Bottom Line:Nope. Not a good tire. Once you slice the sidewall you're stranded unless you carry a spare tire. I've shredded two of these things in six months. I guess it would be OK on fire roads or you never drop through rock gardens.

Strengths:Great front directional tread. Rolls pretty fast. But still offers nice carving grip and braking. Light weight and huge air volume for it's size casing. Its a 2.0" but is sized 2.3".
Weaknesses:Not really any if you use it for XC on trails, and not AM / drops.
Similar Products Used:Panaracer Cinders, Kenda Nevegals, Bontrager Jones ACX, Spesh Captains, WTB Weirwolfs.
    Bike Setup:Stumpy FSR Expert
Bottom Line:I run the Resolution up front and replaced the back with the Captain 2.0". I didn't think there were any problems with the Resolution in the back. I just loved it in the front so much that I wanted to save my rear as a spare front for later on. As it turns out the captain is a better rear tire IMO.

The 2.0 Res has similar braking and grip to the 2.35 WTB Weirwolf up front, but none of the draw backs. Much better rolling resistance and not squirmy on hard pack, and it weights less.

Definitely a great tire for dry climates. Seems to work ok in soft spring trails, but really shines on hard pack dry trails. I would probably be looking at another tire if I were on humid forest trails with deep top soil.

Bottom Line:This review is for the Resolution Pro 2.0. I beg to differ with many comments below. I've owned different iterations of this tire (named Adrenaline at first and then Resolution) and have always been happy with their all-around performance. We have mainly technical trails here in Quebec (roots, rocks, ruts, muddy/soft soil, etc.) and this tire (as a front tire application) has always made me feel secure. It's pretty light (575 g for a 2.0), cheap, has big volume, efficient directional knobs that make the wheel go where it is pointe and is durable. I've never experienced any problems with the sidewalls, whereas I got sidewalls punctures and ripping with my Michelin tires and the «iceskating» problem described by another person here maybe related to an inadequate pressure rather than to the lack of traction of the tire itself. I've also been riding this tire as a rear tire on two demo bikes for a few hours on soft and muddy soil (november weather in Quebec can be pretty harsh) and was impressed with its holding and hugging the ground at around 32 psi. I keep buying this tire each year because it gives me entire satisfaction for what I use it for. Highly recommended.

that due to the spacing of the knobs on the tire that goat head thorns fall in-between the knobs and cause punctures.
Maybe they are good tires if you don’t have goat heads in your area! Maybe they aren't the correct tire for the application in which I am using.

I got a flat on my specialized pros, replaced the tube and put in a liner and got two flats on the next ride. I have ridden this spot over 50 times last year without getting a flat.

Maybee its just bad luck... but tubes are starting to cost more than new tires. Besides I dont care how much the tire weighs as long as it keeps rolling. Cant ride flats!

Similar Products Used:IRC Mythos, Serfas gators, some random old school specialized tire that the knobs kept tearing off of in corners

Bottom Line:I rode these while I was working as a camp counselor in colorado for the summer. I loved them on the dry hardpack and gravel of the trails and roads we went on with the kids. They roll fast, stick like glue, saved my butt once while I was bombing through a set of gravely washouts at a diagnal on a backroad...I thought for sure I was a gone'r, but these things stuck like epoxy to carbon fiber and pulled my sorry butt out of a would be painful crash. Buuuuuuuut, on the negative, I did pinch flat on the front (I only bought one, had it in the front with a Mythos XC (front one) in the back). I entered into a section where you ride down some stair steps, stop and pivot on a rock, then ride out of the section. I rode the stairs, while decending I came to the stop point of this, and my pack (a good 15 pounds, extra water, food, and med pack since I was a counselor) shifted forward, and with me already weighing in at 235 (6'2")it was enough to pinch it. I have only tried this tire on one ride in which it was wet. A hardpack trail that had recently been rained on. I didn't wipe out because of it, but then again I wasn't pushing hard. But for as open of a design as it is, it really packs up with mud. If you are a lighter rider, 180 and below, and ride in drier climates, go for this tire. I don't think you will be disappointed. 3 for value, cause I think there are better bangs for the buck out there, and 4 overall cause it needs some stiffer sidewalls for us heavier guys and it needs a wet weather performance revision. But saving my butt through the ruts keeps it still fairly high in my book!

