    Favoriate Trail:Dirt merchant
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Price Paid: $400.00
    Purchased At:pro deal
Strengths:sweet when new- light- tubless is cool
Weaknesses:hubs dont last- special tools required to service or true. My latest set of dee max lasted only 4 months before the rear hub failed.
    Similar Products Used:hadley. shimano.
Bike Setup:ventana el cuervo. intence tracer. specialized sx. ibis mojo.
Bottom Line:i dont know how i always end up with these wheels. they just find me for cheap usually. dont buy these unless you get them really cheap. every set i have ever owned has failed after a few months. the rear hubs are junk- not servicable. if you ride allot- you will wear them out. this goes for XC to the DH models. i have them all. (unfortunaly). they rims are good in my opinion. tubless works great. easy to true. strong.

Strengths:looks cool. pretty beefy. light for being tough. ust.
Weaknesses:sometimes hard to put tires on and off. but im not the best mechanic so that might be it.
heard about crappy rear hub. mine is fine so fr.

Bottom Line:so far so good. i got it less than a month ago and yet to take them to the mountains this season. in urban with many harsh flat landings, these wheels are solid and flawless so far. cant beat the funky yellow. once i take it to golden, i should be able to tell more.

    Favoriate Trail:South Burma
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $300.00
    Purchased At:Cambria
Strengths:I only bought a back wheel. This wheel is super stiff, you can feel the trail much better underneath you. It handles corners and absorption much better than wheels that flex. I've taken it down some crazy descents, off some high drops, jumps, downhill and its still as straight as an arrow, the hub was a big improvement over my stock one so I have good things to say about the wheel all around.
Weaknesses:None really, its heavy but I don't mind it, its weight where its needed anyhow.
Similar Products Used:Rhynolites, DT Swiss X430 rims with a stout and shimano m525 hub
Bike Setup:07 stumpy fsr comp stock with, thomson elite post, monkeylite bars, the deemax in the back, and an xtr front derailuer.
Bottom Line:Solid all around. Will report back after another few hundred miles.

    Strengths:Strength to weight ratio.
    Durability
    UST
    Weaknesses:Yellow!
Similar Products Used:Mavic 823 with Chris King/Hope hubs.
Bike Setup:2006 Santa Cruz Nomad. Fox DHX with ti spring. Saint/XTR components. Fox Van RC2 36 fork. Code brakes.
Bottom Line:These wheels rock. Great for all mountain and freeriding. I've been riding them for the last couple of years and have had no problems. Light enough that I can ride them up the hill and strong enough for 10+ full days at Whistler. You have to buy UST specific tires (I recommend Maxxis Highroller 2.5) to get the full benefit of the UST system. Regular tires with a sealant is messy and tends to leak. With a UST specific tire I can inflate the tire with a regular bike pump! You can build a stronger wheel with more spokes and a wider rim but it won't be faster than a Deemax.

    Favoriate Trail:Snowshoe
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Purchased At:Internet
    Strengths:Looks, weight
Weaknesses:Price, weak rims, rear hub is a joke, the mother of all battles to get a DH tire on this rim.
    Similar Products Used:Crossmax, Azonic, Ringle
Bike Setup:Kona, DHX, 888, 729's on Hadley's, Nevegals, Diabolus, MRP, SRAM, Hayes
Bottom Line:Yea they're light and cool looking but no where near as strong as the hype. Definitely not the wheelset for newbs. A few less than perfect hits and you're in for problems. Rims bend, flatspot & pop spokes way too easy. May be a great wheelset for all mountain/fast singletrack but not for big hit FR or rocky DH. Rear hub was the biggest disappointment when I serviced it. Two Pawls engaged by tiny springs the size of the spring in a push button ink pen. Fortunately my rear never blew up but everyone else I know with Deemax's did.
Bottom line is there are MUCH better wheels out there in this price range and cheaper. In a conversation with the sales rep (of an online shop we all know) to order new wheels, he said to me "Yea I know, I feel guilty every time I sell these wheels to someone". Between the weak rim and crappy hub design I can't recommend 'em.

    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Purchased At:came on bike
    Strengths:they are really cool. light.
Weaknesses:hard to get tire on, WEAK. needed to be trued many times, the rear hub exploded, front hub is insanely loose. flat spotted dented, and the front has had 4 spokes just rip out for no apparent rearson, and that stripped the nipples so i couldnt put new ones back in.
    expensive
Similar Products Used:mavic d321(729) wayyyy better. it has a hope bulb on it, sick hub.

mtx with rigle, i havnt rode on this much but it seems pretty good.
Bike Setup:santa cruz vp free, boxxer team, mrp, hayes 9, xt, king headset, rear mtx, deeGAY front,
Bottom Line:they are alright if you have a full time mechanic and want light rims, or rims that are really "cool", i wouldnt suggest them to anyone other than a serisous racer who has the time money or the mechanic to work on these often.

