Description:Cross Country Compound feature a 65 durometer which is slightly softer than traditional XC rubber, but hard enough that it still rolls fast. C3 is slight slower rebounding with excellent dampening characteristics which provide better traction for cornering and climbing. It also has less deflection through rocky sections which stay in contact with the ground under braking better than a standard compound. Also offered in SR Sticky Rubber. Size: 26 x 2.25". Kevlar. Blackwall.

    Favoriate Trail:Mammoth Mountain Bike Park
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Purchased At:Came with the bike
Strengths:Good grip until manufacturing defect made it unridable.
Weaknesses:Bad casing. Stared to rub the seatstays. Initially, thought the wheel needed trueing but it was a bad tire. SOL. Poor QC. Lasted less than three months.
Similar Products Used:Kenda Nevegal 1.95, Panaracer Fire 2.4, Conti Vert Pro, WTB Weirwolf
Bike Setup:Intense 5.5, Maverick DUC32 fork, Mavic 717 rims running Stans tubeless, Chris King hubs and headset
Bottom Line:The Kenda Nevegals and Panaracer Fires have been awesome tires on Mammoth's rocky and loooose trails. Will not be spending cash on Intense tires. Took them back to the LBS and they said "no replacement because I had rode them" for about two months, but most of that were XC trails before the MTB park opened.

    Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Tire volume; Grip; Tread design; Weight
Weaknesses:Quality control at the factory; Weak casing
Similar Products Used:A variety of tires over the past 15 years.
Bike Setup:Intense Tracer w/ Push valved shock, Fox Vanilla RLC fork, Mavic 717 on Hope hubs, Raceface Turbine crank, & XT 8 speed because it's still better than 9 speed.
Bottom Line:Once you find the right air pressure the tire works great in sand, loose rocks, and hardpack. I weigh 200 lbs. and run 35 lbs. pressure with few problems mainly due to the higher volume. I live in the desert so I can't speak to performance on slick roots or mud. The 2 complaints I have are quality control from the factory and longevity. One of the tires had a serious wobble which was only noticable on the road and smooth hardpack. Also the knobs tear off pretty early. I live and ride where sharpe jagged rocks are the norm and torn knobs are expected, but this tire didn't seem to last as long as other brands I've had. I general the tire is not a bad tire and I would consider buying it again it if were on sale.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Purchased At:ChainReactionCycles
    Strengths:Weight and Grip
    Weaknesses:None so far!!!
Similar Products Used:Nearly every tyre manufacturer
    Bike Setup:Orange Sub 3 Pro
Bottom Line:I have tried these tyres on my local trail. They are brilliant. Grip on stone, rocks and even the dreaded roots. Just superb so far. Climbing is so grippy and the rolling resistance is low. They have transformed my riding. Will definatley buy these tyre again when they wear out, hopefully not too soon!!!

    Date Reviewed: May 19, 2006
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Price Paid: $35.00
    Purchased At:different places
Strengths:Very Grippy tire with probably the best cornering traction i have ever riden. The 2.25 has this amazing rounded profile that just hooks up and never lets go.
Weaknesses:prone to punctures from thorns... can be shredded in really gnarly sharp rock garden descents.
Similar Products Used:Intense System 4, SPeCK-alized(various), many other crap
Bike Setup:Enduro Pro, Mavic F219, Psylo SL, Easton Carbon DH, XTR rear, LX front, speedplay Drillium platforms...
Bottom Line:This tire is designed to be a light weight tire with all mountain capability. It really does kill the trail and will roll just about anything you put under it. Its only weakness is that it was designed with a lot of attention paid to weight savings and as a result it can be a bit "fragile" under certain circumstances. I once had 3 thorn [punctures on one ride and on another occasion lost a lug on a ride.

On the other hand, it is a nice fat tire with a great light feel and fast roll on the climbs.

I also believe the issues with these tires shedding lugs on the trail have since been solved. My last pair of these lasted a season and still have about 40% tread left on em with no missing lugs.

I think I will go back to this tire again after these wear out(currently on the system 4) becuase they are so great at high speed cornering in the loose california dirt and also hook up great in the rock garden stuff. The system 4 is truly a fantastic tire, but not as grippy in fast loose corners. (But really almost a DH tire otherwise - NEVER had a single flat yet on the system 4)

Anyway, try out the CC 2.25's and they'll probably be the standard by which you judge many other lesser products.

4 chillis each cause they're pricey and they do wear out kinda quick.

    Favoriate Trail:A Line
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Purchased At:Bikeman
    Strengths:-Grippy up climbs
-Large volume eats up rock gardens
    -Sheds mud reasonably well
Weaknesses:Tread profile not too aggressive, doesn't inspire much confidence railing turns
Bike Setup:Ellsworth Id, the usual zoot
Bottom Line:These tires have seen mostly soft, rooty, and rocky trails with some hardpack time. They've been adequate but not as much of a noticeable effect on ride quality as when I first slapped on Smoke & Dart way way back when. Most beneficial for me is the volume, I don't think twice about pointing my wheels into a rock wonderland at speed. Not sure I would buy them again if I could find similar volume with more aggressive tread.

