Favoriate Trail:kung fu theatre
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1900.00
Purchased At:theecho
Strengths:it sucks like none other, had it for about 4 months, then i tacoed the rims, bottomed out on only a 8 foot drop.
Weaknesses:fork, breaks squeek, my rims came a little bent already due to crappy shipping, and it wont go to the highest gear
Similar Products Used:none as ****y as this one
Bottom Line:this bike sucks. i it. never get this bike. you would be stupid to get it. if u do i hope the fork bends BACKWARD and smashes you in the face

Date Reviewed: January 1, 2005
Favoriate Trail:Any trail at Plattekill or Diablo
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1700.00
Purchased At:Second Hand
Strengths:Pedals thru anything. Very adjustable. No more broken deraillers or chains. Fun to ride.
Weaknesses:Hard to get replacement drop outs or other parts. Weight! I wish it was 10 lbs. lighter, but at least it's balanced.
Similar Products Used:I owned a Stab Primo but the only thing that can compare is a Brooklyn
Bike Setup:03' Nucleon ST w/Avalanche DHS ti spring, 03 Dorado, Hope Mono 6 Ti, Hollzefeller cranks, Wellgo Mag pedals, SDG Satelite saddle, Thompson post, Pro Taper bars, Mavic 821 on Hugi DT Swiss Hubs, Maxxis Minion ST w/ Stan's no tubes
Bottom Line:I purchased this frame because I liked the Rohloff hub so much on my freeride bike that I wanted it on my DH bike. The Nucleon allows you to run a Rohloff and a 12mm thru axle by putting the transmision in the frame. The Rohloff is 1 lb. heavier then a normal drive train but at least the weight is in the center of the frame. You also have an advantage when pedaling thru muddy, rooty sections because there is no chain skip. The frame is a work of art especially the spot welding.

Date Reviewed: December 4, 2004
Favoriate Trail:Fetty
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $6000.00
Purchased At:ProBikeSport, Innerliethen
Strengths:Model - 2004 Nucleon FR170
Seems very strong. No derailures due to the Rohloff hub mounted above the bottom bracket. Excellent gear change, even as you roll into a section, no pedalling required. Available with a 1.5" Headtube to take Sherman Breakout plus forks.
Rides like a dream.
Chains never fall off.
No rear mech to rip off.
No front mech to damage.
Weaknesses:Bottom bracket is a little low - may suit 888 forks?
Chain tensioner creats drag.
Crapy bolts - replaced with stainless from local store for £5
100mm bottom bracket - ISIS only - not the best.
Gearbox housing can rub your ankles - or bite chunks when it gets techy.
Chain constantly spinning - extra drag - and needs lubricated (Scottoiler)
Usual Rohloff 7-8 hesitation but you get used to it.

Tends to draw a crowd.
Similar Products Used:There is nothing similar!

But I've used shimano/sram for years so I thought Rohloff next - and this has to be the ultimate Rohloff Bike.
Bike Setup:Nicolai Nucleon FR170 - Rohloff mounted above the Bottom Bracket - Sherman Breakout Plus forks - RaceFace Diabolus kit and Michelin Tubeless tyres.

Mine is very low geared - equivalent to a 20x34 low and a 32x11 top (so equivalent to decent 2 x 9 drivetrain).
Bottom Line:It's one hell of a bike. It's not perfect. The compromises to do away with the normal drivetrain create their own problems. But I think they are worth living with.
A full spread of gears, and no chance of the chain falling off - super cool.

It's like a full-on DH bike - but it has low gears and can be pedalled up hills as well - how cool is that?

Oh - and it looks the nuts!
