Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $60.00
Purchased At:colonel's bicycles - fort worth
Strengths:light...stiff...good looks...removable faceplate with three-bolt attachment...
Weaknesses:bolts that attach stem to fork have loosened...nuke proof customer service blows...
Similar Products Used:no-name brand...
Bike Setup:chameleon frame...manitou mars c...lx/xt drivetrain...
Bottom Line:granted i have only dealt with my bike shop, who have in turn dealt with them, but no one is ever around to answer the phone at nuke proof...it took over a month to get stem in once ordered which was a nightmare...got wrong size/colour...when stem bolt loosened, they were no help only telling me to try and keep it tight...if the stem did not look/handle well, i would have tried something new already...

Bottom Line:i was in need of a new stem to lengthen out my cockpit and i remember hearing that nukeproof stems were made in 150mm lengths, so i made an effort to find one. over christmas i found some on clouseout at a lbs that was going out of business. i bought it for $20 and emailed nukeproof when i got home to see about getting a longer stem. i promptly received an email from a guy who's name i forget telling me what he had in stock and that i could exchange it in unused condition. i sent it in and received my new black stem in a week.

the stickers thing is correct. i sprayed some clear acrylic paint on it before i installed it. one secret, apply several coats because crashes may still take some paint off. talk about a great company, too bad the stems don't get enough exposure.

Bottom Line:If you are thinking about buying it, stop thinking and reach for the wallet. You could bottom out your fork, and taco your wheel and you still couldn't wake this stem from its nuclear winter hibernation. Oh, did I mention, it looks awsome too. I got mine used from a friend and all the stickers are still intact, with minimal damage to the paint job. Nukeproff has done an outstanding job on this stem.

Bottom Line:This stem does the job. Stays put, no flex. Etched logos would have been nice, but who really cares if the stickers peel off. I've tortured it for over a year now and it's still just fine.

It's bee a year now on my race face stem and I can say I havn't found any flaws in it. The three bolt pattern works really well. I put some titanium anti seize on the bolts and they have held up fine. Ride feel is great. Stem is great.Great buy not bad price. five chilles

Bottom Line:

I have had this stem for 2 months, and couldn't be happier. It is light, not too light but better than most for $30.00. It also has a removable face plate, bad thing is it has three bolts and you have to rotate tightening them, becaise it will turn out uneven if you don't. It has the looks tough. For the price it can't be beaten.

Bottom Line:

I've had this stem for almost two months now with no problems. It clamps firmly onto the steerer tube and holds my bar in place, what more can you ask for in a stem? It's light, has a removable face plate, has no sharp edges on the clamp, and comes in nice colors.

Date Reviewed: June 19, 1998
Bottom Line:

I have a three bolt stem that developed a crack at the handle bar clamp, WHATS WITH THAT! I didn't even crash on my bike. I noticed it when my bars became too flexy. Stem looks cool but its not worth the sacrifice over safety!!!!! I give low points for a product I feel isn't worth the price. Not Recommended

Submitted by Aggie John a weekend warrior from College Station, TX
Date Reviewed: June 17, 1998
Bottom Line:

The first thing that attracted me to this stem was the way it looked. Then I saw the price which was even better. You can't tell me that there is a stem out there that beats this one for the money. I might be mistaken, but I believe it is the only one out there that is black with yellow writing, which matches a number of bikes, including my Attitude Comp. It's not the lightest, but who cares? The only problem I have is that they use stickers instead of decals. That can be easily fixed with a coat of clear lacquer spray.Beat the hell outta' t.u.!!!!

Bottom Line:

Nuke Proof is a small company in Ada, Michigan. If you know anything about the people that live in Ada, you'd know that they are Dutch. The Dutch are two things: thrifty and detail oriented. This stem costs less and is very durable, in the Dutch tradition. The only drawbacks are the stickers, in that the NUKE PROOF is a tad queer, and the alumninum bolts are too soft, ie. they round out easily. One other note: When tightening the faceplate, make sure you tighten each bolt a bit, and move around until they're all tight. That way each bolt is in use, versus pulling one corner out further than the other...Anyway, it's a good stem, and it's cheap.

I love this stem it is the best stem I have ever tried. It is light strong and looks real
cool too. The removable face plate is great and the stickers look preety cool on the black paint job.
I also have a rear nuke proof hub that is great. I have tried numerous nuke proof products and haven't been failed yet

Bottom Line:

Nice stem for the money. as a broke college student, it was a perfect upgrade from my stock heavy
piece of junk. its fairly light, triple clamp design, cheap, and looks nice. obviously someone else thought
so - i came out of a class to find that some dumb ass had taken it. my azonic bars and manitou fork lay
there only attached by the brake cables. cheap enuff so i bought another one. only bad thing is the
cheasy name stickers that peel off with time.
