      Date Reviewed: 1/16/2008 11:57:47 PM
Duration Product Used: Less than 1 month
Strengths: Grippy, light, cheap, looks good.
      Weaknesses: Setup required
Similar Products Tried: Clips (currently, swap between pedals depending on cource & mood), 647's
      Bike Setup: Reign
Bottom Line: Haven't used them much.
When you get them they need setting up.
Steps have been outlined in others reviews, basically...
      tighten screw grubs,
      press in pins,
pack it with MORE grease than what comes with it,
      and...
      Refer to http://www.dmrbikes.com/res/CMSFiles/V8%20Maintenance.pdf

Take off the end cap as in pdf above, tighten/loosen nut under cap until you feel first tiny bit of grinding/resistance when spinning then loosen the bolt roughly an eighth of a turn (use common sense, this was the amount I found practical) this will ensure bearings last a lot, lot longer.
Both my pedals were grinding out the box.

Otherwise once setup a great pedal, but make sure you put the 15mins of time into it.

      Strengths: Looks
      Weaknesses: Weak materials. Poor quality
Similar Products Tried: Shimano DX flatties. (Very Nice) Truvativ Hussafelt (did I spell that right?) Also very nice, if you get the ones that have replacable pins.
      Bike Setup: Haro Escape 8.3
Bottom Line: This is just a follow up to an earlier review. I bent my pedal axel with relative ease. I'm not even sure when or where, but it has a slight tweek in it. I'm no dirt jumping maniac so I must say that I am disappointed. I will lower my rating accordingly. Too bad.
I suppose someone who never left the groud at all and weighed no more than 25 pounds could make them last for a long time. Might be good on a kids bike 'cause they do look cool.

      Purchased At: www.chainreaction.co.uk
Strengths: Look mean, easy to get spares, come with the little bolts and key. Loads of colour options. Fairly light for the price. I got free DMR stickers in my box too!
Weaknesses: Not sure there's enough grease in the box, but it feels good when you inject the grease in the grease port.
      Similar Products Tried: I-Drive
Bike Setup: Kona Cinder Cone, XT Hubs, Hollowtech crank, XT discs, Mainly LX drive train, Race Face HandleBar and Stem, DT Swiss rims.
Bottom Line: These are so grippy, that no mud, stone, or wetness has made them slippy for myself. Probably worth wearing suitable footwear, like flat hard soles.

If you have stock plastic pedals, I would bin them and get these. If, like myself, you're on a budget, don't like SPDs, then these could be for you.

My shins are fine, but I did wear pads for a while to be sure. I got more damage from the pads rubbing than the pedals.

Strengths: grippy. awesome after some adjustment.. Hit after hit they feel exactly the same. did I mention they're grippy?
Weaknesses: paint sucks. Doesn't come with enough grease to use on one pedal. Small PITA to adjust, because if they were left as is the bearings wouldn't last a week. The grip pin thingies easily got deformed.
Similar Products Tried: generic $5 platforms
Bike Setup: 2007 stumpjumper fsr comp, raceface rings and bashguard
Bottom Line: I don't like clipless so I got myself a nice set of platforms. Biggest issue was just adjusting the bearings so they're not too tight. Out of the box the resistance on them was high and you could feel grinding. As soon as I fixed that, they were superb.

And forget your shins. Bloody things tore up the back of my leg and the back of my knee. Hurts a lot more than your shins!

Despite the fairly large list of minor weaknesses I would buy these again without question. They are not much more than the crummy basic ones you find at any store.

Bottom Line: I love these pedals, they are super grippy, they run smooth and look the nuts.
The only problem is that they require greasing before use, and the syringe that is provided doesnt have enough grease for one pedal, let alone the pair.
Had no trouble with them yet.

Make sure you fill them with grease before you first use them!!!

      Bike Setup: '06 Kona Kikapu
Bottom Line: Ive read other reviews complaining about the damage these pedals do to your shins, but the fact is the only reason this happens is because of the grub screws which make them so grippy! 9 times outta 10 your feet wont budge, and if they do its usually because of rider error. For someone like me who doesnt like clipless these are the only pedal worth getting and at £21 you cant complain too much! Comes with grease for servicing and an allen key for adjusting the grub screws. Spares are easy to get as most places stock these pedals.

      Duration Product Used: 3 months
      Price Paid: $30
      Purchased At: dutch cycle, regina
Strengths: Good looks, very easy to work on/maintain, inexpensive.
Weaknesses: not set up well to begin with, pins came loose. don't like the chintzy plastic end cap that looks as if it will fall out at any moment,(but hasn't yet, so I'll cool my jets).
Similar Products Tried: truvative "super-slippy" model, axiom double jump.
Bike Setup: Haro Escape 8.3 with a bunch of truvativ stuff and avid brakes
Bottom Line: The bottom line? Hmmm...well, okay. If you want these pedals to last, then be prepared to set them up. Mine needed to have the bearings adjusted, which was simple to do and they also needed to have the pins secured a little better, which was also easy. With loose ball bearings and a simple cup and cone set-up, a semi-competent mech can easily set the bearings "just right". That's good because odds are they will need a slight tweak. When set up right, bearings will last a long time. Let them run too tight and it's over really quickly. The little grease gun that comes with is just a novelty item. It doesn't really work. Instead, just pop off the end cap and shove some good grease in with your thumb until it squirts out the other side. Greased pedals made easy.Next, take the pedals, a small hammer, and a block of wood and tap in the silver pins. They're just pressed in and they can wiggle loose. I found mine were not all pressed in as well as they should have been. Set the pedal on the block of wood, take the hammer and tap in the pins. I did this and haven't lost any yet. Keep an eye-ball on them.
Overall, I like the looks, the easy service-ability and the low price. They look like they should cost more than they do and that's cool. They aren't the finest pedal in the world, but they seem to be a good value. No reflector holes also makes them look pro-moto and not department store-ish.
      So far, I like them.
Who should buy them? Someone who doesn't mind, or even enjoys, working on his /her own stuff to make them "perfect".
