    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Price Paid: $400.00
    Purchased At:Ebay.
Strengths:See my previous post below, in addition to that, My son is now almost 11 and growing like a weed, A nice addition to this Big hit Grom as your kid Grows Add a Set of 26" wheels
this corrects the low Bottom bracket problem and I think will give the bike a whole new feel as far as speed! and now I won't have to buy a new DH bike for him ... Yet.
Weaknesses:with 24" wheels the bike is slow in the rough stuff, and the head angle is steep.

    Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:Completly custom! 7" boxxer(1 spring) fork, magura FR brakes 8" rotors, fox Vanilla RC coil, azonic 50mm stem, scandium Bar, roox 165 cranks, MRP slalom Guide, spd's Race Face Ti BB, Ti saddle, Dee max 26" wheels 2.2 tires, hopey steering damper, This is one sweet ride!

Strengths:Great Little Bike for my 10 yer old Ripper! strong, so I don't need to worry with a good strong set of Components.
Weaknesses:Head angle is a little steep ( fixxed that with a slightly taller fork and new rear shock. and the wheelbase could be shorter. should come with 160 cranks not 165. heavy Hubs
otherwise a great bike, I am just picky from racing downhill bikes for years.
Similar Products Used:Home made 20"wheeled modified kids bike I spent a lot of time and money, had fox shock, Ti BB 150 cranks
Bike Setup:Rock shox Psylo Air, Azonic shorty Magura Marta Discs, Fox float AVA rear shock, Ultegra Rear deraileur, Profile 160mm Aluminum cranks, Titainium BB, Real 9sp hubs, Scandium Bar, Hopey Steering damper, Ti Seat, King Headset, Easton Cully Pedals this thing is Rigged and probably cost more than my Gemini once i finnished building it!!! is is Way lighter than stock and rides great - I would recomend air for and shock as I could not find soft enough springs for either end
Bottom Line:Awsome Bike that I spent way too much money on but I know my Kid has the coolest Bike on the mountain!

I wish My Dad had built me this when I was a Kid...

Strengths:Disc brakes are O.K, The HMX2's make a bit of noise but not much compared to my old shimano's. The eight inch front rotor is a lot better than my friends six inch. I really like the tires too. Good chain guide.Cool handle bars and stem!
Weaknesses:The front fork could be improved. I'm thinking of putting on a used drop-off triple. Rear derailleur is not the best but you could fix that easily.
    Similar Products Used:None
    Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:This a good deal compared to msome of the other bikes I have been looking at. A good bike for smaller downhillers and freeriders. With a few upgrades this bike could be a good downhill worthy bike.

Strengths:Outstanding frame including some really cool welds with sick top tube, very good single pivot design. Component selection, cranks, bb, stem, bars (the 31.8 is a nice touch) are all top notch stuff and surprising for this price point. The Hayes mechanicals are nice, these little guys really dont need hydraulics, but I think the Avid mechanicals work a little better. Incredible price if you consider the only other options are 1) a Kona Stinky 24 at over double the price or 2) Build a 24" bike out of something else, guaranteed to be a big project for way more than 700 bucks. Also the weight is acceptable for a bike with this much beef.
Weaknesses:They cut corners on the fork, shock and rear derailler (easy fix) to keep the price way down. This is probably fine if your Grom is only going to do moderate riding, but my little ripper is a very aggressive rider for 9 years old. Also the side walls on the Specialized 24" tires are very thin and my kid (75 lbs) pinch flatted the front even with a dh tube.
Similar Products Used:A few garage made 24" bikes and a coverted Mongoose 20" wheeled bike I built, Kona Stinky 24 (I ride an Armaggedon and a Disco Volante, so I'm used to real dh bikes)
Bike Setup:Pretty muck stock, but use a different narrower seat and took out one spring from the shock when doing normal riding, but put it back in when he's doing big hits.
Bottom Line:This is an outstanding bike for the money, I know most parents won't want to throw down even 700 bucks for a bike a kid can only ride downhill and fr. If I have to explain, then they wont understand anyway. But for the rest of us who ride with our kids, and don't mind throwin down a little, it's a great start. If your kid is a normal to timid rider, just take one spring out of the fork and let him rip. I am in the process of losing the fork for a '98 6" travel Boxxer with one heavy spring and light oil. I'm having to rebuild the front wheel for the 20mm thru axle, but the other option might be all the five and six inch travel qr forks out there. I like dual crown so you can lower the crowns to keep the head angle from being too slack. Another great fork option would be the Marzocchi Drop Off, a 6" dual crown spring/air qr OEM fork. You can't get one new, but may be able to find someone who's selling one.
Also, the little brat bent his chain ring on a rock, so I have replaced the cheap ring with a Truvativ DH ring and a single ring guard. If you dremel a groove on the outside of the shark fin on the chain guide you can use a ring guard without having to go to an MRP or the like. The shock has been pretty good so far if the rebound is set up right as long as the kid won't touch the dial.

This bike is a great value and a great platform to start with. A few mods to make a truly downhill race worthy kids bike.
