I have front and rear rollers. The mounting system works very well and keeps bags tight over rough terain. The system of straps for closure is complicated and the straps can easily be lost. They are waterproof which is usualy a good thing but you will need to carry waterproof bags to carry wet stuff. The biggest draw back is lack of (zipped) organizing pockets which makes getting at small often used items a chore (I end up finding other places to put them). They are tough although I have managed to make a hole in one of them which will have to be repaired with a pvc patch. Overall I am very happy with them.

Strengths:
These are the greatest invention since the derraileur. They keep your stuff dry, even in the most torrential downpour, they are durable, and they stay on your racks even on the bumpiest of roads. Also, they have two reflective patches at the rear for added safety.
Weaknesses:
I would say that pockets would be nice, but they would ruin the structural integrity (i.e. dryness) of the bags.

I don't know why the guy below are so mad about this great products. This is the greatest bike bags I have ever had, I promise you !! Totally waterproof make your trip lots comfortable. You even don't have to worry about your gears in heavy unexpected rain. Bags are also very durable and tough made. I have met one German guy who use the bags for 9 years and had no trouble.
Listen folks. Buy them, if you want best bags out there.

Many. They are heavy, clumsy, not self standing, attach to the rack poorly. 'waterproofness' is no help: what goes in dry stays dry; what goes in wet stays wet!

I bought these for my two year world tour to test them the entire way. Was I ever disappointed! One great big bag with a top that just folds down. When will these guys discover zippers and small pockets to put small items? If your idea of traveling is to put two years worth of camping gear into a military duffel bag and call it a day, these bags are for you.
Bottom Line: don't buy them. The whole point of Ortliebs is that you are not supposed to 'need plastic bags.' But you need plastic bags with these in order to separate your wet stuff from the dry stuff. Damp clothing never dries out even in good weather. Get a set of panniers which are breathable and spray the tops (not the sides and bottoms) with waterproofing spray; 99% of ortlieb at .001% of the cost.

(I actually have the Ortleib Back Roller Panniers, which look from the picture to be almost identical to the Front Rollers...) These panniers are excellent. They secure to the bike using spring-loaded clips, so they do not come off when going over bumps, and they come off quickly when you want to remove them. I have been in about 10 heavy rains so far(it doesn't rain so much here...), with not a drop of water getting inside. I can clean them off with a hose or in the shower by spraying them quickly. I use them almost every day and have had no problems with them.
I am a commute/touring cyclist and have used these panniers for bike rides all over the Bay Area and never had a problem with them.

Very durable and totally waterproof. Easy to put on and off the bike. Dont jolt loose off the carrier on rough roads.
Weaknesses:
No internal or external pockets. Not the lightest. Cost more than other brands.

Ideal for expedition riders requiring tough reliable panniers to keep items dry where the prime concern is not light weight.
First used on a ride from the UK through France and across Spain. Roads/trails ranged from riding (legally)on a motorway, to paths so rough I sometimes had to carry the bike. Constant heavy rain for the first couple of weeks. Bike got dropped as well as being ridden on overgrown trails. Camping, so the panniers were constantly wet and being dumped in muddy fields.
Panniers took hard knocks and abrasion without showing signs of wear and remained totaly waterproof. Easy to put on and off the bike even in cold rainy conditions. Panniers never came loose from the carrier on rough roads/trails. Easy to clean. Full panniers retain their oblong shape not sagging like some front panniers do, so bikes front end remained balanced.
Despite being grossly abused these panniers are as good as new, unlike the not Ortlieb rear panniers I used which were so worn out I dumped them after the ride. Given this, although more expensive than other panniers they are better value.
