from Westchester, NY, U.S.A Date Reviewed: June 8, 2008 | | Favoriate Trail: | Anything at Diablo Freeride Park | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Purchased At: | Tag | | Strengths: | Incredibly strong, durable, beefy, no maintenance, no problems ever, can be used for any kind of riding, from dirt jumping, downhill, free ride, and street, I've never gotten a flat with these. | | Weaknesses: | None. Some people say that they are to heavy, not a problem at all, I can do even more with my 'heavy wheels' then other light, low quality, metal wheels | | Similar Products Used: | the FRX5 is the first composite plastic wheel I have ridden, seen, or even herd of, but of all the wheel's I have used, nothing ranks with these, not even industry nine's | | Bike Setup: | 08' Santa Cruz Jackal, FRX5's, 2 Hayes Nines, Single speed w/ Shadow conspiracy chain (good for street and downhill), 05' drop off | | Bottom Line: | Strongest wheel's you can ever buy, best wheels on the market, you'll have no complaints with these wheels. I Got the wheels, and love them. First off, everything said about the wheels from Tag is completely true, and I've had no problems with getting flats or any anything. I love the low (really no) maintenance that they require. They are so strong is almost unreal, how do I know this? I was hit by an suv, thrown off my bike, and my bike was partially under the suv. Well, put it like this, my front wheel is now so bent out of shape that it isn't ridable (a normal, metal, high maintenance wheel), my back wheel (which is a mag) is perfectly fine, not even scratched or dented. Trust me on this one, there isn't a better wheel.

$1200.00 | | Purchased At: | tagwheels.com | | Strengths: | Sickest rad wheels ever. I never went a season without rebuilding my wheels til these bombers came out. You can hit what ever big and cant bend em or break em like they say. They be indestructable. The wheels are still true as when I got em after putting em thru some heavy s*it! The dt swiss hubs roll smooth and no worries. I dident take the wheels off my bike all season so id say tag wheels rule!
| | Weaknesses: | They only come black, but they say their working on colors soon. The wheels are heavier but you get used to em. No big weaknesses compared to metal spoke wheels that break and bend all the time! | | Similar Products Used: | nothing compares to tags maybe bombcrushers but they still require maintenance and their not mags
| | Bike Setup: | 2006 Specialized P3
| | Bottom Line: | I already said but the sweetest wheels ive ever owned! Strong tough no maintenance and will last a long time. They cost a lot but their worth it as they last and you don't have to fix em. Ride rideride. Not ride fix ride fix ride fix. Get it

I`m sure I`ll never break this set (I`ve folded two Big earl wheels so far) The guys at Tag were great to deal with (I had to send one back because it was wrong, getting another was NO Problem, thanks to Mike) I am VERY happy so far and I`m sure that feeling will go on forever! I recommend these wheels to anyone who loves to ride hard anywhere. They were the perfect compliment to my already great Trek Session! | | Weaknesses: | Absolutely NONE! | | Similar Products Used: | I always loved "Tuff Wheels" when I was a kid (they were indestructible) Other than that, Nothing compares. | | Bike Setup: | Trek Session 77 with brake therapy | | Bottom Line: | Sweet sweet wheels!! $950.00 | | Purchased At: | www.tagwheels.com | | Strengths: | Ive been out in Whistler since the beggining of June 2007 and have been riding Tag Wheels in the bike park since I got here. I'm quite an aggressive rider and weigh about 210lb, consequently I go through on average two rims a year which is costly! Tag Wheels however have proved to be incredibly strong. Ive been put these Tag Wheels through hell since I got them and they remain unscathed. Ive ridden down from the top of Garbanzo chair lift(the highest one) with a flat tyre over stuff that would damage or destroy an ordinary wheel. Ive landed super hard on rocks which would dent most rims and not even had a pinch flat. They hook onto the chair lift easier, they never get out of true or need spokes tightening and Im am quite certain they will last for the rest of my riding career. These wheels do their job well and are a testement to them selves | | Weaknesses: | No weakness only strength! | | Similar Products Used: | A vareity of other wheels which are all now broken! | | Bike Setup: | Rocky Mountain RMX | | Bottom Line: | If you are someone who rides hard and brakes wheels then this is definately the product for you, however they would be a great asset to any rider. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

| | Bottom Line: | A good product for their intended use as a bike park wheel. Although slightly heavier than the average wheel this product requires no maintenence and offers peice of mind when charging down the side of a mountain at full speed! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

