$250.00 | | Purchased At: | Tom's Bicycles, Tulsa | | Strengths: | Very sturdy, quick release seatpost, nice pink color for the girls, cute! | | Weaknesses: | Pretty heavy, though all kids bikes are. Probably doesn't need the front suspension, would chose something lighter if up to me....however, it is the kid's favorite part. | | Bottom Line: | This bike had exactly the features I was looking for, like the 1X6 drivetrain, not too complicated for kids. The other bike that I was considering was by Raleigh "Rowdy" looks pretty good too. If you are considering the Kona, keep in mind that they can be hard to come by..mine took about 6 weeks to get in. Not sure if the blue takes as long. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$200.00 | | Purchased At: | Penny Sport Cycles CHC | | Strengths: | Good size and weight for a 6 to 9 year old. | | Weaknesses: | Gearing slightly too tall. | | Similar Products Used: | Nil | | Bike Setup: | Factory | | Bottom Line: | Our 7 year old loves this bike, its his first MTB after previously riding small BMX bikes. He finds the lowest gears are a little tall, we have undulating terrain and some of the steeper inclines require lower gears than fitted in factory spec. Its a great size and weight for a lean 7 year boy of average height, he should get 2 years riding before needing a larger bike, the lowest seat height would of allowed him to ride this bike a year ago (age 6). We most likely be buying another one in 18 months time for his little brother. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I looked at all of them & its the lightest I found. The old school stem is better that a threadless b/c you can raise and lower the bar height w/o buying a new stem or bar. Shifts well and its been trouble free. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$250.00 | | Purchased At: | Kauppaveljet - Helsinki | | Strengths: | First real mtb for my 6 year old son. | | Weaknesses: | The fork could be a bit lighter and more responsive for a small and light rider, but considering the price, it is good enough. | | Similar Products Used: | Did not find any... | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | All the other bikes for kids we tested were really heavy. The Kona Makena is a real entry level mountain bike. It has the all the bells and whistles needed to start the mtb hobby. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
