Favoriate Trail:mail box UCSC
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $900.00
Purchased At:e bay
Strengths:Its a good down hiller because it weighs so much. It pedals really nice and it has eight inches of travel so you can huck it really huge
Weaknesses:its a tall bike and the stock shock sucks so much so you need to get a different one I have 5th elemnt and its prime.
Similar Products Used:big hit
Bike Setup:5th elemnt shock, boxxer forks, hayes nine brakes, double track front rim,WTB laser disk rear rim,the paint is army green and it looks pimpin, kenda kinetics front tire, maxxis mobster rear tire
Bottom Line:This is a good bike for around here cause theres nothing that huge only like some 10 or 20 foot drops. There used to be some big north shores on mail box but they took them down. This iron horse sgs pro is nice but its kind of a copy of a big hit but i still live it.

Favoriate Trail:the Sluce, Lake Tahoe
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $1500.00
Purchased At:Supergo Seattle
Strengths:Built to take anything. Great suspension components, plush ride.
Weaknesses:Geared too high for normal use. Rear shock mount is not made correctly, yup you read right, it's not made to correct tolerances and Iron Horse actually knows about it!
Bike Setup:I changed the front small chainring to a smaller ring, pedalling up the hills is much better now. I also had to revamp the lower rear shock mount to fix the tolerances and make it reliable. I also changed the stem to a longer Answer stem to make the cockpit more comfortable, it was a bit cramped.
Bottom Line:I was wearing out the lower rear shock bushing every 3 hours. This resulted in a huge amount of play in the rear suspension. Ridiculous! This occured frequently enough that I tried to contact Iron Horse about the problem, I figured that this could not be normal and that I had something that they needed to take a look at. I had to literally threaten Iron Horse with sending my sad story to everybody who will listen to get them to respond (That took 3 months and emails and faxes to everybody I could find with an Iron Horse address!). Iron Horse told me that they didn't match the shocks to the linkage hardware, depending on what type of shock you get on the bike (I have an Answer SPV 3-way) causing the premature wearing of the bushing. They also said that they would "custom grind" some parts for me to fix the problem. So, a couple of weeks later I got my new parts straight from the Iron Horse factory. I didn't realize that when they said they would have the parts "custom ground" that they had a blind monkey in a back room with a grinder that did the work. The parts I got were truly groung on a wheel and weren't even done straight!!!! I made a new set of parts that came out almost perfect. I used a hacksaw and a file. It took 30 minutes to fabricate the two parts I needed and they came out loads better than the idiot Iron Horse parts. You would think that if Iron Horse knew about the problem that they would have an actual machinist making replacement parts for the complaining customers, not the monkey with the grinder. The bike works now, thanks to me, no thanks to Iron Horse. I give the bike a low rating now, due to Iron Horse's incredibly bad customer service, their knowledge of a problem and lack of initiative to fix it, and the fact that they expect their customers to accept shoddy workmanship as normal. I will never buy another Iron Horse product. I may love the bike and it's incredible suspension, but the company is a joke!

