I have come away from a number of bailed jumps, thrown a lot of downhill rut bashing and trials at it, and this bar just grunts for more.

After one of the inserts broke loose, I called Profile to ask what kind of adhesive to use to repair it, and the warranty guy, John Cameron, told me to send it in and they would send me a replacement. $4 to ship it and a week later I had a brand spankin' new bar. Excellent customer service and warranty. For downhills and technical these bars rip. I'm amazed at how much more control I have over the bike nowadays. Allows you to get into an aggressive moto style posture(elbows out and up). Bunny hopping and jumping in general become much easier. Simply push the bars to one side and you can flick the bike sideways into a turn. My fun factor has doubled. I'm 6'4" and find my back and neck much less fatigued during/after riding. Only downside I see with riser bars are that they bring your weight up higher in the front making very steep climbs a little tougher but overall the benefits FAR outweigh this. full xtr/xt mega9 giant cadex alm | | Bottom Line: | these bars have been bashed for about three years now (bought them in '97) and have still held up to my riding abuse. i am confident in these bars will last for quite a while. the sweep and two inch rise are comfortable for my wrists and provide good support for my shoulders.
don't think twice about purchasing this bar, it's strong, have a great lifetime warranty, and the carbon weave looks splendid!

Let's get something straight - for the most part I hate carbon fiber. However, it does have it uses like in the Profile RS. Because of the aluminum core the bars will sag if they become fatigued, not shear like a normal carbon bar (dangerous). I bought the Profile XC CF bar last year for 65$ CDN. I was amazed at the low price. I bought it because of 1) Lifetime warranty 2) coolness factor 3)price.
I have not been disappointed at all. Profile is obviously very confident with this product to offer a lifetime warranty. I race, do hardcore xc riding, and some abusive 'playing around' at the university campus on stairs, dropoffs, concrete ledges, etc. This bar is super. During one race, I thought I felt a bit of flex in the bar on a steep torquing climb but have not felt it since. One warning though, do not overtighten bar-ends to the aluminum bits at the end of the bar. IF they get flattened at all, the aluminum bit will possibly loosen. Ask the bike shop if you don't know how much torque to tighten the bar ends with. | | Overall Rating: |

Love my Profile CF riser. Feels like it absorbs some trail 'buzz' and is pretty light to boot. I've been riding it hard for about 3 months now, with barends (can't live without 'em) and haven't had a problem. Previously had a similar flat bar and the durability was great. I did break it eventually but it held up longer than any alluminum bar would have. Got it at Bikeworld for a great price. My only complaint is that the riser section comes out too far so I can't move my brake levers in far enough, but I'm using separates and barends so that's my problem. I love Profile. They warranty everything for life, even crash damage. These bars are cheap, fairly light, and fell great. Put 'em on my hardtail and went for a spin on the road, noticed a lack of road buzz imediately. Hear about people losing the aluminum ends. Hell any *sshole that puts barends on risers deserves it! I just picked up this bar for $50 from Bike world. This is the cheapest I could find it. It is extremely stiff, yet supple enough to absorb some trail shock. Add a profile cross-brace, and you got your self one shit eatin DH or XC bar. It gives you a nice upright position, and the alluminum inserts are great for trimmin it down. ALSo I like how there are marks to measure the lengths on the inserts for cutting, that's a great feature. It is also awsome for jet-hoppin ( a bunny hop to all you MTB purists) I almost doubled my height form 14.7 inches to 27.8 inches.

