Submitted by Mike D a Weekend Warrior from Cincinnati, Ohio
      Date Reviewed: 4/19/2008 7:52:49 PM
Duration Product Used: Less than 1 month
      Price Paid: $6
      Purchased At: Ebay
Strengths: Lasts for a long time. Repels water like crazy. Don't need to apply before every ride. Cleans and lubes at the same time. Can be used as a wet or dry lube according to the riding conditions.
      Weaknesses: None
Similar Products Tried: Pedro's Ice Wax
      Bike Setup: 2004 Specialized Rockhopper
Bottom Line: Using this lube will bring your chain back to life. Gears will shift smoothly and accurately. I find myself looking down to make sure it did shift because I won't feel or hear anything as with other lubes. I also use it to lube my cables, it works great.

I am done searching for the right lube. I am no longer going to waste my time or money on bad products that only last for 10 minutes. Now I enjoy the ride instead of worrying if my chain is lubed for the ride or not. I only need to apply it about 3 rides or so.

People say that it smells, but I really don't know what they're talking about. It might have a little smell at first application, but after it soaks into the chain it's all good.

And for the price you really can't find a better product. Even the more expensive lubes don't even come close. So don't waste your money on other imitators and get the real thing.

      Weaknesses: Notta.
Similar Products Tried: Pedros, Rock "N" Roll, Schwinn.

Bottom Line: I like to keep my rig pretty clean and with this product the drive chain is a snap! I apply a small drop on every link so a bottle lasts a long time. Try it for yourself, you will not be disappointed!!

Strengths: Keeps the chain very clean! I'm not the best when it comes to keeping my chain clean so thats why I like this lube. It does all the work for me by repelling the dirt and grime. If you're lazy like me, then this lube is for you.
      Weaknesses: None I've seen.

Strengths: Easy to apply, excess wipes off easily and cleans when you do it, penetrates well, allows accumulated material to wash off easily with just a spray bottle between laps and is still lubed, i add more anyway.
Weaknesses: I have found no complaints for this product, since i've started using it i've not even looked at the other lubes in stores, just pick up more ProGold when i started running low
Similar Products Tried: Finish line, White Lighting, Pedros, others i can't remember
Bike Setup: Specialized Stumpjumper Pro, Giant Anthem 1/07
Bottom Line: This is great convenient lube, it works. It lubes it cleans, penetrates, dissipates that little rust if you waited to long after cleaning with water. I'm not a clean freak so when my chain needs cleaning and i'm too lazy to take it off and do it right i soak the hell out of it with ProGold, wipe away the excess and good to go.

      Duration Product Used: 1 Year

Strengths: Cleans chain, and keeps chain clean.
      Weaknesses: none at all.
Similar Products Tried: Finish line, Pedros, Tri-flow, Phil tenacious, 10w30, 5w30, saliva, e-load (by accident), filth
Bike Setup: i) 2x8 XC race bike ii) 2x8 All mountain bike
Bottom Line: I was given a bottle of this stuff a couple years ago, and didn't use it for a while because I was pretty happy with the finish line products, but since trying it I'll definately stick with it. After a couple rides the chain was cleaner than ever and has stayed that way. Of course turpentine might do that too, but the Pro-gold gives good shift. Crisp clean shifts, and the grime doesn't pack up on either the chain or the cassette in even the crappiest conditions.
      Top drawer product.

      Weaknesses: you kidding me?! NONE!
Similar Products Tried: white lightning, pedros, finish line, phil woods
Bike Setup: Niner MCR 1x9, Surly 1x1, Titus Motolite, Desalvo road bike
Bottom Line: I've tried other lubes, but nothing works like this. I do a lot of endurance events (24 hr solos, 8hr solos and enduros) and I don't need to re-lube as often as guys using other lubes. My riding buddies give me a hard time because my bike is always clean - part of the reason is I use this lube! Keeping the drive train clean is easy, Progold cleans as you use it, so keeping a clean drive train is simple. Keep parts clean and running smooth means less wear and tear on them = a happy bike!
      Cheers!