    Favoriate Trail:National, Mormon,
    Duration Product Used:6 months
Strengths:Stiff Strong Wheels! Feels very confident
Weaknesses:REAR HUB FAILURE. I had my Dee-Max's for only 6 short months, mostly riding National trail on South Mountain. The freewheel hub body cracked, and Mavic would not honor their warranty!!!!
Similar Products Used:Mavic 823, with CHRIS KINGS, and Hadleys
Bike Setup:2005 Kona Stinky Deluxe, Marzocchi 66VF, King headset, SRAM shifters
Bottom Line:Stay away from the Dee-max line. The Mavic 823 / King or Hadley setup is equally bombproof, but the hubs are servicable, and you aren't out a wheel for 2 months WHEN the rear hub konks out.

So far, 6 friends we ride with that have run this set, 100% have sacked the rear hub. Sometimes Mavic takes care of the cost, sometimes not, but Every time it's a battle to get them to cover it, even with the protection plan!

Strengths:Stays True, no flexing. Awesome looks, UST no pinch flats. Really bombproof.
    Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Sun rims with XT hubs. Junk
Bike Setup:2002 Kona stinky, hfx nine 8" disks. 5th element coil shock . Marzocchi Z1 drop off one.
Bottom Line:really love them . I have taco-ed a few wheels in my time being 5'11' 190 lbs. these wheels inspire tons of confidence. really love them. I take good care of them they should outlast a few bikes. they take a rediculous beating on Mt Snow downhill runs. I would not ride any other rim now. I didn't believe the hype at first but then I rode them for a year now and the hype is compleatly true.

    Purchased At:south park cycles
Strengths:ust, strong, can take a beeting. the straight pull spokes....i can change a spke on the trail with out taking the wheel off
Weaknesses:pawls can come out of position it is the small springs combined with the heat from freewheeling at high speeds. mavic does need to address this
Similar Products Used:none this is my first true down hill wheels
Bike Setup:khs fr 2000 03 truvativ dh bar and stem, conti 2.3, grip shift with shimno drive train, romic rear shock and 05 marzocchi all mtn 3
Bottom Line:this is my trail/freeride set up i will be installing these on my 06 stinky. the pawls and spring in the freee hub are easy to service. i heard a nois coming from the rear when free wheeling and the little spring was out of place. simple fix but annoying when it does happen. 1 year of use these rims are very strong only slightly trued twice, noise has only happended twice....mavic please make it go away. i would recomend to anyone who needs a serious rim. good for urban assault.

Bike Setup:Scott High Octane, DEEMAX Wheels, E13 DRS, Love seat, Diablous Bar, 50/50 Flats.
Bottom Line:Bought this wheelset becuase from what I was told and read they would be comparable to strength and durability of other highend DH/FR wheels. After one Month the Freehub failed and frozen a day before a race. Apparently a Pawl broke inside???? Crap! I was forced to run my stock rear wheel to get down the hill, it survived. The shop is repairing, Mavic is paying. What a waste of time. Next time it is HadleyX823.

Weaknesses:Cost, I can by rims for my dirt bike for the cost of these.
Bike Setup:Foes fly. race face. fsa . hayes. maxxis minions
Bottom Line:I was poping a spoke every other ride on my old rims. Or at least retruing them. so far after 6 months and about 80 rides not one problem. They get 4 flaming turds for value because they just cost too much and 5 for overall

    Favoriate Trail:Chukar Butte, Porcupine Rim
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $600.00
    Purchased At:Georges Cycles
Strengths:Tracks with no flex, wider rim allows for tire profiles to optimize, Mavic UST system hard to beat
Weaknesses:Saint kit for rear wheel a bit awkward to get right
Similar Products Used:2003 Mavic Crossmac SL, 2002 Mavic Crossmax Bontrager
Bike Setup:2003 S Works Enduro, Progressive 5th element, Saint drive train, Avid Mechanical discs w / 8 inch rotors,DeeMax w Conti 2.3's, Rockshok Pyslo Race Tulio w 20 mm front axle
Bottom Line:Moving from the CrossMax standard to the DeeMax's w saint and Tulio front was like night and day in the terrain we ride most of the time. The wheel track the edges better when you are trying to hold a narrow line and they takes side and front impacts better than anything I have ridden. FYI I am 6' 205 plus with pack. I ahve trued the rear slightly in 6 months and that was after the derailleur was pushed into it bending one spoke. Took it to Moab for 4 days of riding and literaly crashed down porcupine rim at speeds I was never comfortable with on the old rims. I also think the higher volume tubeless tires have a better profile on the wider rims. The weight penalty is big but the performance is worth it in my style of riding. Great hubs and bearings so far the winter riding will tell the story will rereview next spring

    Purchased At:It's a secret!
Strengths:No spoke holes = no rim strips = happy me. If you hate installing rim strips, and are obsessive compulsive like myself, these wheels are a blessing. Oh yeah, and they're indestructable, too.
Weaknesses:Heavy as sin. My complete wheelset weighs about 16 lbs with 2.5 WTB tires, Hope rotors, and an XT cassette. MSRP is a bit steep.
Similar Products Used:WTB Laserdisc DH, WTB Dual Duty FR, Mavic XM 321's on Cannondale hubs.
Bike Setup:'04 Heckler, '05 Deemax UST's, Vanilla 125rlc, full M950 XTR, Hope mono minis, e.13 chainguide.
Bottom Line:Bombproof, tubeless compatible wheelset. If you want unabashed performance, and you like yellow wheels, get the Deemax's. You won't be disappointed. I'll write a more complete review in a few months.