Favoriate Trail:Pipeline and Cannonball
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1700.00
Purchased At:Universal Cycles
Strengths:Forget baby heads this thing can float over cow heads. Both front and rear suspension very tunable, plush, and efficient. Infact the front and rear suspension are more efficient than my previous C'dale Jekyll's Lefty and Fox Float RL with Propedal. Great cornering and control. Dual rings allow for uphill riding. All parts are high quality and proven performers. E13 chainguide is awesome I have never dropped a chain. This bike made me a better rider and inspires confidence on any terrain.
Weaknesses:Small cockpit makes steep or technical uphills challenging or requires walking. A little on the heavy side for all mountain purposes but weight helps on dh.
Similar Products Used:Cannondale Jekyll
Bike Setup:Stock with heavier springs front and rear as I am 200lbs.
Bottom Line:Top dollar bike and ride for a bottom dollar price. I have yet to crash it hard to test how tough it is but that is because the bike plows through everything. You must get this bike. You will be able to ride bigger, faster, and crazier than ever before. The only bike that is better in this price range are the newer 7Point Iron Horses.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1500.00
Purchased At:Supergo, Seattle
Strengths:Extremely plush suspension. SPV shock works like Manatou claims. Will take hard hits and drops. Exactly what is needed for stunts and downhill!
Weaknesses:Heavy, 40 lbs by my scale. Lower rear shock pivot has a bushing that wears out every 12 to 24 hrs of riding. I think this is a bit too quick. If you have to pedal uphill, the wieght and the taller gearing are not fun to deal with.
Bike Setup:I swapped out the 50mm stem for a 75mm. This made the bike feel a bit roomier and gave me some leverage for pedaling to the top of the trails. I also added some Crank Bros Mallet C pedals.
Bottom Line:Great bike for the price. The suspension works incredibly well. I am able to bomb downhill and take jumps and stunts that I couldn't normally, all due to the suspension sucking up the hard hits and mistakes. Definetly an awesome bike. Not great if you go for longer rides and need to pedal uphill, but the bike pays off when you hit the gravity sections! 5 Chilis for value, but only 4 Chilis overall because of the wieght to gear ratio. I'm going to swap out one of the front chainrings for a smaller one and get better gearing. This should help me get to the top easier. I recommend this bike for the freeride/downhill riders, if you are looking for a bike that will be for regular trail rides, this isn't it.

Date Reviewed: June 17, 2005
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1500.00
Purchased At:supergo
Strengths:Xlnt components, takes big hits, sweet suspension!
Weaknesses:Seat post too long, after dropping the seat and hitting a few jumps I scarred the paint on the rocker. My own fault, but there should be a stop on the post to make things nice and simple.
Similar Products Used:Old Univega Dual Action.
Bottom Line:Awesome! I've been riding my Univega for about 15 years and have been dreaming of more than 3" of travel in the rear (since I had been bottoming out on jumps). I had been looking at the Iron Horse for a while, and since Supergo had them on sale, my wife splurged and picked one up for me (I guess she figured I'd quit drooling and getting the sofa all wet). So far I've put several hours in the saddle. The bike is heavy and since I'll be pedalling up the hills for the few minutes of downhill ecstasy, I'm switching out the pedals for Crank Bros Mallets. But so far I've been out hitting a few jumps and putting it through the paces and I'm loving it! Very solid, plush suspension, rock solid components. Supergo cut a smokin' deal, can't be happier!

Favoriate Trail:Oakley
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $1700.00
Purchased At:Supergo
Strengths:Incredible strength. Especially for the price. You can jump just about anything with this and walk away happy.
Weaknesses:Stock spring on the rear shock is a little weak. Consider putting one on that's more heavy-duty. Also consider cutting the seatpost a little bit. Otherwise you'll leave some ugly marks on the swingarm.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Big Hit, Weyless (forgot the model name), Ironhorse SGS Expert, Kona Stinky
Bike Setup:Pretty much stock other than a heavier spring.
Bottom Line:This is the best deal you can get on a bike. This literally pays itself off after the first ride. Its especially great as an intermediate bike for someone who wants to upsize without spending a lot of cash. I've ridden it off of all sorts of drops and it has been through countless packs. It's built like a tank and will take whatever you throw at it. It's a bit of an overkill if you are new to the sport though, because you may find it a little heavy and less agile than some of the beginner bikes. Any biker will agree that it is truly a great buy.

Favoriate Trail:Exit 27
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $2000.00
Purchased At:supergo of seattle
Strengths:The combination of all the components with a great frame design is bulletproof.
Weaknesses:The Boxer Race is a little springy due to the lack of adjustability. The rear shock assembly was really squeeky (fixed this by taking it apart and greasing it all up) The tires appear to be cheaply made but are very affective.
Similar Products Used:Bullit`s, Norco VPS Launch & Atomik, Haro Extreme, intense M1, Kona Stinky, Stinky dee lux, and Stab, Specialized Big hit`s...tried them all.
Bike Setup:stock for now maybe a dorado or super t later
Bottom Line:This bike was the best bang for the buck i could find. I looked for nearly 3 years for the best burly full suspension bike, and this is the one. For the price you cant go wrong. Supergo is the place to get it but go through it once you do some things need to be tightened and gone through. This bike makes me want to go huck off everything, i cant wait to see how far this bike and i can go.
