Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Solid build quality. Great looks. Stable Platform by Manitou REALLY works. This bike is only 5-10% slower than my Trek Fuel 98 which weighs 10 pounds lighter! It pedals uphill very well and I have no problems pedalling aggressively for 10 miles and more! It is a very smooth All-Mountain bike. All of the components are very adequate in quality - other similarly equipped bikes cost $200-500 more!
Weaknesses:A little too upright. Front fork (Manitou Stance) is very soft, albeit supple. Unfortunately, the only way to increase the compression is through a spring swapout. Top tube is a little short in length for my liking. Shimano Hollowtech cranks are probably the cheapest part of this bike.
Similar Products Used:Trek Fuel 98, Norco Team DH, Specialized BigHit, Foes Weasel, Haro Escape 7.3
Bike Setup:Manitou Stance fork (150mm), Manitou Metal shock (150/170mm), Hayes Nines with 8" rotors, Alex Rims DP20, Deore/LX. 37 pounds overall.
Bottom Line:This bike is very efficient for its weight. Easy to pedal. Very soft, smooth suspension. Great value for under $2,000! Why go with a cross-country bike when you can have so much more fun with this? Buy it if you aren't quite a downhiller, but you want to have fun; yet, you can still pedal it just about anywhere. Frankly, I was looking to buy the K2 Lithium (because it was a little lighter, but with less suspension) thinking it would be the ultimate XC bike. But after riding the Scott Nitrous up a 1/4 mile hill and then over curbs, etc., I was absolutely hooked. Every time I ride this, I just like the bike more and more!!!

Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:Incycle
Strengths:Lightweight,m Inexpensive, Brakes (hayes 9), Looks, 1.5" headtube. Manitou Metal shock outpreformed expectations
Weaknesses:Forks, wheels, pedals, stem, grips.
Bike Setup:04' junior T, Loco front wheel, Atomic labs rear rim with bombshell hub, tioga pedals, truvativ hussfelt chain guide, cut seat post, Wider tires. 9 speed. lock on grips
Bottom Line:There was another reviewer who had it right on the money. The stance fork locked up on the first ride and was warrantied. The seat post was too long. But everyone always comments that it is very light. The bike has evolved into a capable downhill rig after all the "weak" parts were replaced. Somehow the swing arm got dented to hell but it seems to be holding up. So over all it is a great bike.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:off a forum
Strengths:The frame is really good, strong due to all the gussets and thick welds. this doesnt mean its heavy because it isnt at all. infact its quite light for a freeride or downhill bike.
Weaknesses:Rear shock (Manitou Metel). i dont know if this is a weekness because ive got a 450 spring on and idealy i should have a 650. So testing the platform will come when i fit my new spring.
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:Free ride, downhill. Hope front brake, Hayes Back brack, Halo rims 24"
Bottom Line:Ive had the bike a week now and this thing rocks bigtime, eventhough ive had a 450 spring on the back i havnt bottomed out yet. Get shut of the standard forks cos they are just pants. and youve got yourself a really nice bike.

Favoriate Trail:Fort William DH
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:Leisure Lakes
Strengths:Very Strong Frame; Flex-Free; Amazing Value; Versatile; Has Heaps of Upgrade potential; Looks amazing; Fantastic Suspension Action; Telescopic seatpost etc etc.
Weaknesses:Stem too long. Absolutely crap forks - mine went solid on the first run, but got new seals under warrenty.
Similar Products Used:Kona Coiler, Kona Shred, Giant Faith, Santa Cruz VP-Free, Specialized Demo 8, Cannondale Gemini, Norco 6
Bike Setup:Stock, with Marzocchi 66RC forks (170mm), Eason Vice Stem, Mavic EX729 Rims, on Hope Bulb Hubs, DMR V8 Pedals, Bash Gaurd.
Bottom Line:This is an amazing bike! I had the 2004 version (see review below), which got stolen (Grrr), but I liked it so much, I bought the 2005 version, over all other bikes. It has amazing handling, and is very agile, and has the ability to get the front up easily, due to it being well balanced, and quite light. I have set it up with more hard core parts than originally put on, which are heavier, but it still is extremely nimble, and you can flick it about to get out of dodgy situations. It jumps very well, and can be manouvred around in the air well. As well as being amazing at Freeride and DH type riding, the Nitrous can be taken uphills well, due to the telescopic seatpost (needs to be cut down a bit), and its lightish weight. It is definately not an XC bike, and can bounce a little, as it is single pivot, and has 7inches of travel. But still, it means that you can pedal to the top, taking slightly longer than XC bikes, but then absolutely thrash them on the Downhill sections. It eats up bumps very well, and loves speed, and bumpy sections, and comes into its own on singletrack. In conclusion, it is an amazing bike, and when set up correctly, can act as a Downhill bike, Freeride, or All Mountain machine. Amazingly well made, tough, strong, and nimble with good suspension action, which works through all areas of its travel to give a comfy, and amazing ride.

Favoriate Trail:Chicksands & Nevis Range
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1350.00
Purchased At:Hargroves
Strengths:2005 model. Ace frameset if a little bouncy pedaling uphill. Strong, Stiff and Light. Small frame great for getting weight outboard
Weaknesses:Rubbish fork that came with bike (manitou stance flow 150mm) was not smooth and i had sticking problem on 3 occasions in wet weather. Welded stem.
Similar Products Used:Kona Cowan Sus Frame 2006
Bike Setup:As stock bar Marzocchi 66 Forks, Diablous stem, E-Thirteen DRS Chain Guide
Bottom Line:For hard riders on a budget (like me), this bike ROCKS out the box. Make a few small component changes like I did and you get an ace bike that goes down fast. Even after a handfull of (rather large) crashes mine only has paint damage!

Favoriate Trail:big finn hill
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1700.00
Purchased At:Bothell Ski & Bike
Strengths:light frame, telescope seat post, suspension can withstand a beating
Weaknesses:front shock is too soft out the box, stock tire pattern could be better for grip, the rear shock can get bouncie while seating down pedaling over small bumps
Similar Products Used:Big Hit Comp, Kona Stinky, Cannodale Prophet 600
Bike Setup:upgraded to a stiffer spring for the front shock for $20, Shimano PD M545 pedal
Bottom Line:This bike is awesome for the price. The frame on this bike is built like a tank, yet it's lighter than the most competitors in this price ranch. The suspension plays a big part in getting longer hangtime. Three things I hear frenquently from other freeriders on the trail;who sales Scotts, you only payed that much for that bike, man your bike is light.

Strengths:(2004 version)Fantastic Frame, Very Plush Suspention, Great Handling and excellent fork. Good Components, which are reliable. Very powerful Brakes(shimano M525). Able to pedal uphills as well as blasting down them.
Weaknesses:Not particularly good pedals.
Similar Products Used:Kona Shred, Kona Coiler
Bike Setup:Stock with DMR V8 Pedals
Bottom Line:Fantastic Bike, with very good handling, and amazing suspention action front and rear. I have taken it over hundreds of large jums and a few drop-offs and have not even bottomed out, but it feels so smooth, and gives you confidence to go bigger and bigger. Just chuck it down anythig and hold on.
