$50.00 | | Purchased At: | Peformance Bike | | Strengths: | Great styling, massive vents, adequate airflow, low back, comfortable | | Weaknesses: | Broke on my first crash, but definitely did it's job, I would have been knocked out if not worse | | Similar Products Used: | Bell Venture | | Bike Setup: | 06 Specialized Stumpjumper Hardtail | | Bottom Line: | This helmet saved me some definite head trauma, although I had a little bit of a headache the day after I wrecked and cracked the foam. This item has performed very well for me and kept me quite cool out on the trail and on the street. Performance and Nashbar have great deals on last year's model, which appears to be identical, so save $40 and go that route. It could be a bit costly at around $85. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$50.00 | | Purchased At: | Performance Bikes | | Strengths: | Looks good, colors, real mountain biking helmet, plenty of air vents, comfortable. Very well made. | | Weaknesses: | None | | Similar Products Used: | Fox Flux, Giro Indicator | | Bike Setup: | 96 Specialized Stumpjumper, Cannondale F6, Giant Boulder, Parkpre Comp. | | Bottom Line: | Never crashed with it on because I've had it for such a short time. It's a great looking and I'm sure good functioning helmet. It was very comfortable and looked very well made. But It didn't look good on me so I bought the Fox Flux instead. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from England Date Reviewed: April 22, 2008 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Purchased At: | Online | | Strengths: | Airflow is great... and what about the looks (olive/orange). Allowed me to survive a crash - a helmet costs less than a replacement skull.
Decent value (i paid £45 - UK, but I cant write that in the price box) | | Weaknesses: | First crash, I totalled it... OK it was a hard crash at high speed - but theres barely a scratch and no dent on the shell, but huge crack (all the way through) the foam - really makes me wonder just how strong it really is | | Similar Products Used: | Many manymany | | Bike Setup: | Rocky ETSX | | Bottom Line: | Ok, so I bought online - but I know what will fit me and what wont, and this did just fine - the shape inside is slightly wierd at first, when you get used to it its more than comfortable enough.
Thankfully I see helmets as disposable - its alot to spend for one good crash, then again, maybe others will have more luck than I did in that regard (and in fairness, the same crash wrote me off riding for quite a long time).
Value wise - it looks good, its a good price for the fantastic level of airflow and the protection at the back - if only for that sake, its worth the money because few other helmets go that low on the neck for less money. Overall though, I do feel slightly upset that it only stood up for one crash - but at the same time, it did its job.
Might buy again, if only to see if it fared better in future, but not sure. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$70.00 | | Purchased At: | Jenson | | Strengths: | Light, Comfy, Easy-to-fit, possible good luck charm | | Weaknesses: | None so far | | Similar Products Used: | Big bowl-like Vetta helmets. | | Bike Setup: | Irrelevant | | Bottom Line: | I've only had the helmet for a short while, and I've never crashed while wearing it, so I can only really speak to the comfort. Partly, I think, because of the constantly high humidity around here, it's normal to get heated up really quickly when riding. This helmet is easy-to-fit (I have a big head, and the large was a breeze to fit), and air flow is really good. I have been really impressed with whatever feature of the design is responsible for sweat diversion -- I wear glasses, so sweat can be really annoying both as far as spectacular slipping and lens-obscuring. It's not been a problem at all with this helmet.
An earlier reviewer criticized the helmet for showing damage afer a couple hard crashes. I tend to think of bike (and motorcycle, and car racing) helmets as disposable: if you crash hard and mess up the helmet, it's done it's job as long as your noggin is okay. Throw it away and get a new one. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$70.00 | | Purchased At: | beyondbikes.com | | Strengths: | Great styling and ventalation, light weight, snugg fit, the inner pads are exellent for directing sweat from your eyes. | | Weaknesses: | Does not last very long, especially after a bust or two, mine cracked a month after purchased. Now six months down the road you can't really call it a safety device. (cracks all through that sh#*!) | | Similar Products Used: | other Giros, Pro-tecs | | Bike Setup: | 08 Haro Escape with Sram x9 line, C.K. head set with crank bros plats. All else stock | | Bottom Line: | Nice helmet for the rider who wants more freestyle coverage, but not built to last. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$65.00 | | Purchased At: | REI | | Strengths: | extra coverage, great ventilation, extremely comfortable | | Weaknesses: | unusual sizing, strapping system | | Similar Products Used: | Other Giro helmets | | Bike Setup: | N/A | | Bottom Line: | One of the very few helmets with extra rear coverage but cross country styling and ventilation. The sizing is strange though; I take a women's specific universal size or a men's small in almost every other helmet, but this one barely fits in a men's medium. The strapping system is a bit hard to adjust as well. However once you get the right size and get it set up it's wonderful! The best ventilation of any helmet I've tried and very comfortable. The extra coverage in the back was something I really wanted, and this helmet (when you get the sizing right) really follows through on it's claims in that area. I'd definitely buy it again, but I'm glad I went to the store and tried it on as it wouldn't have fit had I bought it online. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$80.00 | | Purchased At: | Spokesman Bicycles | | Strengths: | Copious air vents, protects the back of your head better than most helmets, comfortable, lightweight, cool and wicks sweat away from my eyes pretty well. Look damn cool | | Weaknesses: | Straps are a bit annoying to get adjusted just right. Not sure if it needs to cost $80 | | Similar Products Used: | some trek helmet | | Bike Setup: | Giant Reign 2 | | Bottom Line: | I love this helmet, it looks like a real mountain bike helmet instead of a road helmet with a visor. Comes in a good selection of subtle yet nice colors. I haven't crashed in it yet but it feels beefy enough to withstand a pretty good blow. Its definitely bulkier than my trek helmet I cracked on a nasty fall awhile ago. The real bottom line is that this helmet looks really awesome. I really dig the angular design and wide aggressive looking vents, which work just as good as they look. