Bottom Line:The Magellan GPS 2000 in 2007 is possibly the worst GPS I have used in my lifetime. New position initialisation takes forever and a day, it loses the waypoints if the batteries are removed for too long, and you have no way of saving waypoints in case batteries are removed except for manually transferring them :-( the user interface was poorly designed and the map feature is only updated everytime you switch to it from another menu.
With this experience I doubt if I'll ever purchase another Magellan GPS.
Good luck biting your lip and trying to use this GPS for what it was intended. If someone gives you one, you'll know why they gave it away!

Bottom Line:
The Magellan GPS 2000 XL is a rugedized hand-held unit. The one feature that gives this GPS system a distinctive advantage over others is the simplicity of use. The unit allows you to store waypoints and name them. You can then mix and match your waypoints and create routes, or go to any one specifically. I find it difficult to screw-up while using it. The only drawback is that I still need a map and compass as a backup (to feel confident) of what the 2000 XL tells me -- also, what if I accidentally drop the unit! I keep my unit powered-off, and stored in a Zip-Loc bag in a safe place. I take it out only when necessary, like at a crossroad, or a landmark. This is not to be confused with the Cadillac NorthStar System, or any such piece of crap. The GPS 2000 XL is a powerful tool.
