Favoriate Trail:Nth Shore - Vancouver
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:2nd hand - $100
Strengths:Strong, stim, light, good looks, easy to maintain.
Weaknesses:Periodically comes loose, annoying use of Imperial bolt size (minor complaint - it is only one extra allen key to carry after all). BBs for use with this crank don't have a lot of protection against water.
Similar Products Used:Race Face
Bike Setup:243 racing steel hardtail
Bottom Line:Fantastic crank. Light and strong, perfect for freeriding where you want the best uphill and downhill performance. I think I've solved the problem of the cranks coming loose - don't put too many spacers between the BB and crank to increase spline contact.

Strengths:As all have said : stiff, strong, beautifull, alignement possibility, USA made, possibility to have spare or repair pieces easily, options on the length of the spindles and of the crankarms, they don't make any noise with both the crankarms or the bearing if you install and screw them correctly. Easy removable if you use the correct tools.
Weaknesses:For some, the weight, but not for me. The spider : it's nice, but it's hard to obtain the shims and very long bolts if you ride with 3 chainrings (Profile doesn't supply long bolts and shims to fit to theyr spider).
Similar Products Used:Cook Bros and CQP.
Bike Setup:SC Chameleon 04, Magura Phaon fork, Race Face XY seatpost, chainrings and a-headset, Hope stem, clamp and quick release, DT Swiss EX 5.1 wheels with Ritchey Z Max tires, Avid BB 7 brakes, Shim. XTR 01 gearing and brake levers, Odi grips, Ritchey WCS bars
Bottom Line:As I'm an Old School BMX rider and MTBiker, I've allways had a great satisfaction to can add BMX strong components on my MTB. I've 6 Profile cranks as well on my Old School BMX bikes, New School BMX and MTB. They are very strong and durable cranks. Profile Racing is a pioneer and still there, approximately 30 years after their debut in BMX. Their cranks are made, for the MTB case, for the rider who wants a strong crank and not searching for the ultimate lightweight bike. For myself, my riding type is XC, Hard XC, All Mountain, single trails with uphill and downhill adn little jumps here and there.

Strengths:Everything. They light (for what they are.), they stiff, they last long, they usally never break. Nothing is better.
Weaknesses:They rust. And o man they do. Chrome wears over the years. but hell, you couldnt use any other crank arm for as long. They are over priced. Euro bb's shouldnt be as much as they are but o well.
Similar Products Used:Profile racing cranks. profile ss cranks. profile dj cranks (what im using now.). Fsa cranks, primo cranks, solid cranks.
Bike Setup:Tomac mag 204 loaded to the tits. Profile euro bb. Profile dj arms. I broke my profile race arms so I upped to dj arms.
Bottom Line:Nothing is better. Ive raced bmx for 7 years of the profile racing arms. Run them on my dh mtb also. wouldnt run a bike without them they are that good. dont worry about the additional weight as its really not that much. If you all into weight and ride smooth get a ti spindle and the crankset as a whole will drop down quite a bit in weight. Just dont be doing downhillin or dirt jumpin on a ti spindle or ya will end up snappin it. us pride baby. Check their other products. Ill support these guys til I die. They that true.

Strengths:Super strong, super stiff, light enough for that type of strength. Honestly the best cranks on the market.
Weaknesses:NONE.

Bottom Line:The Best. Some reviews state fused arms to spindle; blame it on the installer. Some reviews state low bearing life; blame it on the installer. Installation is crucial to the performance of these cranks. Even good do-it-yourself mechanics should have these installed by a pro. I have 3 sets of these cranks (1 BMX, 2 mountain bikes). One set I've had for over 15 years! Original bearings! 14 years of BMX racing, trail jumping and just plain ABUSE! Still straight, still smooth, still quiet, still the best.

Price Paid: $150.00
Purchased At:ebay used and mail order
Strengths:power transfer, custom lengths, durability, low maintenance, interchangeability, longevity. Price, compared to others for 180mm length, the lifetime warranty makes this crank a give away
Weaknesses:get a euro BB with an adjustable cup. small parts expensive, M10x1.0 bolts? Q factor, needs offset spider, tough to get good Q and keep big rings off chainstay. file inside of pedal mount to taper away from chainstay for better Q, use small rings
Similar Products Used:every shimano atb/road crank since the eighties and many others with a few over the bar snaps thrown in
Bike Setup:cross country
Bottom Line:For cross country too. Last Sunday I was 200+ pounds going up hill like on a tow rope, riding partners astonished. Went from 177 (labeled 180!) adventure components nomad to 185mm profile BB and ti spindle. I knew the AC's were flexing. Finally a crank my legs can stretch out on. Weight penalty (small!) is erased by efficiency. To use this for cross country lost the inner chainring on a 5.75 spindle, 68mm euro BB. 29 inner, 42 outer, 2x9 style on a 94 bcd profile spider.