It helps keep me in line on track and and takes hard hits with a prob. A bit sketchy in strong crosswinds, but I think that is more of a learning curve than a design prob. $1000.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | Strongest wheels i've ridden, impact resistant, looks great, stiff. | | Weaknesses: | none | | Similar Products Used: | deemax, doublewide, industry nine, wtb, many others. | | Bike Setup: | V10, boxxer world cup, juicy 7, sram x9/x9, intense tires. Also ride an m3. | | Bottom Line: | How can I complain about the first bomb-proof wheel that actually delivers what they promise? I've wanted these wheels the first time I saw them over a year ago and I finally got a set! After researching as much as i could (not easy finding all the info I wanted since they weren't available) I just had to take the plung. I was despirate since my 280 lbs eat every wheel I've tried, but I've become a master wheelbuilder in the process :). I didn't want to review the wheels until I got at least a months full of runs into them and I'm glad to say they are worth every cent. I've done some hard runs on both coasts and never had a problem. Even through a very bad crash and not a dent. These are some seriously strong wheels. Another side benefit is wheel stiffness - I'm accelerating out of corners faster and with more confidence than ever. My riding has actually improved on these wheels. Yes they are heavier than spokes, but I'm riding faster, so how can I complain. If weight was everything, we'd still be xc bikes downhill. Sorry, but I must get this off my chest. i hate when bike shop punks feel that they can write reviews without even taking the time to learn and ride what they review. I go to bike shops and all I get are misleading opinions from guys that don't even ride. Just because something is new or if it looks like something that didn't work in the past, they prejudge its quality. I worked a shop in my younger years so don't get me wrong, there are some good shops and employees but it's getting hard to find. I almost didn't get these wheels because of this, so to set the record straight... 1 - The hubs ARE fixable, and removable DT swiss hubs. They can be serviced and greased like any DT hub. 2 - If you do crash it to the point that a new wheel is needed, a crash replacement program is offered for $200. They pop-out the old hub and put it in the new wheel. 3 - I also put these wheel in a truning stand after my crash and they were perfect. No hops and as true as any other wheel that I didn't build myself. 4 - These are not Spins or Spinergy, just like the deemax isn't a ksyrium es. Those wheels were carbon fiber with xc use in mind and no thought of hard impacts. 5 - Standard spoked wheels don't work for everybody. The best hubs, rims and spokes have there limits. I'm sure these wheels also have their limits too, but I'm impressed so far. I'll be sure to review again after the last lift closes. Perhaps the shop guys are worried that if they make a wheel that's too good, they'd be out of a job? | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Northeast USA Date Reviewed: July 14, 2007 | | Favoriate Trail: | anything steep | | Duration Product Used: | Tested or demo'ed only | | Strengths: | hmmmm not much.....TAG wheels handed them over for free | | Weaknesses: | Well where to begin? I work at a shop and TAG Wheels sent us a set of these wheels to test. The front is a 20mm axle, rear 150mm x 12 mm. These were put on an Iron Horse Sunday Team. -Weight. These are 2700 grams out of the box. For $1100 retail price thats very heavy. Comparable downhill wheelsets weigh less than 2000 grams. Having that much rolling weight in a DH wheel is very bad. -Service. The hub is bonded together. No ability to rebuild, grease, tighten or service anything. No spokes to true, no rim to replace, no hub to replace, you must it, you pay $500 for a new wheel. -Quality. The first thing I did was put these wheels in a truing stand out of the box. Neither wheel was true, nor centered properly. Thats crap. -Common sense. There is a reason why traditional bicycles wheels have always had a rim, hub and spokes. Spynergy wheels never worked, Spin wheels never worked. We may have forgen about these plastic wheels, but we'll never forget they don't work. -More common sense. Have a skilled wheel builder build a wheelset on a quality hub, with a durable rim and spokes and you'll spend half as much and get the best performance possible out of your bike.
I rode these for a few downhill runs. I pinch flatted for the first time on 2 seasons and the wheels have a jaring, rigid, heavy feel to them. Plastic doesn't absord shock....these are scary to hammer on.

Super stiff, and the deep rounded bead holds the tires well. Design and finish looks great. DTSwiss rear hub has great hookup and is whisper quiet. Peace of mind knowing that if you do come up short your wheel is going roll away without a scratch. | | Weaknesses: | Rim thickness makes it a little tricky getting the pump to grab a hold of the stem initially, recommend long stem tubes. | | Similar Products Used: | DT Swiss, Atomlab, Azonic, Mavic | | Bike Setup: | Demo7ii, DHX5, Totem Solo, Juicy 7s, FRX5s w/Minions | | Bottom Line: | If you find yourself destroying wheels, or just want peace of mind that your wheels wont be the weak link, then get yourself some TAGs.
