Try riding fast down stairs. Of course you are going to get a pinch flat running a fast aggressive because it's fast tire at low pressure. I recently switched to XC fire pro and they suck ass they are so much slower it's painful to think about my old mosquitoes and how they would bounce gracefully from line to line. the XC pros have better traction but I'm not sure if that's because they are that great or because I can't get going nearly as fast without mashing the pedals. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

It was summer when i was using them and many flats due to thorns and rocky singletrack made me purchase the IRC's(my riding partner and brother-in -law also had the same problem with his)Put them on my Jamis after doing a firetrail race with the IRC's which is not far from my house to see the differance. I am not a shaved leg lycra wearing racer and only went in the race for fun, but even i could tell the differance. The first half of the race is mainly climbing and that is where these tyres came into there own.I was not changing into the lower gear that i did in the race and did not get off and push like i did (and others) on the steeper parts of the course. I didnt time myself but it sure felt as fast with less effort with these tyres on.
Bottom line. Use them for there intended purpose and recommended inflation rate. These are for use on dirtroads or smooth terrain. They are quick. If you use them around town they will wear out in no time and not have the grip as road tyres.
To remind me of this i left them on for a night ride on singletrack with a few rocks and it wasnt long before i was changing yet another tube. | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

BAD, BAD, BAD idea. Thin sidewalls, no grip, not at all durable. STAY AWAY FROM THESE. I'm a XC racer and had these at the recommended pressure and got pinch flats front and rear off a drop no more than 1/8 the height of the wheel. Thought it was my tubes at first but tried different tyres with same tubes and no problem, even off bigger drops.
Don't let me fool you, I'm a 55kg 14y.o. so no overloading weight issues there. Don't touch these. Go for the supermarket tyres, they're better! Braking and turning isn't very good either. SEVERELY LACKS GRIP WHEN CLIMBING, I'm getting wheel spin on grass slopes I mean come on Hutchinson, get it right!!!
If you got these on a bike, replace them as soon as they've worn out (give it a month). You are wasting money if you buy these!
I don't even want to rate these, they've got 0 chillis in my opinion but I have to so you can read this.

1) Too much "exposed flesh" between knobs
2) Weak compound-Broke knobs constantly, and would wash out on power corners
3) Super-thin sidewalls-I am amazed at how thin the walls are...never seen side walls so weak. Even at higher PSIs I had trouble cornering confidently without the tires folding.
4) Pinch flats-over the past four days (three of them being riding days) I have been through three tubes because of pinch flats!!! I don’t think, they are only for racers; XC riders or weekend warriors can enjoy their high performance, low rolling resistance and “light feeling” also. Aggressive Freeriders, Downhillers should better use another tires.
I don’t think, they have a short life. I have ridden 1200 Km (750 miles) to date and I have shown no more wear than what I would consider to be normal. I don’t expect more than 5000 Km (3200 miles) from a tire, and I think, they will do it.
Ridding with them is a pleasure: low rolling resistance, large volume (they don’t feel like 2,0 tires!), absorbing, responsive, excellent traction, predictable by cornering or fast ridding…everything is good. Besides, I had only 2 pinch flat with them, although I ride always off road. I use them with 40 psi (as recommended by Hutchinson)
As resume of their characteristics:
-Weight: Excellent
-Rolling resistance: Excellent
-Traction and grip: Excellent
-Wet terrain soft: Excellent, probably the best tire I have ever used
-Wet terrain gravel, small stones: Excellent
-Wet Terrain hardpack: Excellent
-Wet Terrain Stones: Uhm, weak point, slide more than desired
-Mud: Very good…but they can’t do miracles, mud is always mud!
-Dry terrain soft: Very good, but they wear out quickly
-Dry terrain gravel, small stones: very good, but again they wear out quickly
-Dry terrain hard, stone: very good, but there are many better tires
-Asphalt: It is not their element. Very fast wear out, and better avoid wet asphalt!
In any case, YOU GET GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR: it is an off road XC tire. Using these tires in Asphalt / commute riding is like freeride with a road bike. Aggressive ridding is also not recommendable. In any case I can’t also understand, why some brands use it as original equipment in their bikes, because they are not all round tires.
I would buy them again and recommend them for every XC rider

Only tire I've tried that sheds a reasonable amount of mud.

The new Bulldog looks more like an updated Mosquito with a better marketing name. Hmmm...

It's sort of a mock mountain bike tire, with it's big stubby tread and all, but it's more of a road tire.
I liked the tire for the first 30 minutes, when I got the wonderful surprise of getting mud all over my pants. Just today I went riding through some dirt and when I went to hop the curb, all the mud flew off at me. It kinda scares me when I'm in mid-air and I have to close my eyes because some dirt just went into it.
My disc brakes overwhelm these tires too easy. I dont know if it's just the brakes, but I always find my rear brake skidding if I apply any pressure to it.
The tire holds pavement good around corners, but I'm sure not looking for roadholding going out MTB'ing. I shouldnt be able to throw corners at it like I'm Lance Armstrong and come out still on my bike.
My best advice is to use these tires, make sure you keep over 25 psi in them, and replace them with something else when the time comes. They arent worth a dime in my mind. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

Then, just for fun (and to remind myself how useless skinny-girlie-man tires are) I put a little Panarace Trailblaster 2.1 on back and a Mosquito Air Lite 2.0 on front.
The Mosquito is tall and narrow. It has a VERY supple casing (scary). I weigh 185 and I run the tire at 31psi.
The tire looked so narrow in front of me, I thought I would bite it at the first rut or root I didn't hit straight on. To my shock, I was wrong. I'm going over all the obstacles I used to but uphill climbs are much easier. Can a pound or two of tire make such a difference??? Apparently. Haven't pinched yet. Now I have this combo on my wife's bike (she weighs 115 and I use 22psi) and she loves it.
These light tires smoke. A few years back light = flats. Had good luck so far with these.
I'd give them four stars but I want to balance the unfairly low rating, so five it is.

Don't expect these to last 6 months of riding if you ride any jagged rocks. Rear tire is D.O.A. in less than 50 hrs. ride time - low ride time this year due to changing careers & working 2 jobs. Tire wear will be significantly enhanced if you have to actually ride asphalt a few miles to your favorite trail.
Side knobs were missing on the rear tire after my first off-road ride, and last week, enough of the inner casing came off with a knob to cause the tube to herniate through the tire causing a flat. I used the "credit card fix" to limp home (card between tire and tube).
Who should use these? Someone who wants a light tire for racing that you'd have to maybe replace after every other race - who wants that? I won't be seeking out anything with the Hutchinson name on it for a replacement. I wouldn't even buy them for $10 each.

Designed primarily to save weight for racers, this tire is now being included as original equipment on many bikes in order to make the overall weight of bikes seem attractive to consumers. I can personally attest to the fact that these tires feature some of the weakest compound I've ever seen- I had three punctures on my first three rides, all while running at the ideal tire pressure. Furthermore, the inside of the tires feature a grooved pattern that will cause your tubes to experience slow leaks on a consistant basis.

Bottom line they work and work well climb like a F****ing mountain goat and hook up even with no tread left(Just nubs).And to the guys that can't get them to work for you check your riding style or body english .I'll give'em a big 6 if the scale went that high but 5 woks too Peace!! The longetivity is not really a factor the faster it wears out the stickier it is, that's my belief on tires. Buy these and put them on the front they're fast and up to the job!
