Strengths:Sticky compound is just what's needed on wet, slippery rocks and corners. Wide spaced knobs clear mud effortlessly, strong cornering knobs.
Weaknesses:If you're looking for low rolling resistance, this is probably not your tire, though I don't use it for cross country, so I can't comment.
Similar Products Used:High roller 2.7 is ok, Al mighty 2.6(currently using in back cuz 24"s are hard to find)is awesome, gazzi 2.6 so so
Bike Setup:'00 bighit w/ 5th element, boxxer team, evil 2 ring cg, 24"rim in back, blah blah blah 2.7 sticky up front
Bottom Line:This tire isn't the latest money maker for maxxis, but I don't care. At Plattekill it grips slimy rock and between roots really well, cleans mud the best so far.I convert all my tires with Stan's, run 19 to 23 psi, no flats. When your life depends upon a small patch of rubber, a fast wearing tire is a small price to pay. I'm not a racer, so rolling resistance is not an issue, however this would not be my first choice for cross country or trail riding. I've found a new favorite, will probably buy again when it wears out in 2-3 months.

Bottom Line:This review is for the 2.7" DH 50A Mobster Tires. I ride freeride about half the time and these tires have been wonderful. They are long lasting (use on shuttle runs, so they don't get worn out as fast) yet very grippy on wet rocks and roots. They seem to work well in both dry and wet conditions equally. The don't clog when muddy which is nice. I run them at 20 PSI with no flats (and I'm a big guy!). If I had to nit-pick, I would say as a front tire, I have washed out on hardpack a couple of times from the side knobs folding over...a trade-off for the soft compound I guess. But seriously, this tire has done everything I have asked of it.

The only thing id like them to do better is climb hills but heck, they are d/h specific and really they only slip just a little on loose stuff and occasional slick rocks and roots on uphill only. On downhill these things own the trail. Turn on a dime, roll real easy and grip really well. I think i have 60a dur. but not sure. Had them for a couple season and just now are starting to get worn. Never had a pinch flat and nothing can penetrate these babies...oh yea except that thorn that one time.

    -Rolls fast
    Weaknesses:-Vibrate excessively on concrete
    Similar Products Used:Specialized Adrenaline OEM
    Bike Setup:Non-OEM Rockhopper
Bottom Line:These are the 60 2.1K style--therefore they are the firmer and less grippy but much more durable compound. I was impressed with how fast they rolled on and off road and were a big upgrade from the Specialized Adrenaline OEM tires.

They did well in mud and soft sand, as well as clearing of dirt from their tread. There is an incredible amount of stability in the nastiest conditions off road, also the tread design clears mud and sand quickly.

The tires DO vibrate at high speeds on concrete and asphalt, but that's a trade-off for the grip.

Strengths:This is for the 40 duro/2.35 wired version. These tires with the sticky compound can do no wrong on loose or hardpack. The morons who have given this tire one flaming turd are so wrong.
As the worst bike handler on earth, these tires and most of the Maxxis 40 Duro line, are so grippie, that you can't tranverse wrong or ever fall on your ass with these tires on your rims. Its like having Hans Rey helping you steer through singletrack.
Weaknesses:Yes the 40 duro wear out faster. So get the 60 duro, you numbskulls. But the 40 are sweet and you cant go wrong as the
trail dust pings you in the face, ensuring the fact its doing it job. Yes it costs money, but doesnt every 40 duro tire cost a few bucks more than a Panaracer FireXC Pro?
    Similar Products Used:Kenda Sticky-E
Bike Setup:2.35 on a Santa Cruz Bullit, 2.1's with a Intense Spider
Bottom Line:Once you go Sticky-E or 40 duro, its hard to go back to 60 duro tires. They are superb in all conditions and the sidewalls keep your bike in check on those corners. Its like
having some kind of insurance when you ride, knowing that
you have to do some crazy jump or out of control stunt in order to crash, instead of just normal riding using both tires on the terra firma.

Weaknesses:These suckers roll slow(I Have the Super Tacky version). They have ramped knobs that speed 'em up, but the soft rubber slows 'em down.