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $200.00
Purchased At:Profile Racing
Strengths:Stiff, Strong, Style,lenght options,alignment...
Weaknesses:BB Bearings don't last long. After 4 months mine where trashed. Note I do ride over 200miles per week in the all weather conditions.
Similar Products Used:Shimano and Bontragar
Bike Setup:Trek Remedy, Mavic Cross Ride wheels, Schwable Supermoto tires, 205mm profile cranks.
Bottom Line:These cranks allowed my move the chain ring closer to the frame which meant I could use the big ring up front more often (reduced chain angle). With the long arms I could use a bigger gear, climb MUCH easier, top speed is higher, RPMS are the same 100-130rpms (highest I hit was 135 during an interval session don't believe that crap about long cranks=low rpms), Can use more of my hammstring muscle thus keeping power on tap for a long period of time resulting a smoother ride.

The big test was at the Mass Blue Hill Ski area. With the wet rocks and very very loose gravel (I still had my 60mm wide Schwable slicks on)the cranks allowed me to keep a steady power and torque out put so the tire stayed in contact with the ground, then there the Penn National Park where is was technical and dusty. Again the the cranks allowed me increase the torque quickly with out having shift up or down too much. Need to get over a big rock just push or pull on the pedal a little harder and the big just road over it.

This is the bomb. Next I am going for some 230's!!!!!

See ya, actually you;ll see me blasting pass you:)

Strengths:Very stiff and strong. Adjustable chainline. All standard crank lengths available - even custom lengths. Allows choice of 110/74 and 94/58 spiders or use of single BMX chainwheel. Same basic design for 25+ years - individual replacement parts are widely available. Cro-Mo arms will put up with untold levels of punishment -- they'll laugh off a mishap, like a loose pedal, that would kill an aluminum arm in a matter of seconds.
Weaknesses:The BB must be shimmed properly for decent service life of the bearings. The provided spacers don't account for small manufacturing tolerances of mass produced BB shells. Profile needs to provide an assortment of steel shims to accomodate such differences. Two spacers, one for 68mm, and one for 73mm shells just doesn't cut it.
Luckily, I have access to a machine shop, and I was able to fabricate perfect length spacers for my setup. Almost five years have passed and I'm still on my original set of bearings.
Similar Products Used:Shimano: XTR, Deore XT, Deore II, Deore LX, STX, Exage. Suntour: XC Pro microdrive, XC Expert microdrive
Various: Race Face, Ritchey, Sugino.
Bike Setup:I've got Profiles installed on my geared hardtail, my single speed, and I'm seriously contemplating installing a set on my road bike. Any future bikes I own will get a set as well.
Bottom Line:Weight and BB setup issues aside, they're one of the best cranks available.

The weight issue is a little overblown. Here's an example:

XTR M900 arms,175mm: 532g
UN-72 BB 68x107: 252g
Total-----------> 784g

Profile CR-MO arms,175mm:560g
BB with Ti spindle: 311g
110/74 Spider: 90g
Total-----------> 961g

177 grams difference. A full 16oz water bottle weighs about 543 grams. My sleek Ti hardtail that weighed 22 lbs even with standard cranks now weighs 22.4 lbs with the profiles installed. *BFD*
Chainring/mount bolt weight is not included since they'd be installed regardless of cranks used. Is 177 grams extra weight worth it for a lifetime of worry free performance? I think so.

Strengths:Strong as hell. Not the lightest but you have to sacrifice one thing for another.
Weaknesses:Bearings wear out eventually.
Similar Products Used:Cheap square spindle aluminum cranks that came on my Fuji.
Bike Setup:BMX:King headset and hubs. Shimano HG-53 chain and Shimano-DX Brakes. Standard 125R frame. Bombshell Tribal Carbon forks. Crupi stem and S&M Slam Bars. ODI Lock on Grips. Profile Cranks and Chainring.
MTB: Fuji Discovery 3 in pieces after a broken swingarm. SRAM x.7 Derailleurs and trigger shifters. Soon to buy Profile MTB Cranks and BB through my team since we are sponsored. Shimano HG-53 chain. Needs new grips. Some sort of straight handlebar. Cromo. SRAM Powerglide II cassette 8spd soon to be the same one in 9 speed. Shimano Deore Disc Wheelset from Pricepoint. Cheap suspension....
Bottom Line:I haven't ordered my MTB cranks yet. I am going off my Profiles. I race nationally, 5th in my Midwest region in 13 Expert. Anyways, my BMX cranks are a godsend. At 200 lbs, it is easy to destroy cheap cranks. I rounded off a set of Black Widow Alum arms. Now I wil never turn back. Bearings? Well, I haven't replaced mine in a long time but they are beginning to click a little bit. No bike product is invincible because there is always someone out there who rides harder than you. I wil come back in a few weeks with a report on the MTB set. I will also be ordering a new cassette and brake levers.

Favoriate Trail:Black Hill
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Crank arms and spindle are built like a tank; weight says it all. Chain ring and guard is a piece of art.
Weaknesses:The bearings are the weakest out there, so they do need replacing every now and then, so if any signs of crank seizeures, get em replaced or you'll dammage the bottom bracket with it.
The chain ring and guard is a piece of art, because its aluminium its going to wear out depending how much riding you do, and its going to be a really costly replacement.
Bike Setup:Hard tail
Bottom Line:The crank arms will out last your life, but the bearings and Profile chain ring won't out last your tires, maybe due to poor design so they do need a bit of carefull attention especially if conditions are wet and muddy.
Therefore if you like to tinker like a mechanic and ride like a maniac with a fat wallet - you decide.

