Strengths:
Reasonable weight, stackheight reliability smoothness. Stays put and adjusted.
Weaknesses:
None that are apparant to this particular rider.
Bike Setup:
'99 Element. Rough XC build. Not hucking anytime soon.
Bottom Line:
After seeing fellow riders have problems with their headsets I have continued to install this same product on my bikes as I have had zero complaints. In fact, I have a hard time imagining what a "higher calibur" headset would do for my bike. Admittedly, I am a light (150#) and smooth (2 years per chain) and down to earth (3 foot drop MAX) rider. But this headset has takes alot of hits and crashes. Very infrequent ajustments and cleaning. No worse for it.

Does the job, pretty smoothe.
Weaknesses:
High stack height, makes short steerer tubes a problem
Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
If you aren't a real snob about headsets then this will probably be fine for you unless you are cutting it close with steerer tube length.

I bought the bike, and after 3 seasons of hard riding, I have never given this headset another thought...the ultimate compliment to a mountain bike component.

Strengths:
- in fact no maintenance - good look - like a VW beatl it goes and goes and goes
Weaknesses:
- price - it's a lot of headset and caused a lot of trouble if you want to use a fork with a short steering tube
Similar Products Used:
other ritchey headsets and the cannondale coda headset
Bike Setup:
to many frame-fork-combinations to list
Bottom Line:
this headset is our trouble-shooter. if i need a headset to try-out a new frame or a new fork i just take the skuzzy and lets go. sometime i wonder why this one is still working after so many session because not the riding is the problem . . . it's the installation-game. many headsets would have cracked. on the track this Ritchey is stiff and durable solution for people who are to silly for any maintenace. i guess the only one thats beats the Skuzzy for CC is the headset from Coda/Cannondale that keeps the Fattys and Lefty rotating.
