Favoriate Trail:Bromont
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $6.00
Purchased At:Forand sport
Strengths:Price
Weaknesses:Noisy, weak bearing,
Similar Products Used:aheadset
Bike Setup:Da bomb cr8 with bomber z3
Bottom Line:A headset that should only be for a cheap bike.
after all it did cost me 6$ brand new.
The steer tube was always loose or difficult to turn
I must have spent 2 or 3 hours triing to fit it onto my bike and it never was close to be like on a real performance bike. It was so bad that I never tried riding with it.

Weaknesses:i think i might be making noised cause i thought the noise was my stem but after reading these reviews ithing it might be the headset
Similar Products Used:none

Favoriate Trail:Bayview Arena
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $17.00
Purchased At:Grind
Strengths:It is a very smooth Headset. It works well on my bmx with the needle bearings at the bottom and the crown at the top. Smooth.
Weaknesses:If you don't make sure that the cups are in flush then it starts getting looser and looser after 10 minutes.
Similar Products Used:FSA Pig
Aheadset Tank
Bike Setup:DK General Lee with a Hoffman Super Fork. Snafu Gooseneck stem with Fit Foster Bars with Diatech Dirt Harry Lever. Alex Mx22 with Maxxis holy Roller (1.95)
Bottom Line:Its a great headset if you are gonna start out. But in the long run you prolly dont want to use it. But for the price it is pretty much worth it.

Favoriate Trail:na - use bike for going to work
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:came with bike
Strengths:The GeForce seems to be a good all round headset, but creaks and grinds a lot after the punishment I put it through. Well to have survived over 8000 miles in three years over not smooth terrain
Weaknesses:gets a bit stiff if not serviced regularly (fourth set of bearings)
Bike Setup:Carrera Vulcan frame
mavic x221 F/R
Deore LX rear Mech. A10 Front Mech

Favoriate Trail:Kickapoo section 2B

Similar Products Used:Diacompe, Cane Creek

Bottom Line:Dont buy this product. I am getting a FSA Orbit xtreme now.

Favoriate Trail:anything
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Hasn't given me any problems so far, does what it is supposed to do.
Weaknesses:None that I can see.
Bottom Line:I don't why other people are having such problems with this headset: it hasn't given me any problems. Perhaps they are not tightening it correctly. I found it pretty easy to set up; nothing to it really. But really one headset is much like another so I will give it 4 chillies.

Date Reviewed: June 1, 2001
Duration Product Used:6 months
Strengths:Looks good when you first get it.
Weaknesses:Comes loose all the fu*$#@! time.
Similar Products Used:NOTHING as bad as this. I use FSA Orbit Extreme and Chris King.
Bike Setup:Custom Cro frame, Z1 drop offs, XTR, XT, LX components.
Bottom Line:I got it for free and it was new, I thought I would save money and I did. Though I lost a lot of nerves....The lesson: pay the dow and get yourself smth decent--->it's worth it. YST is garbage, not sure who it was made for.

Date Reviewed: September 10, 2000
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:came with my bike
Strengths:none
Weaknesses:noisy, creaks when you go uphill
Similar Products Used:generic headsets
Bottom Line:if the YST headset comes with your bike, replace it at once if you don't want your bike to creak and squeak

except the noise the headset performs well for its price

I was surprised to see YST headsets on competition-level Xcountry bikes (I won't mention the manufacturer, but beware)

Favoriate Trail:the one that never ends...
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:works well as an object of scorn
Weaknesses:Ought to cost 5 bucks for how well it holds up
Similar Products Used:generic threaded headset (never had any probs)
Bike Setup:Giant frame with a mish-mash of parts, inexpensive, solid, custom, and reliable.
Bottom Line:This headset has never worked for me. Starts to 'clunk' almost immediately despite tightening, have had to replace the starnut twice (warped and lost grip). I ride everyday, mostly commuting... this headset was sold to me to replace my threaded headset when I got a susp. fork, if I knew then what I know now, I'd have payed an extra 30 or even 50 bucks and gone for something with a decent rep like a WTB or a King. I'll have to soon cuz' this YST is junk!!!

Submitted by Joshua Pelland a Weekend Warrior from Williamsburg MA
Date Reviewed: July 9, 1999
Duration Product Used:
2 Years
Strengths:
Cheap
Hasn't broke yet
Smooth enough
Weaknesses:
no trick factor
Similar Products Used:
I've tried just about every kind of headset...
Bike Setup:
This headset has been on:
GT LTS
DBR WCF Vertex
DBR V-Link 3.0
and has lasted fine on all of them
Bottom Line:Seems like a fine headset. I can't justify upgrading when this one works well and is apprantly pretty strong. I have no complaints about it.I would probably give it four stars for performance, since I know that the WTB and King headsets do feel a little smoother, however for the incredible value of these I give it 5 spontaneously combusted turds.

Submitted by Alex a Cross-Country Rider from Hawaii
Date Reviewed: June 15, 1999
Duration Product Used:
2 Years
Strengths:
Very cheap
Pretty Strong
Weaknesses:
Not guaranteed to work forever like a King is
Bike Setup:
1 threaded
'96 Jamis Durango
'97 Manitou SX
Profile stem
Bottom Line:I was impressed by this headset. My LBS threw it on for $15 when they installed my fork. If they had asked first I would have went for something better, but, no problems with the YST so far. I haven't overhauled it but it's still smooth. I was using a Lizard Skins seal though. I'm switching frames & going to a 1 1/8 threadless setup like everyone else, the FSA Orbit Xtreme will be my choice.
