Description:Cannondale Fatty

Submitted by Unka Jesse a Cross Country Rider from Macon, GA
Date Reviewed: August 6, 2002
Favoriate Trail:Tsali, NC
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $100.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Infinite adjustements, capacity, lockout.
Weaknesses:Sh!tty little plastic lock-out knob.
Similar Products Used:Stock spring and elastomer system, both regular and "firm ride kit". I'm a Headshok dude, I can't tell you about anything else.
Bike Setup:Super-y (99) seriously upgraded. XT/XTR/Race Face yadda yadda
Bottom Line:I bought my bike with the regular spring and elastomer system. Salesmonkey should have told me that it wouldn't work for a Clydesdale like me. I'm 230lbs and it was rated for a 150lb rider -- I didn't know at the time of purchase (oh well). I bottomed it with ease. Tried the "firm ride kit" (for up to 180lb riders -- again, I found this out after the fact.) I bottomed it less often, but still could do it. The Fatty Air Cartridge solved all my problems, and gave me the ability to set it up to take relatively big hits, and be a little harsh on the small stuff. It's absolute Nirvana.

When I first got it, it leaked air out in about a month. LBS replaced some o-rings (probably damaged on installation) and I've not even touched it in three years.

Date Reviewed: August 12, 1999
Duration Product Used:
1 Year
Strengths:
Infinate adjustabilty
Weaknesses:
getting right pressure is time consuming
Bike Setup:
fatty D
Bottom Line:the fatty D cart. with the spring and MCU froze up in winter and was almost to stiff or to springy depending how you set it up . upgraded to the Fatty SL air cart and it's better than ever . it took a week or so to get the Air pressure set right but after that the damping and control is excellent . It is a bit expensive but if you ride in all year in SD and want SUSpension it works great
Overall Rating:4