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$50.00 | | Purchased At: | Performance Bikes | | Strengths: | Plenty of adjustments to get a good fit. Design provides good crash protection coverage. Plenty of vents to provide cooling. | | Weaknesses: | None | | Similar Products Used: | Schwinn and Bell Department store helmets | | Bike Setup: | Giant Anthem | | Bottom Line: | We have two of these helmets in a small and medium size. Both riders use sun glasses when riding and have found that the helmet does a good job of directing sweat away from the front of the face. I would definitely buy these helmets again. Although the helmets we have are different model years, they appear identical. Looking for previous years models will get you the best deal. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from SLO, CA, USA Date Reviewed: June 8, 2007 | | Favoriate Trail: | Back Yard | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Strengths: | uh, looks cool? | | Weaknesses: | sweaty, weird fit. | | Similar Products Used: | tons... | | Bike Setup: | Nomad | | Bottom Line: | I can't report on the crash worthness of this helmet, only the fit. I have owned countless Giro and Bell helmets over the years and have never had a complaint. Until this one. It is very hard to get adjusted correctly. I don't know what the issue is as I have had other late model Giro helmets with the same fitting system but this one just doesn't fit my head. For some reason I just can't get the front to stay down on my head no matter what I do. That and the fact that all your sweat pools in the front and drips right in your eyes really is lame! Most of my previous helmets drip in front but a bit to the side whereas this one drips straight down into your glasses and eyes. I am not sure if I am just more aware of the sweat of if I really am sweating more but it really seems like I sweat more in this helmet than my others (except my full face of course). I have only had it for 6 months but I am getting a new helmet as I can't stand all the sweat issues and the fit. Everyone's heads are different though so this is all pretty subjective. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$50.00 | | Purchased At: | Bicycle Works | | Strengths: | This helmet definitely saved me from some serious injuries. I had only worn the helmet for a couple rides before I went flying over the handle bars and went head first into a tree. I was travelling at a good pace and I was very surprised that I felt fine from the crash. Checking out the helmet it had bent the plastic shell and broke the foam, so I know I hit hard since I have never done that to a helmet. The fit was great and I am definitely considering replacing it with another one. Unfortunately I won't be able to pick it up for the same price since I bought it at a show and was last years stock. | | Weaknesses: | None. | | Similar Products Used: | Previous helmet was an old Bell helmet. | | Bike Setup: | 06 Stumpjumper Disc | | Bottom Line: | Considering I had no after effects from a crash that broke the helmet, this helmet rocks in my opinion. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Also very nice design and a real MTB Helmet! | | Weaknesses: | No caveats | | Bottom Line: | I've had this 6 months now and I agree with all the comments, very well made and the design is real MTB and no compromise. Great price for this quality. Great protection and so comfortable. I put one of my old helmets on the other day.....an expensive one around the £100 mark, and Wow could I feel the difference. I had forgotten just how comfortable this Hex is and I feel better with the extra protection around the back. After a gnarly long flight over my bars on a really steep rooty pitch I dove (dived?) head first onto a root, breaking the helmet and leaving me with a seriously sore neck and covered in cuts and bruises. I even saw a big flash of white light as my helmeted head impacted. Not fun.
But if you had any doubts whether these things work, rest assured they do. If I'd been riding without a helmet, or with a worn cracked one, I wouldn't be around to type this. Thanks Giro. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$65.00 | | Purchased At: | www.beyondbikes.com | | Strengths: | Looks cool, amazing ventilation, super comfy; almost as compact as the Zen for a much lower price. | | Weaknesses: | Tricky to set up, buy hey, you only do it once. | | Similar Products Used: | Giro Atlas | | Bike Setup: | Kona Coiler Deluxe, Mallets. | | Bottom Line: | A great helmet. Watch out for sizing though; I bought mine based on my head size and when it arrived I was sure it was too small. When I took the pads out and tried it on I realised the shell was just right, it was just that the pads were new and phat. A few days of squashing them down to size in a vice and voila.. so comfy I forget I've got it on. This probably goes for any helmet you're considering to be honest... buy one that feels too small and it'll wear in. I made the same mistake with my last helmet and it was too big. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$80.00 | | Purchased At: | Local Retailer | | Strengths: | Reputable brand, looks good, great air flow, lightweight and comfortable. | | Weaknesses: | The straps are challenging to get dialed in and adjusted the first time. Starting to enter the pricey range (after all, its compressed foam and plastic). | | Similar Products Used: | Giro Torero | | Bottom Line: | This is the second mountain bike helmet I have owned. This higher priced helmet did come with a higher comfort level. This helmet is fairly light (315g, sz. Medium). The subdued colors are nice (went with matte black). The pads in this helmet are different from the pads in my Torero. These look like they are going to hold up better. The best feature of this helmet is the 22 large vent holes. They are angled for air intake and actually seem to suck the air in as you ride. It also has a removable visor, which is pretty standard on MTB helmets. Bottom line the helmet is Cool both visually and functionally. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