Bottom Line:These tires are excellent....dunno what happened with the prior users on this page. I've pounded these guys for almost two years and never had an issue as far as dependability. The Resolutions are fast...smooth....and have excellent cornering grip. The key is running a low pressure 35 psi.

These tires do extremely well in all conditions....hard pack, loose hardpack, sand...and loam. I thought the Nevegals were the best, but these guys are smoother and faster and have as much if not more grip than those. Id strongly recommend these tires for those that want grip.....everywhere. The Resolutions also have a softer ride at low psi's for those without good suspension. Hope Specialized doesn't get rid of them.

Bottom Line:I'd expected that a 2.3" tire that came standard on a 6" travel bike would hold up well to rock gardens. I was wrong! A couple of rocky rides have shredded the rear tire. Longevity of the tread is fair at best.

On a more positive note, this is a great tire on dry hardpack. I'd suggest it if this is what you ride (though you probably wouldn't want a tire this wide...). If you're looking for an all-around tire, however, look elsewhere.

Slow rolling, no traction over roots, loose in corners. I've washed out more times on these tires than I can count. They are the worst tires I've ever ridden and I've ridden a wide variety. I've never wanted to replace a set of tires so bad in my life.

The terrain that I've been riding in varies from hardpack, loose dirt/sand, rock beds, roots, and mud. Never have I felt comfortable with these tires. I'm really dissappointed because I've had nothing but good experiences with Specialized products.

Bottom Line:This is an updated review to a previous one. I've had the tires on mny rig for about 6 months now, and I have a better idea of them.
I just replaced them with Weirwolfs yesterday, and am keeping the D2s as everydays, and my Weirwolfs as racers.
So I now have one boot on the inside of the rear, and 3 gashes on the sidewall. One will need to be rebooted before remounting them. They hold up to almost anything. Snake bites are rare becuase of the diameter. But one good run through a rock garden and listen well for the hissing of the tube coming out of the side.
I dind't have much confidence in cornering in these things, but then thought about it, and they're racing tires, right? So I leaned more and more over one ride and got the indication that the more you lean, the more they want to cut into the turn. I was just hesitant to get onto the outer tread blocks, I think. But they do their job.
They're good enough that I am keeping them for my non-racing tires, but not good enough that I'll buy another pair.

Tire slides predictably but grip levels aren't outstanding.

The Resolution is fat as hell for the size it says it is, which is cool, cause it's squishy. Barely fits into my roof rack. I'm waiting for a rock or root to gash the side of the tire out and leave me dissapointed, but it never happened on the last set. The worst feature and it is why I would never recdommend them to anyone is the ease at which the side walls are damaged. Apart from being thin the side walls protrude too far outside the tread which makes them very vulnerable to cuts. I have now ruined both front and rear tyre after less than two months just riding trails in Southern England!. Both tyres got 2" cuts in the walls resulting in blowouts. Bottom Line:This review is for the redesigned 07 Resolution 2.3. I've been running High Rollers for a while and have been pretty happy with them, but they're not really cut out for dry CA trails. I decided to get the Resolutions rather than Ignitors or something because the Sun DS1 rim I have out back is almost impossible to get a tire on...I figured the Reso's 120tpi casing would make it easier to mount.

My first impression was a little underwhelming. Mounted up, the Resolution looks like a road tire next to a Nevegal or even a 2.35 High Roller...the casing is nice and fat, but the tread is very low. Tread width is almost the same as the HR 2.35, but the casing is bigger. Also, the side knobs are easy to flex by hand, which had me a little worried.

A couple of miles in, and all my doubts were pretty much proven wrong. The Resolution accelerates and climbs much better than I would have expected from a tire with ramped center/intermediate knobs. Braking traction is very good, and cornering grip is phenomenal. The Resolution can hold a line through loose-over-hardpack, gravel, or dusty pine duff. It will even lean over pretty far on pavement. Its rolling resistance is pretty minimal and overall it's one of the best tires I've found for dry loose California trails.

