Favoriate Trail:fountainhead
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $45.00
Strengths:durability, design
Weaknesses:few if any, they run a little large
Bike Setup:gt idrive 5 4.0
Bottom Line:these shorts are great. i have two other styles of oakley shorts, and while they are all solid, these are by far my favorites. oakley has hit the nail on the head with their recent mtb shorts, and this one is their best pair in my opinion. nothing but solid marks for the ballistic 3.6 -- as someone else commented though, i wouldn't pay $120 (i'm a bit of a cheapskate) but if you can find them for under $80, they are well worth it.

Favoriate Trail:Ft. Ord Public Lands
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $42.00
Purchased At:SAC
Strengths:Large Pockets
Zipper Tabs
Weaknesses:Inseam length
Sizing
Buttons used for waist adjustment

Bike Setup:stock '02 Specialized Rockhopper
Bottom Line:I went for my first ride in these shorts yesterday and they are pretty solid. The Ballistics breathe really well and are functional. The huge pockets are great for grabbing stuff while riding because you can fit your whole hand in them and the zipper tabs are easy to handle as well. The inseam length is pretty long (just below the knees), but they don't catch on the bike seat or anything. The chamois is perfect and I like the detachable inner tights so you don't have to wash the outer shell after every ride. The sizing is a little big. I normally wear a 36, which is what I ordered, but I had to cinch the adjustable waist on the shorts as tight as they would go in order to keep them from falling down. Instead of velcro or snaps, they use buttons attached to elastic to adjust the waist, which was hard getting used to at first. I'm guessing this feature will be the first to go on the shorts (buttons falling off). Overall, I am sold on these shorts, but I would never spend $120 MSRP on them. Wait for them to come up on SAC like I did!

Bottom Line:these shorts rock! the construction, fabrics, and detailing are all first class. the waist band is adjustable, the liner well padded and removable, the two pockets are ample and they as well as the very effective vents are easily accessed. all buttons, fasteners and zippers look upmarket and the oakley logos are discreet. the styling is awesome their designers did a great job. the price may seem steep until you wear them.
