference). After many miles of rough terrain, these still hold up, in fact not even a dent.

Although I'm not a weight weenie, these are pretty heavy compare to other bar ends, also you have to squeeze these into the end of the handlebar which can damage your handlebar. Also they are too big and takes too much space.
    These can be $5 cheaper.

Give these 3 chills because they are expensive and 4 chills overall because my problems can be just a preference issue.

    Strengths:Comfortable hand position, high-quality materials
    Weaknesses:Price, weight
Similar Products Used:Serfas Stabilizers (plastic and aluminum)
Bottom Line:Rather than repeat the other reviews, I'll compare the Cane Creek Ergo Control with another similar bar end: the Serfas Stabilizer (Aluminum, not plastic.) I've owned and used both.

Both models offer a superior hand position, balance, and the ability to steer with your palms without using your fingers to grip. If you've never used this type of bar end (with 1/3 below the bar) you should try it: you'll probably never go back. The Cane Creek model is more comfortable, but heavier. The Serfas ALUMINUM model is not quite as comfortable, but it's much lighter and is an excellent value.

If money and weight aren't an issue, the Cane Creek Ergo Controls are really a high quality product. Unfortunately, money doesn't grow on trees, so I'm giving it 3 chilis for value. See my review on the Serfas Stabilizers for my opinion on that product.

Weaknesses:None for me. Some say that they're pricey and heavy. As far as being heavy is concerned, maybe you should wait until you make it through puberty and you can manage a few more grams. Pricey? What? Have you seen how much money some of these guys spend on things. For something that comes into play every time you ride, $35 is hardly expensive if it provides you with exceptional comfort and application!

Bottom Line:These bar ends are very nice! The nicest I've ever had or seen. They feel great and have a great grip. Several nice grip positions actually. In my opinion, Cane Creek has the bar end market tied up with these in the same way King does with the headsets. A really nice product with an undisputable quality of application!!!! If you're going with bar ends, it's the new NO-brainer!!!

Bottom Line:They're heavy; the pair weighs as much as the rest of the bar. They're expensive; $50 for bar ends?

But they're the bomb, and worth the weight and cost. Very comfortable under the hands. And with their flat-ish top surface, my handlebar has become more like a control deck. I get four unique, comfortable hand/arm positions when sitting (great for relieving fatigue), plus super grip and control on those out-of-the-saddle climbs. Totally awesome on those technical, rocky climbs.

The rubber over the aluminum skeleton isn't appreciably worn after six months and about a thousand miles.

The real bottom line: one of the must-have pieces of gear that every future bicycle of mine will wear, as indespensible as cranks. Expensive? Sure. But you get what you pay for... and I gave a set to my brother in law for Christmas, so they can't be _that_ bad!