Strengths: Works like gasoline for removing rust oxidation. After two years, I have not see any noticeable wear and tear on the chain.
Weaknesses: Still attract dust where I ride now. Not as bad in some areas.
Similar Products Tried: Too long to list; Still using some Finish Lines lube for different purposes.
Bike Setup: Specialize Stumpjumper FSR Carbon Pro, Fisher Piranha, Trek something... :)
Bottom Line: I'm doing this just to be the exactly 100's reviewers. Used it for two years and 90% happy with it. The bees wax works great too but it doesn't deal with rust oxidation with the non stainless steel chain on my lower end bikes. It does attract dust where I ride since we have not have rain in months. Lube cleaned out nicely with a little Simple Green.

Similar Products Tried: All the usual suspects.... Pedro's, Finish Line Krytec, Dura Lube, Superlube, Tri-Flow.... even (gasp) WD-40

Bottom Line: I won't bother re-hashing all the positive remarks from previous posters... they all apply. It's a great product.

What I wanted to say is that this product is absolutely fantastic as a fork strut and shock lube. I thought my forks were performing fine until I wiped a little ProGold ProLink on them, then it was like "WOW.... so this is how they're supposed to work". All of a sudden I was getting sensitive small bump compliance and a beautifully smooth ramp-up the further I got into its travel. In my opinion, don't bother with fork lubes. This stuff is fantastic in terms of performance and what you get for your hard earned dollar... money well spent, with a definite performance return.

      Strengths: Chain stays gunk free
Weaknesses: Very thin so you have to be careful applying or can work out expensive. It only needs to be applied for 1 complete revolution of the chain
Similar Products Tried: White lightning wax and wet lube - Finish line wet & dry - GT85 - Rock n roll Extreme - Finesse multi-lube
Bike Setup: Turner 5 Spot, Talas, SRAM X9, RF Atlas, Thomson, Easton, Avid Juicy 7's

Turner Flux, Reba, SRAM XO, RF Deus, Thomson, Easton, Avid Juicy carbons

On-One 853 Inbred, carbon rigids, XO gripshift, X9, Shimano LX crank, Hope mono mini's, On-One finishing kit
Bottom Line: I started using this lube as a summer/dry lube only, but have also now started using it all year round. After really wet muddy rides there is no gunk on the chain and the mud just washes off with water.

The chain needs to be really clean chain before applying it. I just using Muc-Off and then rinse it throughly with water. Once you've done this you don't have to do it again.

One of the comments below said it was poor in summer as dirt/dust stuck to it, this is true if you appply it before a ride but as the instructions say you should lube the night before and let it dry. Then dust doesn't collect on the chain.

Normally I apply the bottle to the cassette for 3turns of the cranks, then backpedal quickly 10-20 times to get it to work it's way in to the chain, then hold a rag at the bottom and spin slowly to take up any excess, then leave to dry.

I also use the pen type luber sometimes to apply it link by link, this also works well.

I apply it after every ride if a really wet/muddy ride or after washing, and around every 3-4 rides if mostly dry.

I also use their EPX grease, perfect for greasing SRAM jockey wheels, no more seizing now :)

Strengths: Thin & watery so application and penetration is excellent. Keeps my chains free of caking grime. Long lasting.
Weaknesses: Thin & Watery, so put down a piece of cardboard before application and apply slowly otherwise you'll leave a lot of it on the floor/cardboard.
Similar Products Tried: Pedro's Synlube, Pedro's Ice Wax, Wife's Lipstick, EVOO, Sewing Machine Oil, K-Y, Jello...
      Bike Setup: 2 x Jamis
Bottom Line: All chains will get dirty - there is no way around that!!!

Follow directions for the application. Always best on freshly cleaned chains.

I keep an eye on the chain and when it starts to show some soft build-up, I soak the chain with ProLink and then immediately wipe it down with lint free cloth. Maybe do that twice if it is real dirty.

I never have a grimey, hard-to-clean chain and I am no where close to a "clean chain" fanatic.

My chains never "grind" like they did with other lubes that seems to attract more dirt/sand than they can cope with.

ProGold's ProLink makes my chains, cassettes and chainrings last longer.

It's sandy and dusty in FL and I am finished with trying other lubes, only to be sadly disappointed to find myself spending way too much time cleaning and lubing the old chains....instead of riding them!

Weaknesses: May be neurotoxic or muscle toxic. However, the benefits outway the risks. After I apply this stuff with my bare hands, I notice that my fingers feel slightly rigid. To avoid this, always wear blue nitrile, or thick rubber gloves when applying this stuff.