    Price Paid: $40.00
    Purchased At:Two Wheel Tango
Strengths:Cornering ability, works well in a variety of conditions, high volume. Mounted easily with Stan's Notubes.
    Weaknesses:Heavy.
Similar Products Used:Mutano raptor 2.4, Conti Vert pro 2.3
Bike Setup:y2k Jekyll 900sl, king iso hubs, mavic x317 rims...
Bottom Line:For a large tire, it has a remarkabley 'precise' feel-- definitely not like the Vert pro or mutano raptor. It corners well; although it is hard to predict once it does start to slide. Breaking traction is excellent. My only real gripe is that it is heavy!

    Strengths:2002 model (graywall)
    Sticky rubber- 60 durometer.
    Excellent traction.
Good ride & manuverability on gravel, sand, dirt, thick grass.

    2003 - (Blackwall)
    SR & C3 rubber.
    Very durable & strong.
    Good trailbike tires.
    Reliable performance & good wear.
    Weaknesses:2002 model(Gray sidewall)-
Was sketchy on hardpack cornering & had weak sidewall & treadwall & 60 duro rubber wears out a bit fast.

2003 - not as 'grippy' as the '02 model.
Bottom Line:This tire has had 2 incarnations.
    - The 2002 'gray wall" series.
    - Anything after the 2002 year, with black sidewall.

    2002 -
I have had a 50/50 love affair with the '02 model CC 2.25. The tire rides extremely well, but the sidewall & tread both split on my front, forcing me use the "Cliff Bar wrapper" repair. The second one, which was mounted on the rear, was, and still is excellent & sticks to most any surface.
Two same tires -- different results.

    2003 -
The 2003 revised (blackwall) CC 2.25 is much better, although it uses the C3 & SR rubber compounds, which haven't been as grippy as the 60 duro 2002 CC 2.25.

    Opinion:
There are no graywall '02 series tires available anymore...good! I've heard too much, about "hit & miss" performance from this batch.
The blackwall Intense CC 2.25 tire is a better tire, overall. Yeah, there may be a problem getting Stan's sealant to stick, but I've had no probs with the '03 model tires, and they still have a lot of rubber left on the tread, despite them being over a year old.
I think that they're worth trying, if you're looking for fatter trailbike tires.
Intense is a small company, but they're not out to rip-off anyone. Sometimes it takes time to get some warranty results because they don't have a lot of stock in the warehouse...it's all in bikeshops, so bear with them.

I'm glad Intense still offers this tire, because it's the only 2.25 I use. Much more grippy than the heavier Intense System 4 Tire (2.25"), and it grabs when you need it to grab.

    Date Reviewed: March 22, 2004
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:Great feel on DH. Absorbs rocks better than any other tire I have tried and feels like I have another 1" of travel. Hooks up well on hardpack and on loose sand and dirt.
Weaknesses:A little heavy, but the strenghts make up for it.
Similar Products Used:Conni Explorer, Escape. Ritchey Alpha, Omega, Z max. Bontrager Jones.
Bike Setup:Moots YBB air. Mavic 317 discs with hugi 240 hubs and straight spokes.
Bottom Line:The best all around tire for rock, hard pack, and loose conditions. I use the 1 in front and the 2 in the rear unless strictly hardpack and then I switch to the 2 in front and the 3 in the rear. We don't get much mud in So Cal and when we do the trails are closed so I can not comment on the mud. All other tires feel like you are councing off of rocks compared to these. Buy them if you need a tire for mixed conditions and you have to take rocks or roots on the DH. Don't buy them if you prefer a pogo stick.

Bottom Line:I rode the bike for a minimal amount of time, and was shocked to fined the inertube flat, snake bites. 4 tubes have gone flat on 5 rides, not a good count. but I probable rode them to low, and i hit a lot of hard surfaces. a great tire for those who run high presser, and arnt prone to riding in to hard square surfaces.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $50.00
    Purchased At:Cycling Concepts
    Strengths:Super Traction where-ever you go
Weaknesses:Very weak sidewalls, expensive. (Must inflate to max?)
    Similar Products Used:Panaracers, WTB...
    Bike Setup:Jekyll 800 Disc on 223 rims.
Bottom Line:While initially impressed, I've got to wonder why the sidewall blew out on my ride and gave my tire a gouda. Ridden some tires for years without replacing. Flats, yes. Torn sidewall? Heck no. My bike is only 1 month owned so I know it's not because of a worn rim.

I'll try one more set before I give the thumbsdown. I've also got to wonder if you must inflate to very high pressures to avoid lateral "roll" of the tire. Tire was inflated to 48# when it 'blew.' I chose these tires over the originals on my new ride and they cost $50 a piece so they're kinda pricey to be replacing so soon after buying them.

    Favoriate Trail:Very Technical
Duration Product Used:Tested or demo'ed only
Strengths:EXCELLENT! I have only used them once during a race and I couldn't believe how well they worked. I didn't have a problem getting traction up hills, even on wet clay, and braking was just as good, not once did I skid.
It is available in differing compounds.
Weaknesses:a little heavy for racing, although the traction available compensates for this.
Similar Products Used:Nothing has come close
Bike Setup:2002 Norco Fireball. Rock Shox Duke SL. Time ATAC pedals. Mavic UST Crossroc wheels.
Bottom Line:fantastic when it is wet, heavier then other tires but they are a lot lighter than DH mud tires.
