Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Purchased At:Bike Scene
Strengths:Strong as hell. Can b used for a wide range off applications, Downhill, Racing , Freeride i.e diving off any cliff u dare and even Dirt jumoing if your that way inclinged, i take it to yeovil djs all the time and as long as the lipps havent been built by bmx rat u can do any thing a 26" hardtail rider can.
Weaknesses:Dont get me wrong i love my steed but there are a few weeknesses. 1, if u have the 04 wiv the 04 6way swinger it practicaly impossible to adjust full on the frame, easy fix tho , get a 07 six way cheap off CRC witch needs no tools to adjust and makes life much better. 2, The back swing arm assy is built for huge cliffs not little patter rocks, theres so much bulk back there i takes alot ov force to get it moving, this is probly why it seems to hang up on rocks and steps. 3, The weight , ah wel eh.
    Similar Products Used:Santa cruz V10
Bike Setup:Basicly i dont belive in buying components with big brothers, i all ways go for the best on the marked, so the bike haz a very high spec. I dont know what the exchange rate is so i didnt put a price but it cost me £4500 to build from new
Bottom Line:If you want a bike that you can Fing thrash and not worry than the Demo 8 or 9 a are welly bikes to consider. oh yeah forget the demo7, wots the point in having all that extra weight for 7" ov travle, get an SX Trail

Bike Setup:loads of stuff 2 much to list
Bottom Line:Everyone says it is 2 heavy but if you watch your build the weight is about 40 pounds which is about the going rate for a DH bike. My Demo is just about 40 pounds right now and it still could go on a bit of a diet. The bike feels very stable at speeds and it sucks up drops like they were a bump in the road. I love the bike!!!. I wish Specialized was still making them today.

Bike Setup:2006 - Medium Demo 9 pro (stock)
Bottom Line:Like others have said, the bike is plush, it rolls over everything, and cornering is pretty good too. The bike is stable in the and I've never bottomed the bike (I'm 190lb).

Besides the difculty with adjusting the shock, I think the bike is easy to maintain. All the parts are well built (big and strong).

Although the Demo is a little heavy, once you get it rolling it doesn't want to stop or slow down.

Who should get this bike? more like who shouldn't? It's a fun bike, you can go fast and not worry about rocks, bumps or roots tossing you off-line. You can even race it, I did and placed top 3 all year.

Bottom Line:Rode too many DH rigs too start picking the bones on the demo 9 but out of all of them i feel like i have the chance to be a better rider. The bike rides like it's on rails and the suspension on this baby just eats the trails.Bottom line it is not for the novice or to get you to work and back and if you did use it on the road be ready to be passed by old ladies because this suckers HEAVY........All in all a great DH rig and the best i have used so far it looks and feels like your dream woman/man but not for the faint hearted if you only ever get one bike make sure it's a specialized DEMO 9.

Bike Setup:888RC2x, Manitou Swinger 6 Way, E-13 DRS...
Bottom Line:Its an AWESOME bike. Nothing is better than a Demo on a dh run. The BB height is fine if you're good enough to keep the pedals in the right position. The lower clearance is definetely outweighed by the better cornering. Weight? Nothing wrong with it. Its a DH bike! If its too light, you'll be bucked off. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some stereroid taking hammerhead. I'm a 55kg (110lb), 15 y.o. If I can deal with it, so can you. Lose the weight somewhere else.

The Demo rails every corner, easy to pedal (thanks to dual chainrings), very stable on air or ground. GET ONE ASAP! I'm even more stoked - it was so cheap the LBS may as well have given it to me.

The suspension is awesome, dynamic enough to cope with anything and make it feel like it wasn't even there. You can choose to take a good line through some rough stuff or just smash through it - either way, you'll still be fast.

    Keep safe, have fun

Strengths:Smooth action from the rear suspension. Bullet proof frame. Laid back and agressive. Good setup stock
Weaknesses:When I bought the bike it had a 450lb spring in the rear. This was my first full suspension bike and I went big and didn't realize what I was doing to the poor rear shock and swing arm. I ended up bending the 4-way swinger, and cracking the inner triangle where the sock mount to it. I was able to get a new one waranteed from specilized. But without the warranty it would have been 600$. So beware your srping needs I guess. I now run a 650lb spring and I only way 180. And the 888rc is all busted up now but oh well, can't really count that against the demo.

Bottom Line:my first big hit bike, the geometry is more on the freeride side as opposed to downhill. i took it to thredbo for new years and it made me faster every run, great bike. just wish it had a slacker head angle. bit of a pain to remove the shock, but easily done in around 5 minutes. for a non boutique brand bike that's mass produced, specialized has created a work of art. soon to be putting a boxxer world cup on to get the weight down. never heard of the demo 9's snapping, though i have heard of 05 model demo 8's snapping/cracking aroung the bb forging. i've had no problems in the 6 months i had mine, but who knows? good luck. mick.

very very long, in fast downhill it is THE best.

    it's beautiful.
    it can pedal very well.
it can use 26x3.0 gazza tires ON REAR!!!!! TWENTYSIX!!!!
    very low center of gravity.
very good construction. half of the weight it's made by FORGED pieces. no cnc, FORGED!!!

