Description:Symmetrical backward-sloping shape on left and right of these panniers provide more leg room. Made of durable Cordura(R) nylon with polyester and constructed with welded seams for strength. Designed with an easy access, roll-top closure. Replaceable, adjustable, quick-release security catches mount panniers quickly and easily on racks--also removed easily. Lifting on pannier carrying strap automatically releases the QLR-system security catches, while releasing the strap causes latches to lock in place.

Favoriate Trail:Appalachian
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $130.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Waterproof and easy to clean! Holds firmly to frame.
Weaknesses:Hard to pack/unpack without juggling contents. Clip system will eventually abrade anodization on Al racks.
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:Cannondale touring with bar-end shifters - daily commuter.
Bottom Line:Absolutely waterproof! Note that I actually have the "Classic" version, which uses a different clip system. Very fast on/off, but has abraded the anodization on my Blackburn rack. I had a full pint of refried beans blow out in one bag and simply turned it over and hosed it out in the back yard with no residual stink - very nice. Great for commuters like me - just chuck everything in one big bag, roll it down tight, clip and away you go!

Price Paid: $100.00
Purchased At:LBS in Aachen, Germany
Strengths:Waterproof
Easy clipping on and off
Weaknesses:Waterproof means it doesn't breathe - which means soggy clothes inside will stink up.
Similar Products Used:Jannd Mountain (although not waterproof, still my favorite
Bike Setup:Tommasini Sintesi. Yeti ARC
Bottom Line:Used these to tour across Canada's Icefields Parway (Banff-Jasper). No problems whatsoever. I've met folks who've done round-the-world tours and other staggering trips and most of them use Ortliebs. That's good enough endorsement for me to get them. Purchased them while vacationing in Germany. Hey, I didn't need them, but the price was too good.

Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $140.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:waterproof
tough
Weaknesses:no way to organize gear
no external pockets
Bottom Line:These bags are great. Quick and secure mounting hardware. Fully waterproof when closed correctly and not overstuffed. These bags are best to be used for stuff you aren't going to need repeated access to, without any pockets there is no way to organize stuff or to access stuff without unpacking the whole thing. Get these to hold the stuff you need once a day, camping gear, and another set for the front for stuff you may want to access repeately throughout the day, camera, food, sunscreen.
