Favoriate Trail:Southdowns
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $70.00
Purchased At:Wiggle - online cycl
Strengths:Reasonable weight, good grip on road wet/dry, easy to fit/remove just by hand, (good deal considering rims - mavix crossrides). Great price paid for pair, esp given discount.
Weaknesses:None- done over 1500 miles and only one puncture, happended after I'd taken the thorn out. Problems getting a replacement, as my back tyre side wall is damaged. Thick mud can beat it quite easily, as you'd expect.
Bike Setup:Built up Giant ATX Frame from Wiggle, soon to be replaced by TREK 8900 frame and build up
Bottom Line:A great tyre, esp if you do a lot of road work, e.g. getting to/from your trial rides - pump it hard for the road and let some out for the trail. I'm training for an off-road randonne and after having put these back on my bike, one of the riders asked if I was taking something- lets you put your energy into moving.

Favoriate Trail:Potowatomi, Pinckney, MI
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $23.00
Purchased At:Team Active, Battle Creek, MI
Strengths:Center strip lets you HAUL on the road! Not a bad cornering tire until it gets muddy ...
Weaknesses:... and when it's muddy, this tire slips and slides badly on the corners.
Similar Products Used:WTB Velociraptors, Jones ACX TL, others
Bike Setup:Trek Fuel EX 9.8
Bottom Line:Got this for slick rock in Moab, and it was FANTASTIC on the sandstone!! Then, riding on the road home after places like Moab Rim and Porcupine Rim, I was able to zip past MUCH stronger riders, thanks to the near-zero rolling resistance provided by that center strip. I don't know why more tires don't incorporate that design, it's very handy. I'm giving it 4 chilis overall because of its not-so-great performance in wet sand and mud, but the value rating ought to be six or seven chilis!

Date Reviewed: February 16, 2007
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:Great combo - pump'em hard and you're flying on the paved roads, let out some air and you've got grip on the trails
Weaknesses:As with all combo products - it's great at two things but not really excellent at any one...
Bike Setup:2005 Kona Caldera w. Avid BB7's etc.
Bottom Line:The tire I have is the one with the center strip and knobs on the side.

This is one great tire if you use your bike for both commuting and XC, which I do, and you couldn't be bothered with changing wheels.

I have put in about 3700 km on these tires, mostly on paved roads and they're not even worn half way down. AND only 1 flat tire so far!!

They need to be pumped hard for low-friction riding on paved roads. When going off-road you need to let out some air for the side knobs to get a good grip, and then you've got good traction.

Highly recommended!