You must unmount the frame to umount the shock

Bottom Line:It's THE extreme freeride bike.
i made 1000 mt uphill trip, and it pedals well.
in downhill... nobody can find the limits.
    drops? no problem.
single track? well.... take a M size, the L is very long
High speeds on rocks? wow! it's STABLE!!!!
low speed on rocks? it's good, only a little low center of gravity, can touch the pedal on ground.

do you want a "3 hour trip uphill, then downhill", "a day of pure downhill", "10 hours of 3 mt drops", "i do what i want, uphill, downhill, or both"? it is your bike.

Strengths:Frame is by far the nicest looking frame made today. It is indestructible, but still sexy. The parts spec is OK, but that's what Ebay's for. The silver finish that came on the 2004 model never scratches regardless of how many yard sales and stupid lift operators is sees.
Weaknesses:Stock 888, Hayes and Swinger had to go. It's ridiculous the stock tires are so big and heavy and that the bike doen't come with a dual ring chainguide.
Similar Products Used:M1, IH SGS, Big Hit, Cuervo, RMX, Boxxer, Dorado
Bike Setup:I bought a brand new 2004 at the end of last summer and slapped on an 06 DHX and 40RC2 (night and day to stock, I don't care what you think) and Thomp 4x, along with new XT brakes, and E13 DRS. Looking forward to getting rid of the beastly tires before this summer.
Bottom Line:I probably have one of the nicest Demos out there and only paid $3550 after swapping out the 888 and Swinger for store credit towards the 40 and DHX. Go find one and do the same--you'll be faster, braver and happy as hell. It's so much nicer than the other bikes I've tried, it's not even fair to compare.

Strengths:Bomb proof frame, great high speed trackability, even in the soft, good turn in, SVP shock, great dropper frame
Weaknesses:Heavy, but its a DH bike. Who sends a DH bike with light springs in the fork and on the shock? Pedals are total crap, but they were on the bike for all of 20 minutes. Also, had to add a chain guard, lose the front derraliure, and the tires have to go.

Also, wish it would have come with the RC instead of the RR. RC is just a better fork.
Similar Products Used:Azonic Eliminator, SC V-10, Kona Stinky Delux
Bike Setup:Heavy springs in the 888, 550 on the SVP, shaved the seat post, lost the front Der, went to a 40 tooth blackspire ring up front.
Bottom Line:This is what a DH bike SHOULD be! Yesterday did a 14 mile DH, which other then the fact that my fat baby bike comes in at 48lbs, and doesn't go up hills longer then what you have speed for, it was pefect. When everyone else was having to deal with the 3' drops, I just pointed it over, and away we went like there was nothing there.

Jumps like a champ, and lands even better. The tires that come with it have very little side bite, so I have met the ground more then once on a wash out. Some Nokians will fix that. Love this bike, going to be a great North Star queen!

    Similar Products Used:Bullit, Heckler, Stinky
    Bike Setup:Demo9 frame, 2005 888RC, hope mono 6 ti front, M4 rear
Bottom Line:I like to mention how much I like the two different rear shock settings U can use, both are awesome and I like that there are a big difference in handling between the two settings. With the piggyback downwards in the frame U have a huck-bike taking every hit imaginable, high bottom bracket for rough freeride trails. Then switch the rear shock around and U have a DH-racer that corners like a dream. With perfect low center of gravity, just about the right bottom bracket height just to hit the ground occasionally. I’ve had the privilege to test my new bike for the season for 4 weeks in the portes du Soleil area in france/Switzerland, everything held together nicely. I still cant notice any play in the rear linkage. These trail are tough on the wheels though, and your fingers. U might consider going for the Demo8 instead if you don’t need as big a difference between huck and DH-mode and already have a sturdy 135mm rear wheel as the demo9 uses 150mm rear hub.
I am 6 foot 3 and bought the M frame and it is perfect for me. The frame is perfectly complemented by the Marzocchi 888RC 200mm fork, maybe I will buy the new lower arches for it for next season, but I honestly don’t need any.

    Buy a demo8/9, U can thank me later…

Strengths:The bike is probably one of the best bikes I have ever been on. I have ridden everything from my brothers Epic, Stumpjumper, to a Scalpel 2000 Lefty Max, and then crossing over in the DH scene with a Clark Dirt Jumper and I must this bike takes the cake on any bike that is on the Market today. The Frame is built to withstand any thing you can throw at it. There is no FLEX at any given point in the Frame, the frame set up itself flows with the dimensions of the rest of the components on the bike. The suspension, I dont think there is a comment needed, do you? The scary part about this bike, on my prior Dirt Jumper there were certain stunts that I was unable to do. With the DEMO 9, it makes stunts looks way to easy, and it makes me look as if I am a professional rider, thats how good the bike handles.
Weaknesses:ARE YOU KIDDING?? Only beef I have with Specialized is not with the bike, but can specialized specially make a RACK that will hold this beast? 99% of the clamp arms I use for my roof rack dont fit the frame of the bike, even the ones made for DH Rigs.