Overall, I'm very impressed with this tire. I've never been a fan of Specialized tires before, but they really nailed it with this one. My one concern is long-term durability...several people on the forums have mentioned that this tire wears pretty fast, which makes sense given the ramped center knobs and soft 55 duro shoulder tread. But for 35 bucks, I'm not going to worry about it too much. I wish the tire had a deeper tread and a more defined shoulder, but that's just personal preference...all in all, the Reso is a great choice for all-around riding in dry weather.

Bottom Line:Put these tires on and headed first to Buffalo Creek...smooth and sandy hardpack with lots of burn area to ride through. Had em rear and they were so big, I was getting small rocks stuck between the frame and tire tread, thus dumping gravel into my linkage. Not good. Especially on a brand new Blur, which mostly locked up my linkage and even scratched some of the anodize on my frame. Lesson: the model I had was way too big...2.1 was more like 2.4 and too big. Swapped it up front and headed to Winter Park. First thing I noticed is that it was very soft and comfy. Then, I noticed it rolls fast. THEN, I noticed that too much Mojo in the turns and the side knobs start wandering...usually in looser stuff. Tweaking tire pressure helped, but still don't feel confident in high-speed turns. Look at the side knobs...relatively wimpy and prone to fold and deform under pressure. In the really sandy turns, these want to dive in and wash out. Better on hardpack and fast with good braking traction. Still on the lookout for a better front tire, something that can better the Mutanos which I have loved so much. Oh yeah, also, wearing tremendously after 450 miles. Not cool.

    06 Spec Stumpy Sworks:fox,sramXO,avid, chris king...(new 2.3)
Bottom Line:I love the tire but this review is more of a heads up to those who have used them and are planning on contuing to use them in 07 or those who may be following someone's recomendation...
I have run these tires on single track, hardpack, rocky sections, 24 races, etc...and I think they are a great tire for the desert...muddy conditions-I don't have a clue. They grip well up hill and cornering and roll great on the straights. I have no complaints and plan to continue to roll them all this season.
Now for the heads up...The old sizes ran HUGE...the 2.2 was as big as some other 2.4 sizes out there. I went down and picked up some new 2.1's this week to replace the worn 2.1 from last year and there is a huge difference in size. I ended up taking them back and grabbing 2.3's to get the same 'size'. The new 07 Resolutions also are more round in profile than before but so far the handling is still in line with the previous year. Keep this in mind if you are looking to replace old with new.

Strengths:Superb Traction, Rolls Fast, Wide Footprint
    Weaknesses:Sidewalls are thin
Similar Products Used:Specialized RollX, Tioga Factory DH, IRC Trailbear, and others
Bottom Line:This tire works great as a front tire for desert conditions. It feels great in the corners in sandy and loose conditions. The casing is huge on this tire and can be run at different pressures to change the ride. The sidewalls of this tire could be an issue but I have not experienced a problem in about 60 miles.

Strengths:good volume to weight ratio, low rolling resistance
Weaknesses:the sidewalls are way to thin for rocky trails
Bottom Line:may certainly be a very good tyre in gentle conditions but don't expect this tyre to last long in severe rocky conditions (several friends of mine had the same problems and destroyed this tyre as quickly as I did)

Strengths:Excellent Traction in dry conditions. (Never ridden these in wet conditions so don't know.) High Volume. This tire is huge, a measured 2.4 inches width, as big as a Trail Bear 2.5.
Weaknesses:Durability when used as a rear tire. The side knobs were starting to disintegrate after only a couple of months. The sidewalls were seriously stressed and abraded, even though tire pressure was checked and adjusted before every ride. Tire failed on sidewall with tube protruding through.
Similar Products Used:IRC Trail Bear 2.25 and 2.5, Panaracer Cinder, Continental Vertical Pro (recommended).
Bike Setup:Trek Liquid 2003 with Race Face Diabolis riser bar and short stem for better control on downhills, Performance Loco Wheels for better durability.
Bottom Line:Amazing traction but will not last under a heavy rider on rocky, technical trails because the sidewalls are too thin and not well protected.
