Description:The Orange Crush is designed for the secret headbanger in all of us. It can be ridden to the edge and back, and it’ll always come back for more. The Crush’s secret ingredients are is its brand new super-rigid 6061-T6 Aluminium frame, and its hard-core trail geometry, allowing a 140 mm travel fork to get busy over the ripples and bumps, yet handle the big boulders on the most challenging trails.
Reassuringly constructed, the custom hydro-formed downtube, with its oversize flared top section makes full contact with the ring reinforced head-tube, resisting any unwanted flexing forces coming from the forks as they take the big hits. The new frame design features round section seat-stays which add comfort and take some of the trail ‘zing’ out of the ride, but always ensuring every ounce of energy you put through the cranks is transferred via the chunky 2.35" tyres into fast-forward motion.
With a superb cherry picked component spec rarely seen in a ‘standard’ package, the 2008 Crush is a bike that makes you realise what ‘it’ is all about.

$2000.00 | | Purchased At: | Stif Bikes, Leeds | | Strengths: | Solid as a rock. Confidence inspiring. | | Weaknesses: | The rear end can leave you a little saddle sore after a long ride. Not a whippet up hills, but its not a pure XC machine, though their only minor grumbles. | | Bike Setup: | Stock save some Azonic platform pedals. | | Bottom Line: | I've had the bike a week and did 20(odd) miles on it today. So this is only a first impressions review. I own a 2007 bike. I brought it to replace my 2003 Giant AC bike as I wanted something more XC aimed.
The term "All Mountain" suits it fine. I went riding with a XC nut today and he left me behind on roads and uphills, but on rough ground and downhill I took the lead. This is where the Crush comes into its own.
The stock tyres arn't the fastest rolling tyres I've used. As I want to lean more in the XC direction I will be changing them soon. I'm 6'1"(ish) and brought the 19inch frame. It fits well enough, but the cockpit is a little tight, so a longer stem will solve this. But as with all new bikes it takes some time to get them setup how you like.
The fork can be a little pogo-stickish on climbs, but again on the downhill sections it comes into its own.

$1695.00 | | Purchased At: | GA Cycles, Southampton | | Strengths: | Strong Orange frame with excellent geometry, gives you a solid ride with fantastic sense of control, agility comes as standard. The shape of the frame places the weight of the rider appropriately on the rear wheel giving consistant power delivery for those uphill slogs and downhill burns. Bike is kitted with very acceptable components designed for the more rigorous cross-country. | | Weaknesses: | Some components fitted as standard carry unnecessary weight, e.g. Hayes discs. Truvativ Hussefelt handlebars are quite wide, reducing those already slim chances of making it through!! | | Similar Products Used: | Rocky Mountain Hammer, Gary Fisher HKEK, Cannondale F600 plus others. | | Bike Setup: | Retail standard Orange Crush but with Easton Cully pedals, Saint cranks, SRAM front derailleur. | | Bottom Line: | I love this bike. The best i've ridden. Great for steep downhill (but with out drops), blinding on flat trails where reaction times are as important as speed, rolls up and over hills like a 4X4!! I would recomend this bike to anyone. But be warned this a dedicated XC/All mountain bike. Thus it's a bit thicker to ride on road, swap over those Sun single-trak tyres for some of lighter tread and that should help, but this bike is definately only its true character when on unfriendly terrain. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