Cranks this long must be made accurately or else serious problems will result. The profile racing cranks are made with outstanding accuracy and alignment.
Once installed, they spin true and don't require any maintenance or adjustments. You must know what you are doing when it comes to installation and removal. They actually feel lighter than other cranks because of the stiffness and increased power. Strongly recommended.

Bottom Line:Good Lord. This little review page has been busy. All right, allow me to shatter your poorly conceived assumptions:

1) I am not a product "groupie," nor do I work for the company. I bought both sets of these cranks (SS, chromoly axle) through my own coin and I probably ride harder than most users here do (this lines up with my personal observations, anyway). They have remained intact, sans one shot bottombracket. Thus, they get a five-star review from me. This is not brain surgery.

2) Sure, cranks are not indestructible (see item #1, sentence #3). I find it highly unlikely that these cranks would break on a "demo," as was stated in the original post by "Broke." Unless they were installed improperly, which is possible. If "Broke" is the breed of tool that I take him to be.

3) Hmm. So "Broke" is really two people? Very believable (insert caustic *smirk*). Anyway if that really was the case (which I doubt) that implies that "Broke" #1 really did break a Profile crankset on a demo ride (see item #2, sentence #2-3). And why did "Broke" #2 defend "Broke" #1 and answer for him? And don't give me the e-mail excuse. The space for e-mail addresses on the review sheet is optional. The same user (er, loser) could post twice and not leave an e-mail address.

4) "You probably spend more time online then riding."
I almost had to wipe beer spray off the screen after reading this naive line of reasoning. I ride about 20-30 miles a week, most of these miles being urban freeriding and commuting. I spend only about 10 hours a week online for personal use, if that. If you really did have personal knowledge of me, you'd know that I don't suffer fools (or liars) like "Broke" gladly.

5) "I only come to get a general idea of what is being said about it, but I don't take anything personally or to heart."
Right. So do I (see item #1). I also come here to deposit my $.02 on the product, and try to be as impartial as I can while considering various factors in my review (weight, riding style et al). I'm sure quite a few reviews on this site are fabricated but I am attacking one and only one review (Broke's) which struck me as overt lying. Several of my friends have spec'd Profiles on their bikes, as have I. I have yet to see any of theirs or mine break at the crankarm, even through a fair helping of reckless abuse. So when a reviewer comes along claiming that he broke a set on a "demo," I am inclined to think that he is, well, full of it (see item #4, last line). And it is my Constitutional right to say so on this page.

That all being said I close the books on this issue.

Go forth and get your bike dirty.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $250.00
Strengths:Fairly strong, not much adjustment needed after setup, stiff.
Weaknesses:None to this point, but I haven't been able to ride with these cranks as hard as I would like.
Similar Products Used:Truvativ and Shimano
Bike Setup:RM7, with monster's, XT groupie, etc...
Bottom Line:This crank is decent. I feel it would hold up as well, or better than any cranks out there. But I do not worship any product and know that even these cranks could break or fail. I do have a comment to this Loki guy though. Do you own the company? I agree with broke (which ever one) about one thing, don't take anything to heart. It seems like the cranks are your girl and broke is dissing her, it's a stupid crank.

Purchased At: the shop i work at
Strengths:they are light wieght
Weaknesses:one arm bent into my chainstay and two spindles twisted
Similar Products Used:solid cranks, schwinn XS cranks, profile SS cranks
Bike Setup:T1 frame, 36 hole wheels, T1 bars, S&M fork and stem, cassette hub, FBM 36t sprocket with bolt on guard.
Bottom Line:i ride bmx and mtb. ive had two pairs of profiles and ive twisted two spindles and bent the left crankarm slightly and the right one into my chainstay. the bottom line is that profile cranks arent what their cracked up to be. they might be strong for all those "hardcore" mtb guys but thats with suspension. for bmx they suck ass unless you race. the only reason i use them is because they are so damn light compared to my previous pair of solid cranks that wieghed more than 5 pounds. so basically im trying to say profile cranks are crap and thats the end of it.

Strengths:Strong, durablity, looks, having Loki come here multiple times!
Weaknesses:None Really
Similar Products Used:Xtr, raceface....
Bike Setup:24
Bottom Line:The bottom line is this. Good cranks, like all products out there there is good and bad, in this case you see far more good then bad.
What is really funny though, is that Loki is on here complaining about the first review by "broke", and then calling the second review by "broke" back pedaling.
Well Loki, I don't know who the first "broke" is, he is the one who left an email address, but the second "broke" was a different person. Please loser, they are good cranks. You probably spend more time online then riding. If you think the original guy who posted the first review would actually come back and review again, he would of probably said that stuff that I said in the first place.
Shows how easy it is to put words in others mouths. I do agree with one thing, that "some" people don't have the product that they review, that is why I only come to get a general idea of what is being said about it, but I don't take anything personally or to heart <-- advice for Loki.