I recently purchased the Profile Riser XC Carbon Fiber Bar and it totally kicks ass!! I had been riding flat bars, but after spending a day on a friend's bike with riser bars, I just had to make the switch! The rise gives you a more upright riding position -- which makes it great for climbing those short, STEEP drop-offs at The Dump. The Carbon Fiber really absorbs the bumps -- which is hard to get used to at first, but the feel is amazing! All in all, I have to say that these bars deserve 5 Flaming turds!! | | Overall Rating: |

I do love these bars.They are relitivly new to me,so I have had no problems like the ones posted below. Even so ,the below problems don't seem so bad that a little epoxy can't fix.The nice thing about the RS is that it has a relitivly small rise and mild sweep. Real good for the XCer that wants to try a riser. The feel of the carbon fiber is definitly a good one.I recomend these bars highly! Good price for the wieght. I mounted the bars on my GT last night. During the installation, as I tightened the barend to the bars. Crack - The BERT popped off! Darn! The BERT is just glued on the end of the bar. UGGH! What a letdown! Just recently put the riser bar on my Homegrown FS and thought it was kickin' until I took it off road. Loved it throughout most of the ride until I bumped a tree (no, not hooked) and BROKE the carbon fiber part, not just the aluminum insert. Needless to day I was awfully disappointed. Even with my bike shop employee discount it was still a lot of dough to dish out for it to break on the first ride. Despite the break, I loved the weight, size and looks of the bar so it gets an extra chilie for them. Guess I'll find out what Profile's crash replacement policy is. Well, my worst fears came true. Yesterday during a ride, I took a mild digger trying to hop over a tree. Nothing severe, just dumped the bike. But the barend reinforcement ring that protects the end of the bar from crushing just popped off. Looks like the ring is just super-glued in place. Now the barend wont stay on unless I move it over so that its clamped directly onto the CF itself. No good. I'm gonna see if Profile and Performance (where I got the dud bar) will honor the unconditional lifetime warranty. I'll revise my earlier review to one flaming turd. | | Overall Rating: |

This is for the flat XC model.. So far, I've been pleased in the two weeks I've ridden on this bar. The slight shock absorption it provides is very comfy.. It looks cool, but not flashy. The carbon weave doesnt really stand out unless the light hits it right, then BLAMO! Dang that thing is cool! Only criticisms are that the big PROFILE logos on the ends makes it a bit slippery for the grips to hang on. Just use a little smudge of SHOE GOO (the best goddam product ever invented) and the grips will sit tight. Also, the bar seemed a little narrow compared to the Control Tech bar I replaced, but I got used to it after the first ride..
Best of all, I got it for $40 at Performance and it comes with an UNCONDITIONAL LIFETIME WARRANTY. Hope I never have to use it; its hard to return something if youre a cadaver. | | Overall Rating: |

I have been riding for the past year with a Profile fiber riser bar and have
really been pleased with this product. Some of the riding terrain around
this area particularly on the North Shore can be very steep, technical
and hairy. These bars certainly improve your riding position, alleviate some
of the vibration, and have handled some nasty spills without catastrophic
consequences. I did manage to ding the end of the bar after launching head
first over a log, the bike landing hard on one of the bar-ends. This managed to
pop the aluminum inset out and disfigure the bar but only at the tip so no major
damage. I just picked up a second bar for a bike I am presently building for a
mere $50 from Bike World. Do yourself a favour and try one out if you are in

It is obvious to me that this bar is a great overall bar due to it's incredible weight for a riser, its stylin great looks and its good ride. It seems to dampen some small vibrations, but is still a very stiff bar. I've never broken one, but if you ever do,( not likely) you will be less likely to hurt yourself. The wrapped carbon fibre will not allow for the bar to snap right off. I especially liked the width of the bar and the idea of the measurements and aluminum end which allow for you to cut down to certain lengths. This is one nice handlebar. I actually own last year's model, which was a bar narrower than most rise bars, and with a downsweep at the ends of the bar, rather than the more common upsweep. I imagined it was intended as a more cross-country-oriented bar, and it worked great for technical trails and such. This year's is wider and looks more like the average downhill-specific bar, but has aluminum end pieces that can be trimmed, although it still has upsweep. Either way, the handlebar is really nice, light at 250 grams, plenty strong enough for a 175 pound rider, relatively cheap at 65 bucks, and the carbon fiber (over the aluminum center) looks awesome. It does what a riser bar is supposed to do, but for cross-country riders, I would recommend looking for the old version with the downsweep, which really seems to be good for technical trails. | | Overall Rating: |
