Weight, they are not light! Rough riding when on lockout. | | Similar Products Used: | none | | Bike Setup: | Ellsworth Moment L, XTR cranks, rears, Sram Rocket shifters, Fox Talas RLC, 5th Element Air, Time Carbon pedals | | Bottom Line: | Rather a cheap wheelset for an expensive bike, but has been worth the money :-) It is not light, but even after 3 years I can coast downhill faster than nearly anyone else. The Xero hubs are pretty tough and although I can hear that they are dying they are still rolling well. Spokes are very tough and have stayed true (even after the rear derailleur got caught in them!). If you use V brakes you may want to avoid these as the sidewall cuts very easily. Very likely best used in a softtail setup as I doubt that they will like full-on hardtail trashing, they are not forgiving and very rough when used in lockout mode.
Quite stiff laterally, at total weight of 240lbs for the bike+rider+gear they have done pretty ok.
Only 4 stars overall - they are definitely extremely cheap at 120$ but I think you need to make sure you are riding Fully and XC (or HT and non-agressive). I have used these in races, but I am no winner - it's for the fun. Other things have broken, but not the Elements.
I am now looking to replace them, but to be honest I have yet to come across anything other than the DT Swiss 1450 where I feel that the value for money is that high! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

They are still true and may just be OK for winter riding. The engagement is infrequent so we'll see if the rear hub lasts under pressure.
Hey - for $150 as a winter 29'er whelset - they're quite good enough for now.
I can only imagine how nice a lightweight 29'er wheelset will feel after this...
