The action is smooth and well damped in both directions with no "kickback" like you get with the Thudbuster.
The only bad thing I could find in my testing of this post was the saddle positioning.
If you position the saddle too far back on the rails in the clamp you tend to make the damper rod flex and it causes stiction with a resulting lack of movement...so you have to position the saddle at the mid-point or slightly further forward to let the damper rod slide smoothly in it's travel path.
Now this is a non-event *if* you don't need a bit more cockpit room and your KOP is correct with a straight seatpost.. but if you find that you would like to get your saddle a little further towards the rear on the rails, then this seatpost is NOT for you.
Apart from this rather major problem, the Nitro Pro is a very fine product.
It out performs every other suspension post currently on the market simply because of the engineering and superb damping action that it employs. It is ultra smooth and really does a great job of soaking up small and medium ripples , roots and bumps on the trail.
It's ONE failing is the saddle positioning you are forced to use with this post to make it function as designed.
I give it a good score because of the design and excellent damping action of the mechanism, but the whole idea is rather let down due to it's limited saddle positioning.

Alumaline include detailed instructions that should be heeded. The key is to place the seat as far forward as possible so your weight will be over the seatpost. With your weight forward the dampening of the seatpost will engage very comfortably. I ride all year if it is dry and over 40 degrees and I appreciate the dampening that this seatpost provides especially since I weight near 200 pounds. than others. Well I ‘ve had it long enough to give it
a review and I am very pleased with its performance.
Almost all off-road conditions whether large rocks,
pot holes, tree branches or small rocks are completely absorbed and without any sudden rebounding. Movement
is silk smooth all the time.
I tried a friends stock factory sus.seatpost for comparison - not even close the shock absorption of
the NitroPro. Definitely top five material.

now I have a NitroPro. This seatpost is much more responsive in comparison and stiction is hard to
detect. The NitroPro just moves much more freely
over all terrain - a result of a lower spring rate.
Oil dampening is a real treat I stay seated no matter
what I ride over and the no wear design does work as claimed. I have not had to buy any parts to rebuild
it as with other seatposts. Gas suspension is the
way to go I will not go back to elastomers. Anyone
who wants an upgrade in comfort, off road or street,
should buy this product.

i looked at all the suspension seat posts on this web page.
the nitrpro was just the best choice for me, the customer support was great, i was able to talk to one of the guys that designed the seat post, they gave me instant answers to any of the questions i had.
they helped me with all facets of the ordering and even double checked my stock seat post size to make sure the shim would fit (i was on travel and didnt know my seat post size)
when i rode the nitro pro for the first time it was like heaven the seat post absorbed little and big bumps like a champ.
the cool whooshing noise when the seat post slowly extends to its full hight is nice and no rebound... 0... none... no feeling like you are going over the bars after that big bump.
it smooths out almost any bump, the tension adjustment is great and easy to use, have yet to feel any sticktion.
the seat post does have a 1 to 2 degree lateral movement while pedaling, it really doesnt bother me it sorta of flows with my natural rythem while pedaling.
over all the seat post looks and rides great.
one of the best purchases i have made since i got the bike.

lets me choose the ride I need for single track or for street riding. Play adjustment works quiet well. Used adjustment only once in 6 months. Not at all bouncy
like other s.seatposts. If you want complete shock absorption without any bounce then NitroPro will give
you that. Plan on buying a second one for my wife.

Far more absorption than other posts I have tried.
There is no movement away from handle bars and no
pogo effect. Not the lightest post but I will accept
a few ounces more in exchange for feeling very little
in the seat. No problems with design a well thought
out product.

I ride to work each day and hit the
trails on the weekends.
This post tames the most ferocious trails. I can ride just about any trail in comfort even the tough ones. Easy to preload with flat blade screw driver - no more searching for special hex wrench. Pretty much service free so far I have not had to lube it or anything. Have not felt any sticktion yet, a big bonus!
Shotpeen finish looks great and positively does not slip in frame. Quality is very high you can hear the gas spring quietly working inside as you push down on the seat and it rebounds a soft woosh is heard - Neeto! No creaks or rubbing noises just smooth as silk movement. Excellent!
