Duration Product Used:More than 3 years

Strengths:After 11 years the MMP-1 Mammoth MTN frame mountain pump still preforms flawlessly. Ate the start of each riding season I disassemble the unit and clean the seals and it's good to go for the entire season. Exccellent volume for a frame mounted pump, it will fill a 26X2.1 tube with little effort. Head easily switches between Presta and Schrader

The frame mounted clip with it's velcro strap has never failed to hold the pump in place through even the roughest riding conditions.
Weaknesses:The ergonomics of the pump handle are a little clunky (this is an 11 year old pump, the newer models have much better ergonomics)
    Bike Setup:XC
Bottom Line:This is an excellent frame mounted pump that I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Bottom Line:Mount the pump w/ the handle up, then it wont vibrate loose and end up in the crank arm! Too bad it took a buddy telling me this rather than being smart enough to figure that one out on my own.......must have to be smarter than the pump!

Once that was done, never had a problem. Very reliable!

Strengths:Unlike many mini pumps, this one can actually be used to pump up tires
Weaknesses:Not as much volume as a full size frame pump

Bottom Line:My second Mammoth after a nonfunctional Crank Bros. and a few years of CO2 cartridges. First one was great. Blackburn make some of the best pumps, and most importantly head designs that work. Latest version has a cool, red anodized pump shaft and nice alloy thumblock. My Crank BRos. mini pump would never be able to seal on a presta valve, leading to no end of grief. In three months of spring, I easily spent more on CO2 cartridges than the price of a Mammoth Mtn. pump. Now I'm back to this great unit, and headed to Mammoth Mountain next month to celebrate.

    Purchased At:Big Sky Cyclery, Helena
Strengths:aluminum shaft, great volume, has worked everytime.
Weaknesses:Have to switch nozzle around to switch between presta and schrader. Nozzle rubber "clings" to schrader valve threads making it very hard to remove. Had to rebuild once because of dirt/grime buildup from keeping the pump mounted to the frame.
Similar Products Used:typical frame pumps, CO2 pumps
    Bike Setup:Specialized FSR
Bottom Line:I bought this pump when I first got into mountain biking again around 5 years ago. the LBS guy showed me less expensive pumps, then showed me the Blackburn Mammoth Comp and said "this will be the last frame pump you'll have to buy". Assuming I never lose it, I think this is an accurate statement. I now keep it safely in my camelback to avoid dirt/grime buildup. It is still just a frame pump, so expect some exercise to pump up a tire to pressure. I use a CO2 pump for races, but this pump for every other flat on the trail. Great value, the only real complaint is having to switch the nozzle around for presta and schrader valves.

    Strengths:Works great the first time.
Weaknesses:Handle falls off, not waterproof, pump slides down on the rough stuff and into the chainring, o-rings fail etc.
Bottom Line:I purchased this pump after the great reviews in a bike mag. This thing is crap. I am embarrased to say that I am on my third one. As parts fell off or broke, I purchased a new one. I figured I would have spare pieces as it wore out. Nice thought, but doesn't help you when it fails you (and it will) deep into a ride. If people think this is a good pump, it is based on looks alone and not on any significant trail use. Look elsewhere.

    Strengths:Very Solid....Gets the job done.
Weaknesses:The handle rattles. It is made of plastic and there is nothing to hold it in place while you are riding. Since there is no clamp for the handle it will slide out unless you have it pointed up. Also it doesn't come with a mount that lines the pump up with your frame, only a side mount next to your water bottle. For those of us that use a water pack, and inline mount for your frame is more practical.
    Similar Products Used:Blackburn Shorty SMP-1
Bottom Line:I highly recommend the Blackburn Shorty SMP-1 over the Mammoth. It is a lot shorter and has a rubber handle to keep the shaft from sliding out while you are riding. Also the clip that holds it to the frame holds the handle as well. No rattling....

Strengths:Color matches my bike and it pumps air
Weaknesses:magic gripper kind of sucks...grabs way too tight
    Bike Setup:GT Avalanche 1.0
Bottom Line:Since I put slime liner on the inside of my tires I have only gotten one flat in about 4 months, which was a pinch flat. I was about 12 miles from home and wasn't carrying an extra tube so I pulled off the side of the trail to patch up my tire. I got it all fixed and had just finished pumping it up. When I released the grip, the pump ripped the valve from my stem, shooting it about 20 feet in the air and into the woods never to seen again. There's nothing worse than walking your bike 12 miles through the woods at night. I'll give it a 3 for value because it was a decent price and it has worked for me on several occassions, but I'm giving it a 1 for overall because it ripped out my stem and sent me on a 12 mile hike home.