When I first rode with Mobster on front I fell down in first corner because my front slipped an asphalt. When I tried it on downhill track, it held up quite good until first cornernig. It shines in braking on dirt. I would recomend everyone not buying this tire, it sucks. Better spend a little more money on Kenda. Kenda rules.

Bottom Line:Interesting tire. It's light, grips well, but wears too much between the nubs on the rear tire. I have good pressure (about 60 psi with a tube), but the day I put it on, it has worn down a lot. I find that the grip now on the rear has been comprimised, and it no longer works well. The tire needs more nubs on the center in order to the wear to cease. Good for front tire, but bad for rear.

Bottom Line:I rode these tires for the first time on Hawes Road in Mesa AZ. I thought I was going to die. They would not turn for anything on the loose over hardpack out there. Lateral grip was great, but turning gave the awful sensation of being on ice with absolutely no hook up what so ever. I tried transfering weight up front, but wound up severely eating the loose over hard pack. Several times I had the bars turned but kept going straight and narrowly missed some gnarly cactus action. They seemed to grip ok on the rear, hard for me to really notice since I was babying the front end all day. Needless to say I took them off and have been trying out the IRC Kujo 2.35. Much better, but still room for improvement. I didn't try these in any other environments except for loose over hard pack and rock. They seemed to stick well to rock, but as soon as a little bit of gravel was on the trail (you can't avoid it out here) I was sliding like I hit black ice. Thumbs down for a front tire where I ride. I am just glad I got them cheap.

Bottom Line:The rubber makes the difference and I didn't believe it would until I tried some other tires and WHOA what a surprise. I'm currently running the Panaracer Fire FRs and the tread is more aggressive than the Mobsters but the stickier rubber makes the Mobsters actually more effective particularly in wet, technical riding where little slips and slides can be very unwelcome.

I had the Mobster 2.5 and ran them at 40 psi (I'm heavier at 250lbs).

These tires have performed well and saved my a** more than a few times in mud, loam, roots, rocks and even dry sandy stuff.

Strengths:Grips VERY well, corners well, looks PIMP and you NEVER EVER get pinch flats. Whoever rated this product 1/5 because they "got 5 flats out of the 8 times they rode this tire" is a TOTAL DIP SH*T. Of course it's all because of the tire! I always stall on ledges which involves the ledge passing through the tire and touching the rim, and NEVER did I get pinch flats. I don't know what these people were thinking when they wrote that they got 5 pinch flats out of 8 rides. Maybe they're on crack.
Weaknesses:I must agree that the tire wears pretty fast, but isn't that the price to pay to have SOFT COMPOUND? If the tire is 50A, obviously it's going to wear off fast. Why don't you just buy 70A which will wear off in 5 years but will not even grip at all? Use your brain guys.

They wear out fast I hear some of you whining, well they're 50A compound, which indicates that they're SOFT COMPOUND. Obviously soft compound wears off fast.

Never broke free and were very predictable in handling. I ran them at about 35 PSI and they never even pinch flated in some of the rock gardens!! Climbing loose and rocky trails were a breeze with this tire it never lost traction and just went up the hill easy!! I can't say enough about these tires they are great for XC. A good set up with 2.1 in the back and 2.35 in the front.Tracks really good.Cornering has been good with little breaking away.I'll update this after I get some more time on these tires.I'm hoping to get 6 months out of them for the price I paid, but I've only had a couple of tires last that long. Not a racing combo, but good for most trail riding.

    Bottom Line:Review for the 2.1 XC(single ply)mounted on rear.
This tire was recommended by LBS for good performance as well as working with Stan's.
Mounted easily and sealed in a snap. Ride was smooth and outperformed my old WTB Velociraptor. Climbed and cornered awesome! But only for two months! I got used to it's superior handling and then "POOF" it was gone!
I'll try it again if they come up with a longer wearing compound. 'Till then, I'm back on the Velociraptor: predictable handling and I usually get about a year out of 'em.
This tire is great if you only ride once a week (I'm out at least three).
4 flamers for overall (performance) one for value (wear)

Strengths:Maxxis Mobster DH 2.7 super tacky. Lots of grip, looks good, 2 ply casing really holds up. 2.7 size awsome for DH, had no punctures yet hope not to have any.
Weaknesses:only that they are a bit hard to get on some rims. Wear to quick.
