      Duration Product Used: 1 Year
      Price Paid: $29
      Purchased At: cambriabike.com
Strengths: Straightforward, sturdy, excellent traction, cup and cone bearings, pin design.
      Weaknesses: Inboard "seals," "weight."
Similar Products Tried: Lots of platform and caged pedals. Most notable: Wellgo magnesiums (380 grams, but small and fragile), and Odyssey Svelte (original cage is useless, outboard cartridge bearing inadequate).
Bottom Line: ALL PLATFORMS ARE HEAVY, ALL PLATFORMS ARE HEAVY, ALL PLATFORMS ARE HEAVY!!!

Having clarified this, it is important to realize that if you are going to run non-clipless pedals you can either get some caged, street commuter pedals or get some platforms with traction pins. A lot of the features are not worth paying for, such as cartridge bearings (IMO they only add ease of maintenance, assumming they are big enough to be durable), magnesium bodies (not trail-worthy, but if you have gramitis might be worth the 100 grams weight reduction), and all the other design hoopla.

These Bombshells have it. They are big enough. They have strong, durable, serviceable cup and cone bearings (ever wonder why Shimano has never deviated from a cup and cone design for their hubs?). The are plenty of pins and the design is proper; allen headed set-screws are not strong and if you booger up the head you'll need pliers to replace them, rather, IMO the Bombshell pins that screw in from the backside are sturdier, the screw heads will never be boogered up, and because they are larger in diameter the corresponding hole in the body of the pedal is stronger, too (i.e., the interface is bigger and stronger).

However, the "seal" for the inboard bearing could be better secured (it may wobble out).

For the price, can't beat them.
