Description: Hershey Hubs

Submitted by David Gibson a Weekend Warrior from Madison, WI
Date Reviewed: July 3, 2004
Favoriate Trail:all
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $75.00
Purchased At:ebay
Strengths:I have the Naked front hub. Smoothest hub ever! Extremely light and strong. My whole wheel (with rimstrip, no tire or tube) weighs 576 grams.
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:XTR, Xt, STX, Rolf Dolomite
Bike Setup:Cannondale SM900, pepperoni fork, Xtr rear with Bontrager Valiant rim, ringle seatpost, machine tech stem, hyperlite handlebars, Maxxis minotaur tires.
Bottom Line:If you can find them on ebay, buy them. I owned two of them but sold the turquoise one on ebay after deciding that it was just going to sit on my bookshelf as a paperweight. I kept the black one and it is definitely my best hub. Too bad the company went belly up, I really like a lot of those 90's quirky products.

Favoriate Trail:city walls !
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:I use the naked front hub with a rigid fork for trials (front wheel hop with the wheel sideways, etc...), NEVER ANY PROBLEM !
Weaknesses:nope.
Similar Products Used:shimano xt & xtr, I broke several hollow axles before this hershey hub.
Bike Setup:15" zaskar with rigid fork, for trials.
Bottom Line:This naked front hub is the coolest hub I ever found, one of the lightest, and strong enough for trials !

Lake Morena
Duration Product Used:
6 months
Strengths:
Light, smooth, strong
Weaknesses:
rear hub bearings wear quickly
Similar Products Used:
Ringle
Bike Setup:
I have a 98 GT Zaskar with XT/XTR group with Judy XC shocks.
Bottom Line:Although bike shops did not recommend radial lacing, I still did it and I have not had a single problem in 3 years. Too bad I can't find them anymore.

Bottom Line:

I have used the Hershey Metal Matrix Monster Hubs on my cross-country racing bike and also my tandem which my girlfriend and I race. The hub on the tandem really takes a beating because of all the force put on it (no suspension). This hub has taken the abuse with flying colors! I have rarely had to true the wheel after a hard race or ride.. I recommend these to anyone....

Bottom Line:

I only have the front naked hub, but it is a sweet piece. The first one I had broke (can't handle radial lacing), but Hershey replaced it within a week. saved me a whole bunch of weight up front and has been really reliable.

Bottom Line:

These hubs work pretty well. I love the front hub. This thing is beefy. It
has a 19mm axle, and huge cups that cover the bearings and clamp in between
the fork legs. It rolls silky smooth. The rear rolls good, has a smaller
axle and looks kinda wimpy, but I haven't had any problems (no bent axles or
anything). The bearings are exhibiting a less than silky smooth roll right now.
I have abused them through a rainy season (7 months), and it's not rolling as
nicely as when I got it. It still rolls endlessly, you can just feel it when
you hold the axle in your hands and give it a spin. Overall, I like these hubs.
The front is called Ti Monster and the rear is just a Ti rear hub (no special
name). The rear hub is the one that isn't rolling as well as the front. I think
the bearings are too small. I give 4 stars for the front, 3 for the rear.

Bottom Line:

I am a Swiss bicycle racer and race for team Bianchi. I build custom wheels for myself and other bike teams. I do snowflakes crow's foots and other rare spoke patterns as well as traditionnel ones. My current paire of racewheels are Hershey Ti. They are light weight and durable and I am overly satisfied except for the bearings which are cheap japenese bearings that I would suggest to replace with a good set of german bearings. If it wasn't for the bearings they would get five stars.