    Strengths:Good solid pump.
Metal pump body will last forever.
    Lifetime warranty.
Quickly pumps high volume of air.
    Ergonomic T-handle
    Great customer service.
Weaknesses:Handle rattles badly when mounted on bike so you have to carry it in your hydro-pack or go insane. Luckily it's small so it fits quite nicely in the pack.
The thumb lock can be difficult to use while holding the pump on the valve stem.
Bottom Line:This is a great pump that inflates high volume MTB tires quickly and easily.

Mine is the older style without the Magic Gripper head. I prefer this model as I hardly ever need to pump up Schrader tubes and if I do, I don't mind switching the adapter around. I feel that the simpler design is more reliable.

Strengths:Clamps on well, puts out a large volume of air, handle feels nice and gives good leverage, fills up my tires with air so I don't have to walk home.
Weaknesses:Long, will only fit onto a frame, or a long camel back pocket. Hydrapacks are out of the question.
Similar Products Used:Some other little pump, CO2 cartridges
    Bike Setup:Specialized M2 stumpjumper
Bottom Line:For the amount I paid for the pump, I could not have asked for better performance. There are no problems with losing air putting it on, or taking it off of a presta valve. I have had 6-7 flats in the past 2 weeks, and this pump gets me going fast. To get a faster fill I'd have to use a floor pump or a CO2. For all of you out there using picepoint, stay away from the blackburn tube deal. It sounds great, but those tubes are terrible in rocky So-Cal conditions. I have gotten 5 through and through pinch flats in my last two rides, and I have tried everything short of walking to prevent them.

At any rate, buy this pump. Its cheap, but it works better than anything else I have tried.

Its a great pump, but its a bit large. I am still thinkin about putting it back on my Raleigh even though its quite large. I love how it fits presta valves and shraeder valves. I hate presta valves and I wish they didnt exist, but at least this pump can put air in them.

Strengths:(This is a follow up review for the one I posted below.
I just bought the new model of the Mammoth MTN Pump....)

It was cheap from Price Point (4 for $25)
It pumps up the tire pretty well.
    Looks very strong.
Magic Gripper universal valve can pump Schrader or Presta.
Weaknesses:Magic Gripper valve makes the pump very heavy.
Similar Products Used:older Mammoth MTN Pump
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Paragon, stock setup.
Bottom Line:After writing the last review, I ordered my new pumps from Price Point. Wow, what a deal, so I bought some for my friends.

In the new pump Blackburn changed the design to the universal valve head. It accepts Presta and Schrader valves without any conversion. For me this wasn't really a desired feature because I don't have to pump up Schrader valves that much, and when I do, I don't mind switching the adapter around. The new pump also seems to be stronger than the old pump. The drawback is that this new design weighs substantialy more than the old design.

Never the less, it's still a decent pump, and the price was right. In my new review I'll have to mark it down a chili for the increased weight.

Strengths:Stong, light, and pumps a relatively high volume of air for a small bike mounted pump. This pump has been through hell and keeps working. Mud doesn't affect it much, nor does rain. Also, nice choice in colors.
Weaknesses:flimsy handle, but it works fine and for the weight you can't complain.
Similar Products Used:other Blackburns, and other lesser cheapy bike mounted pumps.
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Paragon, Trek 930
Bottom Line:Get this pump for mountain biking. It pumps up a mountain bike tire to an acceptable pressure in no time at all (20 stokes?). It gets a little bit difficult to pump up road tires at higher pressures. I've only taken it apart twice since I've had it for cleaning; it's never needed new seals or a "rebuild". Now, it's just about worn out after 4 years and instead of rebuilding it, I plan to get new one.

Looks + works like a million bucks
    Pumps up tires FAST
Very fast + easy to switch from Presta to Schraeder... and back
Very strong thumb lock- it ain't slippin' off
Weaknesses:Handle lock is really badly designed, almost as an afterthought... you have to mount it handle-up, else the handle loosens after the first bump and slides out.
Similar Products Used:Metal floor pump (can't remember brand), el-cheapo plastic frame pump
    Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Aquila
Bottom Line:I guess I should have bought this online- I'm seeing it for half the price I paid ($30) in a bike shop. It was worth the price, though. People have been complaining about the frame clip- it does look cheap compared to the pump, but it works fine for me and I'd still prefer its Velcro to a "better-feeling" mechanical lockdown. The pump is really efficient; more like a floor pump. I'm giving it 4 for Overall because of the nigh-useless handle lock.

Weaknesses:Frame strap is really cheap looking and feeling, just put the pump on your camelbak. Then, either due to heatstroke or because I am just stupid, I replaced the pump with the same model when I got back to town (after walking several miles and finally finding someone with a working pump). Mount the pump handle up, and you won't have any problems.
I WAS going to get a nice floor pump for at home, but this pumps SO fast and easy that I can't justify the cost of a floor pump.
I can't imagine an easier to use pump (switching from presta to schraeder takes all of 10 seconds tops).
5 flamming inner tubes from being pumped up so fast for this one.
